It was dark when we got there and we thought we'd be able to hike the path along the river to a nice position for sunrise. But the trail was closed to protect the endangered willow flycatcher. I looked up and saw the bird high in the tree. We weren't sure but I thought eagle when I saw it fly.
This is gorgeous and reminds me of visits to a hotel here in Glenwood Springs Colorado that used to be only accessible to the very wealthy. It was so luxurious like your flowers suggest, and they came in carriages over dangerous rocky dirt roads 160 miles from Denver. Love your work.
On our last day, we were leaving and almost off the refuge, happy with having just enjoyed a little bird singing his heart out for us. You looked to the south and saw something white. We were delighted to add in a hike to get closer to the avocets, which we'd figured just weren't there at that point
Thanks. Yay for your road trip. We'll get to the Bosque Nov-Dec. but last time only saw cranes, not snow geese. Might be a couple of trips, but hey it's all good. ;)
We allowed extra time Wednesday to get to Bluff Overlook by sunrise. Views were scenic, but we only saw one duck a thousand feet below us on the river. Instead of risking a hike where we might not see wildlife, we drove back to the main Alamosa NWR and retraced the auto tour.
