you can remember from growing up???? If you haven't seen Helen's gem of a page in the gallery yet then do yourself a favour and go now!!!!

https://ozone.oscraps.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=178623

Then come back and tell us what your memories are of growing up, whether it be the 60', the 70', the 80' or the 90'.

- I can remember the 60' and the music of the time, Hendrix, Janis Joplin and my fave The Beatles!!! when I was in 6th grade.
- I only had a tranistor radio which only took batteries and the radio stations would stop broadcasting at 12.00pm :(
- Disco's were only just coming into vogue but I was far too young to go and I dreamt of being a Go-Go dancer!! bwahahahhaa!!!
- I remember 'Going Steady' with my first boyfriend and going to dances with him
- The fave saying was 'Cool man'
- Loved going to the beach and I was a surfie chick through and through, tall, skinny, suntanned brown and long blonde hair
- After I left home and started work I used to 'hang out' with a surfie bunch we would all go out to the beach in someone's panel van, how scary, no seatbelts back then and there would be sometimes like 10 people in the back!!!!!
- All the surfboards would be piled on top and we would just drive up and down the highway, normally down on the South Coast looking for 'THE waves'
- And of course during those days all we listened to Beach Boys non stop, *sigh* I still love listening to "Little Surfer Girl" :)
- Dreamt of going to Hawaii and owning my own surfboard!!! bwahahaha!!

oh dear I could go on but I won't bore you any longer ......... so come on, what are some of YOUR memories???? TELL ME!!!!!

LOL Ona... this is great! I did see Helen's page, its fabulous!!
I remember watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show, Hula Hoops, Chinese Skipping, Hop Scotch and watching my sister at the Maypole Dance,(it got fazed out soon after) We all sat in front of the TV to watch Bonanza every Sunday and then The Wonderful World of Walt Disney. We spent everyday...all day, in the summer, at the beach and lived in the water. Evenings were spent playing Kick the Can and every kid in the neighborhood played. We had community picnics and sack races. It was a simpler time and I miss it very much! Wow what great memories!

oh Trudy!!! we used to sit and watch Disneyland every Sunday as well!!!! and Bonanza........oh I used to just LOVE Little Joe!!!!! we used to watch that on a Saturday night!! and another Sat. night show was Don Ameche hosting a circus show each week!! LOL!!! my brother and I used to love that show so much!!!!

they were simpler times weren't they!! and yes, I truly miss them as well!! LOL!

I remember Beatle bubble gum cards. All the other girls liked Paul or John...so I took Ringo! And Kick the Can...and riding our bikes with banana seats and highwater handle bars...and pretending that they were horses while we played Flicka.

Always watched Bonanza...watched Leave It to Beaver and Rifleman re-runs! Got 2 pennies for each glass pop bottle that we returned. And if you returned 3 pop bottles, you could buy a nickle candy bar.

I'll be back with more.

i love this post and it is fun reading your posts but my memories are a bit different...

my dad loved records so we were slow moving into the world of CDs. he even had an 8track and a reel to reel and those were mostly his era of stuff but it had us listening to music all the time. i loved bruce springsteen, joan jett and my first record was jefferson starship-we built this city. then i eventually moved on to new kids on the block (my very first concert) and knew all the words to ice ice baby, hammer time, and those milli vanilli songs they didn't actually sing.

when i was little i loved to watch little house on the prarie and then punky brewster. then i moved on to TGIF and watched full house, family matters and step by step. i slightly remember the where's the beef commercials and still always think of mcdonalds when i hear that one beetoven song. at least i think it is beetoven...you know the commercial with the girl playing in the piano recital. i also loved the cosby show, roseanne, and fresh prince.

as a kid we rode our bikes in the street and would walk to the pool. we played oregon trail on the computers at school and used a dos based system and had never heard of windows...i remember at one point we had a computer that had programs on a tape deck. i don't remember ever not having a computer although i know we didn't always have one. i used word perfect to do homework reports and we had a dot matrix printer. one summer my sister and i pooled all of our money and bought the first nintendo system and played super mario brothers and qbert and we even had a power pad.

i wasn't quite done...i almost forgot about the hours and hours we listened to the thriller tape and madonna's first like a virgin album. i still call cd's albums.

i remember the day the spaceship blew up...i was in 4th grade. we watched it in school. in highschool i wanted to "go out" with whichever boy of the moment and would freak out if my mom asked where we were going out to and then would really freak out when she would use terms like going steady, going with, an item, or bo. being from washington, home of grunge, we wore lots of torn oversized jeans, flannel shirts, and doc martens. everyone cried the day kurt cobain died. we watched the oj simpson trial at school on the tv's that were now in every classroom instead of having to be checked out before.

wow...i could go on and on but i had better not. i didn't realize how much there was to remember from the mid 80s to mid 90s. that is the timeframe i grew up in.

OH thanks my great friend Ona!

