Hi Ladies....It's almost here!!! Yikes!!! I can't believe how fast January is zooming by! With Valentine's Day quickly approaching I was curious...
what do you have planned for Valentine's day for your partners....as well as are you doing anything special for your kiddos? Do you have any valentine's day traditions?

For the kiddos, heart shaped pancakes to start the day! They both have parties at school that day too, so I'm sure I will be contributing crafts & snacks there. I heard from a friend that many pizza places make heart shaped pies on Valentine's Day, which I think would be a fun family thing. I might also scrap some cute little coupons for them and DH, redeemable for a movie night, extra bedtime story, etc.

Is Valentine's Day a public holiday in the States ?

In the UK it's a strictly for lovers kind of day, and much like Mothers & Fathers Day, one hands over the card in the morning and that's the end of it. Only the really mad, or really rich, attempt to dine out anywhere as even the lowliest of burger joints will be fully booked and very expensive.

Old-married-with-kids, like me, stay home and ignore the whole proceedings! If I'm very lucky, I might possibly get a card from my nursery aged child, but only because school will have organised it as an art project.

Oh no, like all things American, it's pretty commercialized. The kids have parties and exchange cards, cards for everyone!

I want to do something nice this year for DH and the boys too. I'll probably make their cards this year, but need to get busy on that.

Ohh Laura I love that!! My little guys loves pizza...I will have to check into that thanks for the idea!

It is commercialized here but I just look at it in a different way....it's another chance to show my love ones that I love them even though I show them everyday. Nothing too fancy or expensive...and WOW...no eating out or flowers for us...they boost the prices on those things to impossible amounts and rob us blind. :)

I love the pancake idea, especially since it is Saturday. I wonder if I could make a heart shaped waffle??

I am going to make little goodie bags for ethan and Addie to take to school. I'll make some bag toppers for them. I read somewhere on here about baking crayons into hear shapes, so I just bought the crayons for that. Can you believe they were cheaper at Walmart than the dollar store? They wanted $1 for 24 at the dollar store and $1.29 for 64 at Walmart. Then I'll put in a couple of pieces of candy. Not too much. I want to start making V-Day a special family day. Not sure how yet.

Cora - Yes it's Saturday! Nick bought me a Ebelskiver pan (Pancake puff) for Christmas so I will probably make him those :)

Clara that is a cute idea with crayons!!!! My son is allergic to Nuts so we can't do the candy thing....I love coming up non-food related things to do with him. Is there a link of how to make the heart crayon? Maybe we can do that together as a project! Wow that is cheaper....I love Wal*mart and Tar-Jay my favorite stores!!

For the crayons I think you just bake them until they melt down into the heart shapes. Target had heart shape cookie/cupcake pans in their dollar section. They were silicone so I thought it would be easier to pod them out. My plan was to pull all the wrappers off, then break them into pieces and put them into the molds until they melt down.

Oh, I made the pancale puffs. They are fun for a couple of batches but then you are still in the kitchen making them for awhile. We made them last weekend.

Hahahah so it wasn't just me!! I thought it was the endless pancakes...:) I think I am going to cut the recipe down next time I try it!

Thanks for the info on the crayons! I am definitely going to try this. He'll love smashing the crayons all up :)

I think it would work great if you like 4-6 pans. That would work perfectly!! Neverending was right. I think a batch or two of these with whatever filling you use as topping for pancakes would be fun.

I used jam. I found the trick though...fill the holes and the cook it for 3-4 minutes so that when you put the filling in it doesn't go to the bottom and then fall out. Once you make one batch the pan cools down and doesn't do a quick skin to keep it in the puff.

I've only used the plastic candy molds for my crayons, and that works really well. You just have to melt the crayons down then pour them in though. If you have little pie tins--from meat pies or something--you can use a hot plate and go that route.

and I'm looking forward to heart shaped pancakes in bed!! LOL!!!

Mr Gorgeous and I had our first date the day after Valentines and I asked him out on it! So when it was Valentine's (the day before the date...) I asked him if he got me flowers...he just looked at me and said, we haven't even gone out yet...AND I don't "do" Valentine's...

...that was 18 years ago...

this year, he told me that he worked it so that he would be home, not in CAlifornia, for Valentine's Day!!! I'm sure we will just look googly into each other's eyes...heehee..specially since he just took me to Paris...he'll be using that for a while!! and well deserved, too!! LOL!!!

I don't love the way the colors came out. The colors of the crayons came out pretty dark. I had to pull out the browns because there were so many of them, but that's what you get from Walmart sometimes. Not quite what I was hoping for but I like how they ended up. Just an FYI...the tops of these are kinda funky. The color mixes together a bit but the bottoms look pretty cool. Also, here's a website I got from my CT forum http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=190245.0
If I were to do it again I would probably also seperate the colors into like colors instead of all together and random. I do like how they turned out though and I am sure that the kids will love them. PLus having the colors all miked makes it so that there are no "girl colors" or "boy colors." Here are the pics though:

I need to make treat bag toppers. I am a total template junkie. Does anyone have a suggestion of some treatbag toopper templates?? I don't know what to do with out someone else's inspiration. I am sooooooo bad.

Clara - I think Mrs. Wresh has some treat bag templates. Try her blog or one of her stores. I actually just made Ben's for his birthday. I just measured out how big I wanted them and then printed them out on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. I cut and folded them and stapled them to the "snack mix".

Wow, you ladies are too cool and creative!

Inky- you are spot on about V-Day and every dayin the US.
(having issues with my kybd.....)
Anyway, we don't do V-Day here anymore, we used to , but I didn't even bother decorating.
We have a few days off for Pres. Weekend so the plan is to go to my mom's lakehouse Friday nite- Monday am. She'll cook a nice dinner, we'll have a glass of wine and that will be that.
No cards, no gifts, no need.... (no money LOLOL)
One year we did anti-V-Day for Scott and wore black and I dies dollar store roses black for him.
