Take an extra minute to hug your school age students and give them a little extra attention. Then make sure to say a prayer for those that you entrust them to every day.

A very disturbed young man shot two administrators at one of our local high schools, killing a 58-year-old mother. After he fled, he turned the gun on himself.

It breaks my heart for all the families involved and makes me more and more glad our building has been locked down during the day.

Lastly, if you or your family owns firearms, please do all that you can to make sure that no one else has access to them.

Sorry for the emotional post, but it hit very close to home today. Please keep these families in your thoughts.

you got it!! Something I should do everyday anyway. Ugh!! Just as I'm about to put Ethan in school. Extra praying coming from here for sure.

hugs to you Sara!! what a terrible things to have happened!! my thought are with you and all the families involved!! xx

OMGoodness Sara! What an ordeal! I just cannot begin to imagine!

I cannot even imagine schools locked down here and TG guns are outlawed!

Such a sad sad tale!

(((HUGS))) to you Sara!

Sara, I saw your post on FB- how scary and horrible and heartbreaking.Maybe its just what makes the news, but these kinds of things just seem to be happening more and more frequently.

hugs to you and to all in your community

Sara....again....I know the emotional horror of this being so close to home!!! I am praying for you, your co workers, students and families!!!

I totally agree about everything you have said here...these kids need loads of attention, and parents need to be watching close....when you think everything is okay....double check....

A word of advice from a Mom of two kids that have been in HS, and we all survivied.....NEVER BE AFRAID TO BE NOSEY!!!!! Doesn't matter if your kids hate you for it.....they will thank you later!!!! Pissing off your kids can actually be a good thing sometimes....it can save them!!!!

And YES YES YES....all firearms should be locked up...and the key put no where that those kids can find it!!!!!

Sending lots of love to all sweetie!!!!!!

Sara - you, your family and all children are in my prayers -
it's shocking, terrible and unimaginable horror

Thank you everyone. The community here at the O is the best. And the community in our town is so supportive of each other that we are all pulling together for the families of the assistant principal that was killed and the shooter. And clearly for the students and staff of the school as well. It's that support that will help people make it through.

You know, its weird.... on the one hand, Cait gets pulled down to the Guidance office all of the time. Her writing is not happiness, rainbows and unicorns, So they are always on her case about what she writes. She is an extremely talented writer and has an amazing imagination.

But even as I am annoyed by the school's constant nit-picking.... I thank them every time for making sure she is ok. It must be so hard to be in a school setting and not know whether something is "off' or not. You guys know me, I am a very hands-on parent, but I guess not everyone is.

My heart breaks for the kids and community. I think so many times these things might have been prevented, maybe if someone cared or noticed or wasn't afraid of speaking up....

One thing that stuck with me, after I read "Columbine" was how ostracized the parents of the shooters were. I am really proud of your community Sara to be able to get past that. I am sure it isn't easy but IMHO- it is for the best, for everyone.

And new prayers for all those affected by the shootings in Arizona today.

I'm so weary of the senseless violence.
