Wow. This is amazing. Just today I was thinking how every one of my page projects is like a thousand piece puzzle but luckily maybe only 500 pieces because the card ;) table that is my memory is small and shrinking these days.
It was just like with any other wildflowers. We couldn't resist stopping and looking them over. But we're even more jealous of the golden hours on the refuges than on jeep roads because we don't want to miss the wildlife we think is ahead. On Jeep roads, wildlife encounters are always by chance.
It was so dark we couldn't possibly see what it was. The camera sees better than we do, amazing on the color especially, post processing software did wonders. It was still dark.
At first the blue beak of the ruddy duck struck us as clownish. It took a while for us to get used to seeing him and his female partner. The coots could get aggressive, but ruddy ducks were more likely to enjoy splashing. They also seemed to constantly bob their heads to show off for the females.
