Oscraps

Welcome Guest Designer – Vicki Robinson

scriblerDesigner News

We’re excited to be welcoming Vicki Robinson to OScraps as a guest designer.  To help welcome Vicki, let’s get to know her a little better.

Guest Designer - Vicki Robinson

What famous location would you like to visit? The Tower of London. I know that it sounds odd, but I am fascinated by female monarchs and many of the British queens spent a considerable amount of time in the Tower. I think it would be cool to sit there and imagine how they lived while incarcerated.

Where do you get your inspiration when designing a digital product? I’m an avid blog reader and have tons of feeds to browse through (I use Feedly). I’m always behind, but I love seeing what other artists, crafters and photographers are doing. I find that observing creativity in others gets my own mojo working. Pinterest is another reliable source of inspiration and has replaced my old-school physical inspiration boards. I’m also an online class junkie and I’m always inspired to use the techniques learn in my work.

When you are not designing what are you up to? Over the last few years I’ve taken up art journaling, so I spend my spare time in my little studio. I’m also an avid golfer – and pretty good at it – although I haven’t had much time to play lately.

PC or Mac? What program do you use to design? I switched to Mac four years ago, and I am now a firm believer. In fact, I own just about every Apple device made! I use Photoshop CC and Lightroom. I also have Illustrator and although I am extremely technically inclined, I find it intimidating. I use a Wacom Bamboo Pen and Tablet instead of a mouse  – for everything, no mouse all. I also keep current on Photoshop Elements for recording tutorials and I have a variety of art apps on my iMac and my iPad. I’m a total geek!

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you? I asked my husband this question and without a second’s hesitation he replied “Bette Midler.”  When I reminded him that when I wore my hair curly, people used to say I looked like her, he replied “Oh. Well, I was thinking it’s because you’re a ditz.”  Sigh.

Sweet or salty? Wine or chocolate? Beach or ski vacation? Coffee or tea? Sweet AND salty is a must. Salted caramel. Yum. Wine AND chocolate, of course. Double yum. Definitely the beach and most definitely coffee -unless I’m not feeling well. Then I love ginger, lemon and honey tea.

If you were granted 3 wishes, what would they be? To feed all the starving people in the world; to end discrimination of any kind; and to have every art supply I want  – and a studio big enough to hold it all.

How did you find your way to Oscraps? To me, Oscraps is one of the Holy Grails of our industry, but I’d never had the courage to apply.  A couple of months ago I got a Facebook message from Romy (Studio Romy) suggesting a local meet up, along with Amber (Crafty Button Designs) and Meg (Our Misadventures). Unfortunately, I didn’t see the message until after the meet up had occurred, but I was intrigued because I hadn’t realized there were designers anywhere near where I live – far out in the Gold Country/Sierra Nevada foothills of California. During one of our “chats” I confessed to my anxiety about applying to Oscraps. They were all very encouraging and suggested I write Vicki S. With their support, and because my “word” for this year is “fearless,” I decided to swallow hard and go for it. So here I am, living a dream – with three new friends!

Now that you’ve had a chance to get to know Vicki a little better, let’s take a look at some of the wonderful kits Vicki is bringing to OScraps.
