I have been using this thing called a Fitbit and it's interesting to see my sleep patterns. Which are mostly a lot of red (awake) strips amid the blue (sleep). Last night, I had such a headache. We went hiking and caching yesterday afternoon/evening and I think my allergies went nuts. So I went to bed fairly early.

I couldn't believe my sleep this morning. SOLID BLUE from 10:00 - 2:30. Got up and went to the bathroom and then SOLID BLUE until 5:50 when the alarm went off. Simply amazing!!

Well, in Clara's defense, I don't normally take my phone in the bedroom for just this reason and it was on vibrate, so if I hadn't been getting ready to wake up anyway, i never would have heard it go off. It was just an hour before my alarm would have gone off anyway :)

I really just felt like teasing her :)

Phyllis- def. feel that way, prob fibro-wise as well. You should have seen me lying on the floor looking up at the bed thinking WTH just happened here? I was laughing. Gary roared when I told him and when I told my kids, I was laughing at myself so hard I could barely get it out. They think I am a dork anyway.

Sara, that sounds really neat, but I think it would scare me to see my fitful nights' sleep patterens in red and blue.

Have any of you been tested for sleep apnea? My brother did a sleep study and stopped breathing like 40+ times in one nights "sleep." He is supposed to use a breathing machine at night, which he did all of the time before he got married, but now he only uses it on occasion.
Just wondering, since I know it helped him sleep more deeply.

Chris, i actually am going to be in a study at the U. of Pittsburgh this spring for people who have trouble sleeping. i signed up because it's going to use Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy, which is something that fascinates me. CBT is the most Amazing Thing! i think if there's anything else going on with me, they will pick it up.

Phylis...they would throw me out....there are no cures for me! :pound:

I feel like A$$ today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was up around 4...and I tried to get on the computer but just couldn't concentrate and I have been like that all day!!! and now I ache all over.

I had a Dr's appt this morning...I drug myself in there...he WILL NOT give me anything for all my hormonal issues...I am really sick of this crap!! It's time to find a new Dr....he gave me ambien though...he said it was vital that I sleep...I would feel better...WELL DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNEW THAT!!! But sleeping aids are not what I want....if you fix my freaking insides, then the sleep will come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAMMIT!!!! He didn't like my attitude with him....he did add Welbutrin to my daily dose of Lexapro too...so he says that will help with my energy levels...AGAIN...IF YOU FIX MY INSIDES, I WILL SLEEP, THEN I WILL HAVE ENERGY!!! WTF??? I am so aggitated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SLEEP IS IMPORTANT!! YES....BUT THERE ARE REASONS WHY I AM NOT SLEEPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh...I did ask him too about my horrid irritability...which is most likely from the lack of sleep as well....and I told him that DH told me to get something for my "bitchyness"....the Dr said "well maybe he is just an asshole"....that made me laugh!! I might have been offended if it hadn't pissed me off that DH said that when I left for the appt.

hahha!! Funny doctor!

Nana- do you take B vitamins? I take a Super B complex and B-12 sub-lingual tablets as needed for an extra kick. The super B's -- when taken regularly- are supposed to help mood. I can't swear that it works completely, but I feel a difference when I miss a few days.

Phyllis-- please share any tips that you learn! How cool to be able to do that study!!!

Ohhh Linda, I think that maybe you should find a female dr. who has a little more sympathy for what you are going through. I know my dr. does not want me on hormone replacement, because after so many years you just have to go off of it and then the whole cycle repeats and you have hot flashes in your seventies instead of your fifties or sixties. Yikes, don't think I could handle that again!!! Hope you get some rest sweetie, but it sounds like you are on too many meds already!!

i'm with Trudy!! Nana, find a GIRL doctor!! no one understands this menopause crap like a woman. i wish i could get everyone in with my gynie. she's amazing. and before she operates on you, she says: "would you like us to say a prayer?" honestly. the best.

i haven't taken hormones, but i've been really lucky. never had hot flashes. i think with all the gynie surgery i had in my late 20s, i just gradually went through menopause over the last 30 years....

Nana, the only thing good about the Ambien is that it will likely break the cycle you're on with the not sleeping. if you take it for a few nights, then that might get you on track again. but then WHO would i talk to in the middle of the night!!!????? :scared:

Chris - My dad and brother use the apnea machines. My dad said he has never slept better in the 60+ years of his life.

Nana - Please be careful with Welbutrin. I have never know ANYONE to have a good experience with it.

And yes...find a girl doctor!!!

Today's my turn to be up in the middle of the night - well, sort of, woke at 5.15, alarm not due to go off till 6.45. Oh well.

My mother had a terrible experience with her male doctor about the menopause; he lectured her about how women today don't take enough exercise and all ones woes could be cured if women just took the time to exercise a little. He told her to borrow someone's dog and go out for a "nice walk" - pretty ironic given that my mum ran a horse riding stable with over 40 horses, as hard physical exercise as anyone half her age would want to be taking, and besides, we had 6 dogs at the time! The stupid doctor hadn't even bothered to read her notes before passing judgement.

Definitely time for a new doctor.

Well........................here I am 3:11 am

So this week I have been so out of it....the new meds have really kicked my butt!! But last night I seemed to be feeling a bit more normal...for a week now I have been sleeping really well, except for the wrong hours...falling asleep at 8:30 and then up at 4 am....but last night I didn't got to bed until 10, but Jaiden woke up an hour ago, and...................well...............here I am.

Hopefully I will get back to normal (daytime)...I have felt like a big slug for a week now...just so sleepy..taking two hour naps every day....then feel icky...the house is a wreck!! If all this doesn't settle down, I will stop the meds in a few days and call the dr....I am thinking 10 days to two weeks...LONG ENOUGH!!

Nana, i was up at 4:15. just checking in here now. your week sounds not too great. i hope this all settles down for you. remember not to stop those kinds of meds all at once. do it gradually, if you're going to do it. good luck. and (((hugs))

Laurie!! what are YOU doing here so early?:scared: hopefully you're not catching this "middle of the night" bug....

well, i actually GOT my 6 hours, almost. 10:30-4:15. good enough.

lOve the O!
phylis- my light alarm begins its lighting phase at 450- then I'm up with coffee on the computer, then exercise, shower and ready for work- try to be out the door by 8am or starting in two weeks on Tu,We out by 730 so I can leave work at 3 on fridays- since they won't give me the day off-I am at least getting off earlier!

clarabear

always chatty at the O!!
It's 545 here. I need to start going to bed earlier. 6 hours a night is not doing it for me.

Nana - that sucks. I know some of those meds you have to build up in your system but that's too much. Derek loves ambien but it doesn't work for everybody and can cause other issues. But the concept is awesome. Good luck. Want some coffee? 3.5 hours isn't too far to drive, is it? Okay maybe you'd better hit up a Starbucks.

4 am for me, so I am better off than most of you! I had another nightmare, and I was running (also a very scary thought hehe) in it and when I woke myself up, I was so pumped up I couldn't get back to sleep. Too bad that running in dreams doesn't count as exercise.... :(

Nana- what meds are you on again? ITA- after 2 weeks if you are still that tired, I would see if you could get a different rx or a lower dose. Some people can be very chemically sensitive and the traditional dose is way too much.

Chris, i think my dream woke me up, too, out of frustration. i was dreaming that i was trying to find an orientation meeting at the University of Pittsburgh, and i was trying to remember in the dream whether it was because i was admitted to medical school there. no one could tell me where anything was, and i didn't have any information at all.

UGH!! I get those dreams all of the time-- usually i can't find the room for my final exams, or its the first day of school and I don't have a schedule.
So frustrating, right?
