My heart is broken. My dog is gone.

We had to make the terrible decision today to put our senior dog down. His medication was no longer helping even though his dosage had been increased. He started crying all night, every night and would wander the house. His legs would give out from under him and he was unable to get up. We were continuously picking him up and setting him upright. We finally realized he was not getting better and it was selfish to try to hang on to him. I took him this morning and have cried all day. My heart is so sad.
 
So so very sorry. I am sending big hugs. It is one of the hardest things to do, to make that decision. May you meet again on the Rainbow Bridge

I am so very sorry that you had to let your beloved furry friend go.
Letting him go is the worst thing for us humans and the greatest service of love you can give your beloved pet.
 
Thank you all so much. I still expect to see him walking around the living room or standing by the doggie door. We have two other dogs so I brought Teddy's harness and leash home for them to smell. I laid them on Teddy's mat. I hope they won't grieve too much. I know I am.
 
Oh, Evelyn, I'm SO sorry that you had to go through this. It's the hardest thing and I'm sending you lots of love and hugs. Just picture The Rainbow Bridge. That always helped me when we lost our beloveds. You'll meet again someday. :hug2:

Thank you do much. I am hoping dogs will be in heaven. If so, I have quite a few waiting for me.

I believe all of our pets will be there - it gets me through the hard times. I almost started crying when I saw your post. It's just the worst! I'm already worrying about it because our dog is 7 already. :( I told my DH that when she got older, we were getting another one. I can't go though that loss again.

I understand completely. Teddy was the special fur baby that helped with the loss of our sweet dog, Beau. Teddy also saw the passing of our sweet sweet dog, Maddie. We grieved and grieved over Maddie and brought Molly home. We also, by circumstance, ended up with our daughter's dog, Rocky. So, we still have Molly and Rocky plus Sophie our cat. I know that it won't be possible to get another fur baby at this time. Molly and Rocky will both turn eight this year and our kitty is 15. I know that we will face this again in the future and it will never be easy. It was a gut wrenching decision but it had to be made. If we had but one dog and lost that dog, I would for sure get another dog.
 
Evelyn, this is truly a difficult day for you. I am sorry and feel for you. I miss my dog- and hope one day to have one like him again!

I can understand that. When we lost our dog, Maddie, years ago, I prayed for God to send us a dog and He sent our dog, Molly.

Thank you so much, Veronika. You are right. Sometimes we have to love them so much we let them go so they won't suffer anymore.
 
Thinking of you Evelyn, we have lost a couple of fur babies over the years and it is not easy to say goodbye to them! You gave your fur baby a beautiful gift in taking away his pain, no doubt he is still there with you but without the pain. :hug2: :beatingheart:

Thank you, Ona! That is a beautiful way to put it. He will always be in our hearts and memories!
 
I´m so sorry Evelyn! I know what you are dealing with, the same happened to me in last September. So sad to lose them. Huge and tight hug. Be strong.
