Summer Shows

always chatty at the O!!
So, now that we have had all of our season finales...whatever will we watch? What new summer shows do you have on your radar or older summer shows? I plan on watching Drop Dead Diva, but aside from that I have no clue. I need some suggestions. I've seen So You Think You Can Dance mentioned and I think I may need to check that one out.

Wow, never heard of any of this stuff! Maybe I need to step away from the computer! ha ha!

Well, not completely true...I saw a preview at the movies, when we went to see Dark Shadows, for the Hatfields and Mccoys...it looked interesting, and I love Kevin Costner, but it look pretty violent. I can sometimes do violence but hubby very against it. I used to have to watch the Sopranos when we was not around ;-)

I am enjoying Mad Men, even though it did not think it was that great a show for the first 4 seasons, but kept watching it, trying to find whatever the rest of the world was seeing.

I love America's Got Talent. It's got so many feel good stories...and Howard Stern is much better than Piers!

We love Psych, but I think that went on hiatus until the fall...it usually was in the summer. Burn Notice has got to come back soon right????

I have a ton of So You Think You Can Dance to catch up on and several episodes of Glee and Desperate Housewives.

I plan on reading a lot too. :) You know me...

Warehouse 13 returns on July 23!!

does anyone else wish that the TV seasons would go back to the UNDERSTANDABLE schedules of yesteryear? like new shows at the beginning of Sept., re-runs during Christmas, the season continues in Jan., the summer reruns. i NEVER know when anything is starting or ending these days.

In the UK our TV is notoriously terrible during the summer weeks, with no new series starting and re-runs of old stuff filling the airwaves. I vividly remember really crappy TV during the 6 wks of the summer holiday and things haven't really changed, although my kids would dearly love to spend afternoons watching just about anything. As we do not have any pay TV, the kids are stuck with free channels only - guaranteed re-runs!

Selena - That's usually been the case here too. Except in the last several years, people started testing out shows in the summer. USA Network was really a leader in that. That's how shows like Burn Notice and Psych got going. I remember that Survivor started in the summer too. And that was forever ago. But it was always a testing period for a show to see if people were interested in it. If they were, it got moved to the fall.

And the reality shows started to have a season in the summer. Then they started to have some popular shows have summer seasons with good viewership. Now I think with all of the DVR capabilities our seasons have gotten a whole lot more crazy. Because people watch whenever they want anyway!

yeah, the only way I can keep up with the seasons is because my DVR is set to automatically record them, otherwise, I'd never see anything

I heard a rumor that Downton Abbey was going to re-run on PBS (America) starting with the first season. I haven't checked out the rumor, but if it is true, I HIGHLY recommend it. Same thing if Doc Martin (also PBS in America) ever re-runs from the start, it is awesome.

Phylis, I'm with you. We used to know which night and which channel something was on. No more. And with the DVR, I don't even know when the shows are on that have some sort of regularity. We record everything we watch. (Same thing happened with cars! Remember when all the new models came out in September?)

I used to enjoy the CSI shows, but they are getting gorier and gorier, with more and more flaws in the writing. I'm "this close" to bailing on them and doing scrap pages if DH still wants to watch them.

The Law and Order shows were also among my favs, but they are getting weirder and more twisted. Also ready to bail on them. Not much is left, as I don't like reality shows (have even bailed on Dancing With the Stars).

And why do so many shows have to have scenes in strip clubs?

Castle, Blue Bloods, The Mentalist (although getting sick of the Red John thread), The Closer, Rizzoli and Isles...that's pretty much it on commercial TV.

It was horrible!! I was totally with Christina when she started ranting about having to get away from Seattle since only bad things happened there.

But was this really REALLY the end?? No more GA? Or are there still a few episodes left??? pleasseeeeeeee...

Shar- ITA. We started getting so sick of the same old same old with L&O and CSI's. Although I have to say I was surprised that I actually like Ted Danson in CSI.I don't typically like him as an actor to begin with, but I like his character and he has changed things up a bit.

And seriously, why does everything have to have strip clubs??

Yvon - don't you worry. They just signed 2 year contracts with several of the GA actors so we've got at least two years left. That was just the season finale not the series finale.

Yes, this is Ted Danson's best roll. I was afraid they were going to start him on an affair with that new blonde gal (don't like her character), but last show I watched had Frasier's old producer, Roz (Terri Gilman??) as his wife. But now they've got a child kidnapping going on, and I can't watch that kind of story line, so I'm off CSI until they get that resolved...maybe off it for good.

Shar, I'm with you, I don't watch anything that involves violence against children. I watch tv/movies for entertainment and I don't find that in any way entertaining. *shiver*
