I can't believe I missed it-- yesterday was World Rat Day and I didn't find out until the end of the day. A lot of you know that my son and daughter have had pet rats for years now. Contrary to what a lot of people think, rats are incredibly amazing pets. Smart, funny, friendly with very distinctive personalities.

I know that a few of you also have had pet rats, Jeanette has them in the past. Have any others here had them? I would love to see pictures and hear your stories.

I adore scrapping pictures of them especially when they are doing something funny. Or just being snuggly. So in honor of World Rat Day, here are a couple of my favorite LOs
This one one that tells the story of the first time that these girls ate asparagus:

I myself have never had a pet rat, but my brother had two white rats when he was younger. They do have the cutest faces!! Love your pages showing us just how sweet they really are!

love the layouts and the stories, Chris
but not sure about rats for pets?!
or any other tiny animal.

as a child I remember holding a guinea pig and all I felt was bones and fur.
scared me a lot. so I never picked up such a pet again.

yep, the closest pet to a rat was a guinea pig as well, my kids had one when they were little and his name was 'Pugsley'. He was such a cute little thing. My youngest was around 4 at the time and a noisy boy! whenever I was nursing Pugsley and Glenn walked into the room the poor little thing used to burrow into my jumper and used to tremble!! lol! Glenn could never 'just talk quietly' though! :) But the older two used to bathe him and Michelle would dry him with the hair dryer set on low and Pug just loved it, nearly going to sleep while she did it. I so wish I had taken some photos of Pug, he was such an adorable little pet.

A few years ago, when we were living in the shed while building our house, we had a little native marsupial Antechinus that used to come in each morning to see what he could forage for breakfast! He/she got so used to us that Reg would put some peanut butter on his finger and make some little chirrup type noises and in would come 'Linus' to lick it all off, then he/she would scamper off. Such a little cutie. :) We were not sure whether what sex it was, but when it kinda disappeared we thought it might have been a male! (as per the article below) lol!

Marie-Claire- I still have it bookmarked over at Ravelry :)
Diane- they are honestly pretty darn sturdy. You can let them run around on your shoulders and they balance perfectly with their tails. These girls like to climb into sleeves and hang out, sometimes all three in one sweatshirt sleeve. LOL
Ona- my family keeps saying that if we could move to another country it would be AU just for the wildlife alone. What a fab story!

Ya know... I don’t think I could have a pet rat. Nope I know I could not have one. Good on you people though. I will stick to a dog even though I have to walk it. Lol
