This month's Art Journaling challenge is all about Family - By Heart or by Blood.
Family is about connection. It's about feeling like we belong somewhere and with someone. Whether it's our blood relatives, close friends, or coworkers, the people we consider family are the ones who make us feel seen, heard, and valued. They are the ones who make us feel like we are part of something bigger than ourselves, and for that, we are forever grateful.
Week two- Family reflections
For this weeks’ Art journal challenge I want you to reflect on the impact that your family has had on your life, both positive and negative. Write about the lessons you have learned from your family, or create a mixed media piece that explores the complexity of your family relationships.
Family is an essential part of our lives. It is where we learn our first words, take our first steps, and develop our values and beliefs. Our families are the people who shape us into the individuals we become, and they have a profound impact on our lives. The relationships we form with our families are complex and multi-faceted, with both positive and negative aspects. In this art journal challenge, you will explore the concept of family reflections, and reflect on the impact that your family has had on your live.
The influence of family on our lives is undeniable. From a very young age, we begin to learn from our families. Our parents or guardians teach us about the world around us, and we learn to navigate life based on their guidance. As we grow older, we begin to form our own opinions and beliefs, but our families continue to be a significant influence on our lives.
Positive aspects of family relationships include the love and support we receive from our families. Our families are often our biggest cheerleaders, providing encouragement and support during difficult times. They celebrate our successes with us and offer comfort and guidance when we face challenges. They teach us important life skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, which we carry with us throughout our lives.
However, family relationships can also have negative aspects. Family conflicts and disagreements can cause stress and tension within the family unit. For example, parents may have different ideas about how to raise their children, leading to arguments and discord. Sibling rivalry and jealousy can also cause problems within families, creating a sense of competition and animosity between siblings. Additionally, family members may struggle with mental health issues, substance abuse, or other challenges that can impact the family as a whole.
Despite these challenges, our families also offer valuable lessons that help us grow as individuals. We learn about the importance of forgiveness, empathy, and compassion. We learn to be patient and understanding with others, even when we disagree with them. We learn that every individual has their own unique strengths and weaknesses, and that we must accept and appreciate each other for who we are.

Remember, for the art journaling challenges you can create any style of page. You get to decide what art journaling means to you. It can be a traditionally artsy page, clean and simple, pocket style, junk journal, or something else. That is up to you.
EXPLORE
Because this is an art journal challenge, we want to encourage you to explore using more artsy elements on your pages. For the month of May, we'd like you to try using digital stamps on your pages. Most art journaling kits have stamps included. I'm sure you have kits that have stamps in them. It's not required but you can earn one extra entry this month for using one or more digital stamps on at least one of your pages. (The digital stamps must be clearly visible, not hidden under a cluster or buried under a photo.)
Using blending techniques, you can make a really fun background to your memories!
Everyone who participates in any of this month's challenges will be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift certificate to Oscraps. You can receive up to four entries into this month's drawing.
I can't wait to see what you have to share about FAMILY.
Challenge Rules:
You have until 11:59 p.m. ET on May 31st to complete your pages for this challenge.
