April Art Journal Challenge #1 - Mornings

Okay y'all, let's get our thinking caps on because today we start a new month of challenges. For April, because it is National Poetry month, the them for this month comes from a quote by the poet William Blake.

"Think in the morning. Act in the noon. Eat in the evening. Sleep in the night."

For the first challenge, we are going to focus on mornings. I know some of y'all are groaning now because y'all are not morning people. I understand cause I am with y'all on that. But there is no requirement that you make a page about how much you love the morning. I definitely did not.

This could be a great time to do a page about your love affair with coffee. Or maybe you are a morning person. Tell us why. Create a list page with your morning routine. (Cause we all have to get up even if we don't wan to.) Do a page about that one day when you had a great morning (or a crummy one). There are a lot of different way to.

To get us started, here is a mood board I created to help get you inspired.

I also found a few great quotes that could help get you going.

  • “With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.” —Eleanor Roosevelt
  • I hate mornings, they start so early. --"Janet Evanovich)
  • “An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day.”—Henry David Thoreau
  • “The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep.” —Rumi
  • "The early bird can have the worm. Because worms are gross and morning are stupid." --Anonymous
  • “The sun is a daily reminder that we too can rise again from the darkness, that we too can shine our own light.” —S. Ajna
  • “Every morning a new sun greets us, and our new life begins.” —Marty Rubin
  • I hate that part of the morning where I have to get our of bed and participate in real life" --Anonymous
  • “Gloom and darkness are temporary. Joy comes in the morning.” —Sunday Adelaja
  • “Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.” —Buddha

One last idea is to embrace national poetry month and write a poem. This could be a great time to write a haiku about mornings. Here is mine. (Sokka would be proud.)

Mornings come early.
They force me to wake too soon.
I do not like them.

And here is the page I created for my haiku.

Remember, for the art journaling challenges you can create any style of page. You get to decide what art journaling means to you. It can be a traditionally artsy page, clean and simple, pocket style, junk journal or something else. That is up to you.

Because this is an art journal challenge, we want to encourage you to explore using more artsy elements on your pages. For the month of April, we'd like you to try using paint on your pages. Almost every kit contains paint these days, so I am sure you already have some in your stash. It's not required but you can earn one extra entry this month for using paint on at least one of your pages. (The paint must be clearly visible not hidden under a cluster or buried under a photo.)

Everyone who participates in any of this month's challenges will be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift certificate to Oscraps. You can receive up to four entries into this month's drawing.

I can't wait to see y'all's takes on mornings.

Challenge Rules:
  1. You have until 11:59 p.m. ET on April 30th to complete your pages for this challenge.
  2. To qualify for the drawing, you need to use 80% Oscraps products that are currently in the store (non-Oscraps products or retired O designer products can be used whether the designer is selling elsewhere or not).
  3. You need to credit all the products used on your page.
  4. You cannot use a page you create for this challenge for another Oscraps challenge.
  5. Upload your page to the Art Journal Gallery and then add your layout to the challenge thread. (Below you will find instructions on adding your page to this thread.)

Adding a linked layout from the Gallery to a thread: 1. Upload your layout to the gallery first. In your forum post click the Gallery Embed icon (little camera). 2. This will open your gallery, simply click on the layout you require, then scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click the Continue button. 3. Your linked layout is now in your post, the image will appear once you have clicked the Post Reply button.

Looooooove it!!! I have heaps of ideas running through my head for a layout so I had best go and get that started! lol!

I'm another not fond of mornings. I've written something that might be a poem if very free form.

English Translation: You did a great job. We'd love to have you upload the page to the Challenge 6 gallery. If you need help with that please let me know and I'll have a German speaker help you. (Please forgive me if Google Translate has resulted in my saying anything offensive.)

Such a fun challenge. Thanks for hosting, Cindy.

This night owl is NOT a morning person. I thought this quote was quite fitting—and so does my family. They know nothing happens for me until after 10.

Used Anna Aspnes' APP Bravura.

Liebe scribler,
dies wäre sehr nett, wenn sie mir helfen könnten, denn leider kenne ich mich hier noch nicht aus.
DANKE schon mal im voraus.

English Translation: dear scriblers, it would be very nice if you could help me, because unfortunately I don't know my way around here yet. Thank you in advance.
