Needing LO blending help

I'm in awe of all you ladies that rock the blending. Can someone give me some pointers (or point me to their favorite tutorial) on blending a photo so that the paper texture shows some without loosing too much of the detail in the photo? On the page I uploaded today, I would have liked the large blended flowers to be more blendy, but when I lowered the opacity anymore it seemed too faded. I tried a few different layer blending modes but that didn't look quite right either. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I basically do what Vicki said where I'll have 2 or more different blended layers to get the look I want, but I also mix it up with other styles of blending that I learned from Ona's tutorials above.

Thank you both! I'll check out those tutorials. I never thought about duplicating and using more than one. Thanks!

I never thought about duplicating and alternating styles either, but Amanda's tutorial (which I think Vicki linked to) really helped me break out of the mold. It's easier now, when things look too washed out to adjust it! :-) Good luck Karen, can't wait to see what you come up with!

ooooh, elisa, thanks for posting those links. i hadn't seen this one

but dang, the layout Ona featured there - wooooh. i LOVE it. and I thought, i'm so gonna do that one. Then, Miss Elisa, I saw your layout for an upcoming collab where you did this (sorry, it's not a live layout yet for the rest of y'all) but, holy wow, i LOVE it too!!!!!!!!

Also, try blending extra papers on top too

here's one where i blended 2 papers on top of my photo

Amanda is the queen of blending (in my opinion) just browsing her gallery makes feel awe.

and she shows just how powerful 'washed out' can be here

Thank you, Ladies. That helped so much. One of the mistakes I was making was not merging my photo to the clipping mask to start with. Thank you! :)

Another tip while I'm thinking of this & before bed, lol, is lots of times I'll change my picture to a black & white photo for the blending then I can really play with the levels & contrast one way or the other to affect the blend. Depending on the Blending Mode, sometimes a lighter photo shows better & sometimes a darker photo does, so I like to play with levels & contrast after I pick the mode just to see what it'll do.

Ona & Amanda are definitely my blending idols, lol!!!

The thing with blending on a page is I don't think you can do wrong, it's all artistic & all fun to try.

I hope you come and join us in the challenges Karen, you don't have to participate if you don't want to but you can come and ask as many questions as you like!! the ladies would all love to give you a hand as well. As you can see there is often more than one way of doing something!! xx

This is one I did the other day with one of Ju Kneipp's kits and to date it is my very favorite!!! :)

With this one I used the same background paper over the top of the photo as well and then erased it away from Shayla's face, but you can still see it on top of the white rose. I feel this gives an added depth to blending......... like Elisa and Vicki have already said, just play around, duplicate pages, photos whatever, if you make a mess just delete and start again! (I often do that!!!! )
