Just another camera thread

Ok....My Canon Powershot A610 might have bitten the dust. The lens is stuck out and all I get is an E18 error. Common I guess on these models.

I've really loved my Canon. And I have always had good experience with Canons. I've had bad experience with Kodaks. I don't want an SLR.

Input?

oh no Sara!! that's a bummer!!

I have an older Canon Powershot SX5 (I think) and I love it. I have had it for two years now and bought it on ebay. It had only been used a couple of times and was able to puchase it for around AU$250. I must say that I am noticing the lens going back in a bit slower, hope it doesn't mean I will share the same fate as you!!!?

I think I will stay with this sort of camera though, if something does happen, its not a full on SLR and I am still learning to use it manually. Good luck on finding a replacement!! :)

I was looking at another Canon Powershot too, the SX20. I also have a friend who has a Nikkon D40 that takes amazing pictures, but that's an SLR and it's a little pricey I think.

None of the SX models are listed on this E18 error website. http://www.e18error.com/

OH NO Sara! How traumatic! Even though I have my Canon SLR, I still use and love regularly my Canon Powershot! I just LOVE that flip screen. I hope this gets resolved soon.

I know that I love the Canon G series.. I used to use it for a summer job I had for 7 years, (it is what they had). I also know at school that is one that the teachers liked too for a personal smaller camera.

I guess I'd recommend that :-)

(I'd not recommend Kodak's anyway!)

Oh my point and shoot was a Kodak and it did the same thing as your camera did Sara...among other problems!! NO KODAK!!!

Best point and shoot I ever had was a nikon....it took the best photos!!!! it was originally my daughter's but I used it so much she gave it to me!!

I have a really really ancient (2003 *gasp*) Powershot Elph. 4.0 mp! But that little guy is awesome. I get great pics- I can bring it everywhere.

I also have a Casio exilim - got it last year as a gift. That is also a really awesome camera. I bring that when I want really good photos but don't want the DSLR.

I do have a Canon Rebel xti DSLR that I adore. Its heavier than the new models but takes amazing photos.

Gary has a Nikon Cool Shot- horrible- would not recommend that at all. Bad photos and video on it stinks.

Just my 2 cents- but I have to agree- I ama Canon girl.

PS: I also have a Canon EOS 35 mm- it has a roll of film inthere from -- I don't even know how old- I have like three more shots to take- and I just can't seem to ever be bothered with film any more.

Have fun camera shopping.

Oh! And keep your eyes open at woot.com. That is where I got my Casio (well, Gary got it for me) and it was dirt cheap.

My "point & shoot" was a FujiFinePix (can't remember to number!) and I loved it because it had the feel of a dSLR and some of the functionality ... it never let me down!!!

Thanks for all the advice everyone. We have a FujiFinePix little thing at school that's decent. I want something that is like a souped up point and shoot. I'll have to check out some of the ones you all have mentioned. I have Woot on my RSS, so that's a good idea to make sure I check it Chris!

Thanks girlies!

I'm a Canon girl! For a souped up point and shoot I would recommend the G9 or up. Takes fabulous photos, shoots RAW and everything in between. I also have an XSi which I love. Have used several Fuji Finepix, and they have done well for me too.

A friend of mine has a Canon G6, its a P/S but has interchangeable lenses- he loves it.

And another friend got a Nikon Cool Pix for Christmas- just yesterday she told me how much she hates it.

Hope something pops up on woot for ya!

I just bought one

I always have a point and shoot in my purse and it really takes a toll on those cameras so I've bought a few. Anyway, I just bought a Canon 780i-my requirements were that it was small, had a viewfinder and could take hd video. That narrowed it down to one. It is pretty good although nothing like my dSLR. My mom picked up the sd1200 because she wanted a viewfinder and it needed to be pretty cheap. She's happy with it. Consumer Reports has a pretty good article but I can't remember which month. I'm a Canon girl too. Happy Shopping! PS. I bought it at SEARS. I was completely surprised that they had it and it was the cheapest at the time.

I liked my Canons too. I had a Fuji but hatedthat it used an xD card instead of and sD card. It seems like no matter what kind of camera you get the lens thing can become an issue at some point. I had an awesome little canon power shot, I can't remember which one, and a shut it in a door accidentally when I was in a hurry getting in the car. That was a great little camera.

Diane - I think that's the same one that Tessie has maybe. I looked at that for a while, but I thought it was hard to find and that they went to the SX20 now.

Yes, I asked Maya, she said the new version is SX20!
