What's your favorite flavor birthday cake?

I am a fan of many cakes, but really like a good yellow cake with chocolate icing. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

must be one with lots of fruit and nuts and for the flavour I'd like the Jamaica rum bottled to be involved in making it.

I'm not a huge fan of cake...really don't like frosting but give me a brownie and I'm in heaven.

Or... red velvet (my mother-in-law's recipe - no cream cheese frosting)

Oooh, I've never heard of yellow cake. What's in it?


My favourite is a simple, beautifully cooked Victoria sponge, preferably without being smothered in butter icing which my kids like and always sells well as the school home bakes.

And I too love cheese cake - pretty well all of them but especially a baked New York cheesecake. Yum yum!

I think frosting is disgusting! I want whipped cream on my cake. With chocolate mousse and mashed banana for the filling. Topped with hazelnuts. Now ... that's the ultimate cake!

But give me anything with whipped cream. Really, I could eat just whipped cream with nothing :)

My cake has to be CHOCOLATE! Maybe the best ever was served by a restaurant now closed. It was beet cake, that is a chocolate cake made with beets as an ingredient. It was rich and moist. It was served with heated chocolate sauce and a large dollop of whipped cream.

Have to say I made a courgette cake once and didn't tell anyone what was in it until AFTER they'd all complimented me on it! And, it was really good - think carrot cake but green.

I'd pick brownies over cake too, but give me some delicious whipped icing on a cake & YUM YUM YUM!

Or angel food cake. I could eat that all day!

Nutmeg cake - has a sweet crunchy crumb bottom. And it will waft the scent of nutmeg through the house when you cook it.

I was looking up how to make Red velvet cake a while back and found out that it got its color originally from beet juice which has since been replaced with food coloring and has a better taste now.

From what I understand a yellow cake is the same as a white cake with the yolk from the egg left in the recipe. Here is a recipe close to the one my grandmother used. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Davids-Yellow-Cake/Detail.aspx




Eva... I have a great whipped cream trick for you to try.
Take a graham crackers and break in half (to make two squares) slather some whipped cream on one square and then top with the other square. Make several and put in a freezer safe container and pop into the freezer. Easy peasy ice cream sandwiches. My favorite thing is that the crackers gets kind of soft like a real ice cream sandwich. YUM!

Mississippi Mud Pie is yum too... and pretty quick to make with the recipe I have (shortcuts and stuff) but this is the closest I could find to show you.
