Tip: Creating a new blank canvas to work on

Scrappie IreneTips & Techniques

For the starters in digital scrapbooking it can be difficult to find out how to start a blank canvas to work on. To be honest, when I started with digital scrapbooking I often worked on a paper and I sometimes forgot to rename it when I was saving my layout. Oops, I overwrote my paper!

So since then I always start with a blank canvas to work on.

Go to File, New, Blank File.

You can work on the size you want, but I prefer to create 12″ x 12″ photo books, so I work with the standard digital scrapbooking size. I have my settings on pixels and 12″ is 3600 pixels. So I fill in 3600 pixels at Width and also 3600 pixels at Height. Make sure you set your resolution at 300 dpi (dots per inch).

All digital papers in kits are this size. So if you drag your paper to this blank canvas it should fit.

When I’m creating for a photobook, I prefer to create the left and right side in one file so photos and elements run smoothly from one page to the other. For a double page layout I only change the Width in 7200 pixels.

If you work on another size layout, just double the Width and you have your double blank canvas to work on!
