Kingfisher A blue flash and a whistling call: this is how a kingfisher often announces itself.
Unmistakably colored blue and orange. Slightly plump build with a short tail and a large head and beak. White throat and side neck. Wings and crown greenish blue with a clear blue back and rump. Often sits upright on a low-hanging branch above the water, looking for fish. Flies loudly over the water and is then clearly visible. Females have an orange-red beak base, the male is black.
Preferably fish but also water insects such as dragonfly larvae. Fish are taken to the seat and hit against a branch before being swallowed. Hunts from a seat post and also prays regularly. Dives into the water to get its prey.

Last week i made these pictures.

thanks for looking !
Wonderful photos and great page arrangement, even with the out of bounds. Love it! In N. America we have a different but similar kingfisher - they are super.

Wow! Wonderful photos and great information about this beautiful little bird. I'm thinking (dreaming) of those lovely moments of glimpses and the satisfaction at the very instant of each camera click.
