It was another beautiful morning on the Alamosa NWR. Not many birds but who could complain when we saw both a golden eagle and a river otter. There were dark brown cattails, showy milkweeds and evening primroses. It was the kind of day that made me wish we could visit a lot more often.
Medano Pass was the most fun Jeep trip ever for us. It was a perfect day and you played in most of the creek fords. 18 of them. Remember how you drove through the fords really fast to make big splashes and the water pressure bent the front license plate out at a 90-degree angle.
Gorgeous peaceful photo. We saw 3 fawns w 2 does today, but they weren't resting peacefully in the shade. We never see that. ;) Love the twigs, heart and purple flower.
The check engine light came on right after we got our coffee before we hit the interstate for our July trip to Alamosa. Prestige put us at the front of the line and fixed the misfire, but we had to kill several hours in Longmont as the day heated up. Again, our lifetime warranty made our life good.
Before sunrise we were on the little walk by some ponds. It felt so good to be out on the refuge again and nobody else there. Lots of flowers and we needed mosquito repellent. Not as many birds as in June, and reeds were much taller. Our best surprises were four elk dudes and three baby avocets.