It was such a hoot to do that LO!

Love reading about everyone's memories thus far!

That LO rocks- I am going to have to think a bit....

Let's see, I am an 80's girl....

  • Aqua Net and a hair dryer to get your hair as big as possible
  • melting your Maybelline eyeliner to get it as dark as possible
  • bandannas
  • Hair bands! (Yay bon jovi!!)
  • Madonna bracelets, and lots of lace
  • "cigarette" jeans (super skinny and stretchy)
  • Reagan and the Pope being shot at
But some memories of being little in the 70"s

  • Bikes with banana seats and baskets
  • wearing tube socks with shorts

OK, here's some of the things I remember fondly, mainly from the 80's ...

Watching Top Of The Pops on a Thursday night
Dallas / Dynasty
Shoulder pads!
Mobile phones the size of a briefcase
Walkman personal stereos
Watching Fame and being convinced that I could do that too (NOT!!!!!)
Neon coloured socks / gloves ... you were extra "hip" if you wore different colours on the left / right foot / hand!!!
Lace gloves ... a la Madonna style
BIG hair!!! But also I remember slicking my hair straight back off my face into a tight pony tail, like the models on the Addicted To Love video.
TV only had 4 channels and transmission ended at around 11pm each night (and the national anth3m used to be played at the end!)

I also remember being sick at home, missing school and watching the coverage of President Kennedy being shot. I used to iron my hair so it was perfectly straight, because I used to have a natural wave in it. I also remember my brothers would use Brylcream on their hair and us girls would use dippity doo. Yuk! I'm sure if I think harder I can remember even more.

So WHO is brave enough to post us a pic from these days??? I am going to dig out something....Will be back later!!

This is funny, Clara, you must be of my age! :)
I remember my dad buying one of the first computers. I was 9 I think. What a happening that was! It was a Commodore, DOS based and with a tape Deck and my dad taught us to write or own little games in DOS, like hangman, and another where we could make our own little multiple choice quizes!
I still know some of the DOS basics and I'm thankful for that!

And I loved Punky Brewster too! :) I also was a big fan of Who's the Boss.

And Milli Vanilli was my first tape!!! How big was my dissapointment when I found out it wasn't actually them singing!!

I also remember, when I was 11, Belgium won the Eurovision Song festival for the first time ever. Sandra Kim, who won it, was only 14 and got into the festival by saying she was 16 as that was the minimum age for participation. It was a French song and I didn't understand a word of it, but still I 'sang' the whole song by imitating the sounds, lol.

I remember the arrival of the remote control for the TV and of CD's.
I used to have an LP of Madonna's Like a Prayer I listened to all the time.
I remember making a high forelock in my hair with lots of hairspray (what were we thinking?!)
I remember the falling of the Wall in Berlin, and that it was on tv and my dad said to look very carefully as this was history written in front of my eyes.

ETA: another one I remember:
When I was 17, my bf and I went to an amusement park in France. When we drove back home on the highway, our car was stopped by the police and we had to give priority to a whole procession of big, black cars which were chaperoned by lots and lots of police officers on motor cycles. They all drove right in front of us. Later we heard our king had died in his resort in Spain and his body was transferred back to Belgium. At the time we witnessed this, that was not known to the public yet.

How fun to look back at all that!

I've been tying to hunt down photos from my youth, but I honestly can't find them! I thought I knew where they were, but no luck ... I'll keep hunting though (I know I definitely don't have any with me wearing neon though ... shame, eh? LOL)

Ok, I couldn't resist. I found some photos of little me as well :)

This is one when I was about 8 months. It's amazing how much my 2 children look like me as a baby.
Scannen0006.jpg

Next one is of me and my cousins and brother on my first communion. What was my mom thinking when she bought that hat?! The goofy one is my brother btw :)
Scannen0002.jpg

Next one is a school portrait, I was about 8 I think. It shows my favorite dress of that time, I wanted to wear it ALL the time. And my mom had me wear my hair like that for my entire childhood, I'm still traumatized by that!
Scannen0003.jpg

And one of my little brother and me on Christmas. Love the curtains we had then! :)
Scannen0011.jpg

OMGosh Kim ... those photos are just perfect! Really representative of the times (late 1970's right?), especially those curtains!!!

Linda! You were soooooo cute! (Still gorgeous- but adorable then!)

Kim, I still have not been able to find out why your images are blocked. Later on today, I will use IE- I know I can see them then.

Anyone know how to check for blocked images in FF? I know I have blockes some ad sites- but I would have never blocked Kim!

My mother is the pits with pictures, so i don't know if I have any here from me as a kid. Teen/college age- I should have them inthe attic.

OMG- that reminds me! I had a dream last night that I was taking pictures with a "film" camera!!!!! I remember how carefully I was lining up the shot because each shot counted. Isn't that one of the best things about digital cameras, that you can take as many as you can fit on your card and just delete the bad ones? :)
