Oscraps

It was 13 years ago today.......

that I stopped working to have my first baby. I kind of knew I wouldn't go back as frankly I was hating my job and it simply didn't pay well enough to cover the cost of nursery/nanny fees. Another baby followed, then another. Then scrapbooking took over my life :)hurt: I think we can all relate to this one!!).

But today, 13 yrs to the date, I started paid employment again. OMGoodness, was I scared and nervous! I'm working for my friend's company selling kitchens, something I know absolutely nothing about! But I do like to cook and I know what feels like it works or not in my own kitchen. I'm also a damn fine adminstrator - or rather, I was, 13 yrs ago!

Anyway, surfice to say, I survived my first day, didn't make too many blunders - and only had to leave 15 mins early to collect a sick child from school!!! Thank goodness my boss has kids at the same school and totally gets that side of family life.

So, my DH is not going to be able to retire anytime soon, but it feels good, I think, to have stepped back onto the ladder - albeit very little steps at a time!!

Yay me!!

always chatty at the O!!
I have always thought I loved being a working mom...but lately it has taken it's toll on me. Are you working full time or part time? I think you would be excellent at selling kitchens for the exact reason you mentioned...you know how to use one. It is exciting to be working and I hope you enjoy the job. Crazy that it would be 13 years to the day. :)

Congrats on your new job, Selena!

Hhmmmm, selling new kitchens, eh?!?!?! Mine's looking pretty dated (it's the original from when the house was built 25yrs ago!) ... wonder if I could persuade DH it's time for an upgrade

Seriously though, congrats on [re]joining the rat-race!

Thank you everyone.

And yes, Val, you're right - I haven't been able to get back in here - I've been run off my feet :hurt:

Clearly I'm going to have to improve my time management skills because I've only been at it for 3 part time days and already I've failed to do any washing, fed my kids with whatever scraps I've found in the freezer (which is now empty :tape:) and the ironing pile is taking over my bedroom. How do women manage this whole working and house thing?!

And I should now be working not playing, so I'd better go!

It will be hard going back to work initially especially after a 13 hiatus as SAHM but you will grow into that working role slowly. I want to go back full time too (working part time at the moment) but there's gonna be major changes coming my way so a full time is out of the question!
Congrats on finding a job!
