What kind of job do you do ?

What is your job, at least if you are still working, maybe people are already retired. But what did you do before you retired?
I work in a factory where we package medicines. Currently I work 4/5th and am very happy with the one day I have off.
I have to work (I hope if the law doesn't change) for another 6 years before I can retire.

I'm happy to say I took an early retirement. I was self-employed for 25 years as a medical transcriptionist and a second job as a portrait/wedding photographer. I loved both of my jobs but I'm glad to just have all the time to myself now and not have a work schedule anymore.

I work full time for a school district, as a Human Resources Coordinator. What does that mean? Good question, I've been in the role for 2 years and still figuring that out lol I do a little bit of everything - all substitute dispatching, contracts, staffing notifications for payroll, etc, staffing for support staff, answering questions, employee onboarding, sick leave management, job postings, all leave approvals (personal days, sick leave, etc) - for a staff of about 1600 people. It's a busy job, seems like a lot when I write it down lol (it is a lot - I am definitely never bored!)

I was a Prek Teacher before I had my kids. I tried teaching for a year when they were 1 and 3 yo. They were at the school where I worked and anytime Caitlyn saw me walk past, she screamed bloody murder for me. I realized that after being with other people's kids all day, I was worn out dwelling with my own so I finished up that school year and never went back.
Neither of my kids wants kids of their own so at some point in the future I might go back to work in a school to get a baby-fix. Not as a teacher, I don't need to deal with that stress again. Just let me play with some little ones and go home at the end of the day.

I was in the field for 43 years and mostly loved it, but in the last few years I was mentally and physically worn out. I will eventually find some other job to do part time to supplement my income, but for now I'm just enjoying the time available to me.

For my part I am 10 years away from retirement (at 67).
I am an agronomist and I work in the french institute that manages the French quality signs (AOP, IGP, and organic farming). I am an expert in organic farming and I love my job.
I work on the harmonisation of the application of the European organic regulation in France, which is very exciting. Every question people ask me forces me to think, I have a lot of contact with producers, experts and ministry officials. I am never bored. The downside of this job is that I'm always overworked!

Sounds very interesting too, especially if it's such a diverse job.

I don't really know what a preacher does. And it doesn't seem easy to me to work at the same school where your children are

Indeed, retiring is nice, but your income also drops a lot.

Sounds like a great job Sandrine to me. In France, women are not allowed to retire until they are 67. Isn't there such a thing as early retirement? I can take early retirement at 62 and officially retire 5 years later.

I've done a few different jobs. My favorite job was as a HR Trainer/Facilitator. I was a leader in both large and small company workshops - some of them off-site and weeklong. Those were my favorites. We basically helped people learn to see each other's viewpoints and help people work more effectively together.

I sold real estate for a couple of years - later on - that was hard work (at least I thought so).

I became a stay-at-home grandma after my first grandchild was born so I would be available for helping and then my daughter went back to work and I was a lucky grandma to have my little guy with me every day. I haven't had an outside job since, but have done some at-home work. My granddaughter, sister and I started our own online jewelry/art business a few years ago.

Pre K is short for pre-kindergarten. I taught 4 and 5 year olds the skills they would need in school- writing alphabet and names, fine motor skills like cutting and tracing, as well some large motor skills. I had to teach one girl how to skip. That was really hard believe it or not! I also needed to work on social skills, taking turns, raising hands- sitting still (not very successful in that part, what 4 or 5 yo wants to do *that!* haha)
I used a weekly theme to incorporate all of that to be relatively cohesive and to have fun. I miss it some days.

finally retired I was a nurse then over night deliver drive, sold large format printers, bakery counter clerk now I collect a check for my hard work

I retired in 2016 and can't for life me work out how I used to fit it into my life!!! hahahaaaa!!!! I was an IT Workplace Trainer for a electricity company that had just over 4,000 staff. I used to travel our state to train people on how to use new software applications when they replaced older ones. I used to enjoy the traveling, 99% of time driving everywhere as I carried 15 training laptops in the boot of my car together with all of other techy stuff to set them up in a room and to train people at that location. Being away from home was not very nice, staying in different motels etc, but it was part of the job. On average I was away from home for about 5.5 months of the year.

I was with the company for 18 years and really loved it but about 2 years before I retired I was made redundant due to a lot of training being done over the intranet and so I worked in various areas as a HR officer, a project team member and other things. I think those two years were the unhappiest years of my employment there and finally I made the decision to retire in March 2016. I was pretty tired and worn out by then as well.

I absolutely LOVE being retired, the freedom to stay up late (and get up late if I want to), coupled with choosing what I want to do each day is really so fabulous, and that feeling has not worn off for the 6 years!

After a few years of that and when she was well enough I worked for a short time in a Deli. When we moved back to our home province of B.C. I got a part time job at a Hardware Store and had a lot of fun there! When the store got transferred to new owners, they did not want any part time workers, so I quit and have never looked back! I love being retired! I love the freedom to come and go as I please and spend time doing what I really love to do!

Now I'm a stay at home mom and part-time language tutor (I teach online) ... before covid I worked full time for a language school and before that - when my kids were young - I was a full-time stay at home mom.
