Request for prayer and good thoughts

clarabear

always chatty at the O!!
So, yesterday I was at a friend's house when another friend texted me asking if I had heard that there had been a shooting at Ft. Bragg. I don't have cable so I was glad to be someplace else to watch the news.

So basically what happened...a soldier was not happy with one of his leaders so during a formation (when all the soldiers stand in order to get accountability or put out information) he shot the senior leader and another soldier was slightly injured and the the guy tried to turn the gun on himself. Because he was in a formation he was surrounded and so he was taken down. He is now in custody.

So, Ft. Bragg is the most populated Army base but it is still a giant community. The post as a whole will be taking this hard. I have so many questions...did this guy have PTSD? Was he just a bad egg? Was he pushed to his breaking point by repeatedly being asked to do ridiculous things? Does he have a family? Is the army going to look into the why and address it or just figure out the how?

It is so hard to get good psychiatric care as a soldier. To get a referral most of the guys have to see a PA in their unit and talk to their medics. Basically getting care from their peers. There's a lot of great programs but they don't always get used or they may not be allotted the time. I just hope the Army can look past a crazy guy who shot someone and start trying to help these soldiers who are deployed every other year some real help. Help that actually helps.

So, I'm asking for prayer/good thoughts for all the families involved in this situation, the unit that was affected, the community, the investigation and the military leaders who can decide what to do next.

Thanks everyone.

I thought about you when I read the story last night. I hope your family there can mend quickly and steps can be taken to make you all feel safer and better and that something good came out of this.

That is so sad. It really is too bad that things like this aren't caught before they happen. Sending a prayer up for all involved.

so sad. i think sometimes in that kind of environment, they don't feel like they can ask for help. it would be a show of weakness.

sending good thoughts too....

That is so tragic! I agree with Vicki that they could see it as a sign of weakness & don't seek help. Hopefully this starts some changes being made to make mental health care a priority for these men&women.

Sending positive thoughts to you & Ft.Bragg!

Tragic news, Clara - I saw it on CNN - Prayers and good thoughts for all the Fort Bragg families, the military community as a whole.

Personally, I think the young and older men/women who serve their country should receive nothing but the best in medical and psychiatric care - without question - without delays.
There is no excuse for ignoring the men and women who risk there lives and withstand the horrors of war.
