Was Anyone Else's Independence Day...

CHEERY O
like a freaking WAR ZONE??? I swear people found a way to buy professional fireworks. I didn't need to go to the strip - we had our own firework's display in the field across from us, and our next door neighbor shot them of IN FRONT OF OUR DRIVEWAY!!!!!!

I am normally loving fireworks and I love celebrating Independence day with the flags and all the red, white, and blue, apple pie, etc... but last night was beyond the pale. We have dogs and Gizmo was literally shaking in the corner with his tail down and ears down crying. He couldn't be consoled even in our laps! He just kept pacing, jumping, and then hiding at every boom.

It didn't stop until 2 am.

I am so tired, and we are meeting our daughter's boyfriend's mom today for the first time. This is very serious and most likely we will be family. They're already talking as if that's a foregone conclusion.

I gotta go figure out a way to cover up these dark circles and bags under my eyes!!

We haven't had a "professional" fireworks display in our small town for years, until this year. WOW! It was only a couple of miles from me and soooooo loud. I can't have a pet due to allergies, but, I felt so sorry for all the darling pets in my apartment complex last night as I'm sure it was driving them crazy. ♥

They had professional fireworks over on the lake that we could see from here. That doesn't bother me as much as the cracking and popping of people setting them off for at least a week. I know it's the 4th of July, but good grief do we have to listen to that for several nights? My dog isn't terribly afraid but it went on so late last night that it started bothering her.

Not too many fireworks around here. And we aren't close enough to the city to hear or see theirs, which is fine with me!

All of this activity is saved for New Years as you cant see fireworks here in summer. To light out. New Years, I feel this pain. Our neighbor loves his fireworks and they go off for about an hour with several pre-midnight test runs. Its so hard for the animals.

UGH...this sounds like the past two 4th of July times we had here before our neighbors moved, last year. They would go out into the street in front OUR house to set them off. This is a TINY street, one way, and there are only 5 houses on it. The street light is near our driveway so I think that is why they chose to do this. I have had fireworks that ended up being shot off into my yard, hit my metal roof, and then they didn't clean up their mess fully afterwards. We STILL have plastic crap on the side of our road from last year.

This year there were fireworks nearby, but they didn't go on for so many hours as they have in the past, and I think that is because our neighbors are no longer there and having a party. There WAS a massive BOOM that actually shook the house and sounded really close by around I think 5pm-ish? I never heard any sirens, so I am guessing it was someone nearby setting off tammerite. Usually when we have booms like that they are way weaker, still LOUD though and can shake the house a bit, but they are farther away. I was thinking it could have been some drunk idiot setting off all of his fireworks at once by accident, but there were no other firework sounds after the boom...my other thought was a meth house blowing up. No police sirens ever went off, so I guess neither of those happened. I do think it was tammerite...that stuff is SO explosive and it is ridiculous that just anyone can purchase it! :voodoodoll:

I'm sorry that you had to go through that last night/this morning....I hope meeting the mom went well!! :hug1::beatingheart:

Our neighbors went nuts too. I don't mind it as much on the 4th. But the days before and after? Annoying. The thing I don't like about it is the randomness. You're just sitting in your house reading a book and BOOM. 10 minutes later, another boom. 30 minutes later another.

Buying the huge professional type fireworks is legal in Pahrump, and we have a saying "Over the bump to Pahrump!!" and a lot of people must have done that this time, I'm tellin ya!!!

I'm in Vegas so they are everywhere!!

Our neighbors seem to start at 11 pm - it's like "Dude - it's dark at 8 - do it then when I'm not trying to sleep!!!"

The meeting went very well; thank you for asking!

yep, same here...random fireworks at random times...hate it!! We have people here who just do them here and there throughout the year, no holiday to celebrate, they just feel like playing with their explosive toys :voodoodoll:

I have to fess up, way back when -- 20 years ago, we would get some fireworks and light them in our neighbor's yard. But- they were the small ones that were either on the ground or maybe a few feet in the air.
The ones that the people light nowadays are louder and longer and go off all of the time. I live close to a lake and I think a lot of vacationers set them off randomly.
My one dog is ok-ish but the other one is traumatized. We give her Trazodone to sort of keep her calm but only on the big days like the 4th. And New Year's.

That is really exciting, Susie, that you met the parents :lovey3:
