How do you fit exercise into your dayily routine?

Every weekday morning my husband gets up and does 30 minutes on his exercise bike, then jumps into the pool for a quick swim and THEN we have breakfast. Even when he travels for work, he gets up earlier and goes to the gym for his bike... I admire his persistence - he's been doing it for 2 years now and counting... but what I love the most about his system is that it does not interfere with his day. He does it first thing in the morning before his head is filled with work, problems and whatnots.

While he excersises, I go wake the kids up, make their lunches and see them off to school. The whole process has been calibrated perfectly so that when they are gone, he emerges from the pool and we can have a quiet coffee together before he leaves and I take the dog out. By the time I come back home, I've already been up for more than 90 minutes and my mind's aready busy and elsewhere - emails I need to send, lessons I need to prep for, layouts I need to make or post... what to make for dinner... shopping list... while exercising - either going to the gym or just following a YouTube video at home - just doesn't fit... I do have the time, just not the motivation... and yes, I am aware of how lame this sounds.

I want to be more active. If I had a buddy - which I used to but unfortunatley not anymore - I'd follow happily... so I need to create a system for myself - a routine that would not be interrupted by plumber coming or kids needing help with homework or an urgent (or not so urgent) email that needs answering (in other words, I need to eliminate as many excuses as possible). I am not a procrastinator, but when it comes to exercise - few can compete with me...

How do you guys do it? How do you find the inner motivation to exercise?

Actually I don't. I go to work on my bike two or three times a week, I have my garden, and I do most of the house keeping. That's more then enough excersise for me :D

I don't. I ignore it all.
:D

I am more like Jeanette, I spend most of the spring and summer outside doing yard work. I clean 2 friends' houses, one each week, plus my own. However, I really need to start doing something more regularly. I am gaining weight and I know that I am at risk for osteoporosis since I already have osteopenia, its precursor.
My plan is to start doing yoga again. I can do that at home, but like you @Jam-on-toast I need to do it early in the day before I get off and running and it slips my mind

I wish I had an answer. It is too cool for me to swim right now. We were walking once a day...but that has gone by the wayside. I really need to get back to walking on a regular basis! Exercise is just not my priority and never has been. :(

We have 3 days a week where we do Nordic Walking. But sometimes, especially in winter, it is so hard to overcome the 'inner laziness' ....

I try to get out for a walk if nothing else, but I also belong to a hiking group and we hike on Wednesdays. This winter however hiking as not been happening so much as the weather has just been really bad this year. I hope to get back to it on a more regular basis soon. I hope that you can find something that works for you @Jam-on-toast

I have a compact treadmill and I walk on at least once a day. I get off the treadmill and do about 10 squats while my muscles are warmed up, then I do some ballet-type core exercises and do wall-push aways. They're push-ups that you can do against the wall. I used to do planks, but since I broke my clavicle, I'm working back up to those. The wall push ups are what I'm starting with. (BTW the surgeon I went to told me that doing planks was probably what saved me from really wrecking my shoulder!) I didn't even need surgery and he was amazed at how quickly it healed!

I always do my exercise first thing in the morning before I´m to tiered to do it. It helps me to get a lot of energy in the morning and produce more.

I Nordic walk first thing in the morning when it isn't raining. I'm up to 4kilometers. which takes me anywhere from 45-60 minutes .. not fast but still worthwhile.
I hate the rain which is really bad as it rains here all the time.
I do have a stationary bike which I use sometimes. Again not fast, just enough so that my muscles are working and I can read while biking.

I take classes! I had a membership at a small gym that ended up closing, then for a couple of years I belonged to a neighboring city's community center that allowed you to take a any of their classes for a monthly fee. I currently belong to a closer gym that has a wide variety of classes you can take, also for a monthly fee. Before I started my new job, I was going 5 days a week, mixing strength training with core building classes and a little bit of Pilates. Now I go 4 days a week. I do some walking too, when the weather is nice. My sister just gave me her bicycle, so I'm going to do some of that too when the weather improves.

I realized a long time ago that going to group classes was the only way I would get it done. I get up, get dressed, and go to class as if I were getting ready to go to work or school, it's that much of a routine now. If I can't go for whatever reason, I tell myself that I'll do one of my videos or one of the You Tube channels I follow, but I always manage to keep putting it off until later in the day, and then I don't do it at all.

Oh, I like this... there's nothing like knowing you've paid for something for the inner voice to nudge you to get up and get your money's worth!!!

This sounds like a win-win situation... I need to try that...

Olga, thank you so much for starting this thread. Over the last few days, I have decided that I *am* going to start doing yoga again. I am even steam-cleaning the BR carpet this morning so I have a fresh place to put my face LOL. I will also wipe down my yoga mat, its dusty for sure! :D
TY!!!

Olga @Jam-on-toast I was talking to my son-in-law today about the "wall pushups" and he said they were extremely good both for upper body and core strength! I was glad to hear a man say that. You really have to put your whole core into them. I've done them for years and there are several different positions you can use your arms in. There are even some that you only use one arm.

Thanks Cheryl, I need to try those to strengthen the muscles on my back...

I try to exercise for 30 minutes almost every day. And if I don't, I try to walk a little.
I've been following a physical therapist's class 4 times a week on Instagram since the first confinement. And for the past month I've been following a dancer's class. It reminds me of my dancing days when I was young (classical, jazz, modern).
It's a necessity for me. It's my break between my professional life and my personal life.
I make the emptiness and that reboosts me. I admit that some nights I force myself a little, but I'm always happy to have made this effort.

Unfortunately, I am very immobile of my own choosing! My first husband and I used to speed walk 4 miles in an hour back in 2002. I would love to go back in time and continue that! But, alas, life changed and we lost the motivation. Now I live right on a busy highway and would not dare to walk on it, even though some brave souls do. And even though I have a place I could go about 5 minutes from the house. I have no motivation. One of the things that helped us in 2002 was that we walked out our door and the exercise began! We lived about a mile from the track and had a nice sidewalk! The walk there and back was the warm up and the cool down.
The only exercise I get now is the housework!
