On our last visit to MVNWR this trip, the sunrise was cloudless. We saw a few night herons in the distance and maybe a heron or the single sandhill crane, but there were almost no birds in long stretches of the waterway. The air was filled with the sounds of small birds, all hidden in the tall reeds.
