For all moms and not.....

I saw this posted on Facebook, and it truly sums up how I feel about women and their hearts. It was linked to this blog: http://messymiddle.com/2012/05/10/an-open-letter-to-pastors-a-non-mom-speaks-about-mothers-day/
And while it has religious tones- as in referring to church services on Mother's Day, i really wanted to share it with all of you.

IMHO, being a mother means so much more than what society traditionally thinks of as "Mom." I think all women need to be included and recognized.

So here it is:
To those who gave birth this year to their first child—we celebrate with you
To those who lost a child this year – we mourn with you
To those who are in the trenches with little ones every day and wear the badge of food stains – we appreciate you
To those who experienced loss this year through miscarriage, failed adoptions, or running away—we mourn with you
To those who walk the hard path of infertility, fraught with pokes, prods, tears, and disappointment – we walk with you. Forgive us when we say foolish things. We don’t mean to make this harder than it is.
To those who are foster moms, mentor moms, and spiritual moms – we need you
To those who have warm and close relationships with your children – we celebrate with you
To those who have disappointment, heart ache, and distance with your children – we sit with you
To those who lost their mothers this year – we grieve with you
To those who experienced abuse at the hands of your own mother – we acknowledge your experience
To those who lived through driving tests, medical tests, and the overall testing of motherhood – we are better for having you in our midst
To those who will have emptier nests in the upcoming year – we grieve and rejoice with you
And to those who are pregnant with new life, both expected and surprising –we anticipate with you
This Mother’s Day, we walk with you. Mothering is not for the faint of heart and we have real warriors in our midst. We remember you.

It gave me chills.

I raise a glass to all of you!

I am glad you all liked it. I guess since I know so many people in this list and how Mother';s Day can really be hard for them, it touched me deeply.
I'd also like to add Birth Mothers, because they give the greatest gift of all.

Thanks, Chris!! Did you see how many replies she got on her blog. OM!!
I've doubted to make a layout about my relationship with my mother (she is over 90 years now). I didn't. You don't want to know ......

I copied and pasted the poem/prayer. It's a good one, VERY good!

(((((((((hugs)))))))) V.

I think that this was such a good poem because it validates that that life/motherhood/parental relationships are not always what it looks like or is supposed to be on the surface. And society doesn't give those women (or sons, for that matter) the ability or the value of saying "No, this Mother's Day is not like what Hallmark/ProFlowers/Kay Jewelers say it is and how I am supposed to feel.

I bet that if you ever did make a LO about your mom it would be honest and real.
And beautiful in its own way.

Bumping this one up again.

I know that this day is really hard for some people, and I think it always deserves another read.
This year I also want to add in those dads who have taken on the role as "mom" too, be it through loss, divorce, deployment. You all get a :high5: for that dual-role you must play.
