Using Bridge?

My computer is in the process of dying, every time I think it is done, it starts working for a short bit of time like him...

th

But I know that is is going to die completely soon. I use ACDSee and will lose the program. I am going to have to use Bridge on whatever computer I will have available, most likely Gary's old laptop that had PS on it.

Do any of you have ideas of how to get the info on my tagging into metadata that Bridge can see? I'd like to work on that while I still have access to ACDSee but I can't figure out how to do it, or even if I can. There seems to be nothing online to help.

Are there other organizing options? I have been using ADCSee for years and years and haven't kept up with any of that info.

oh my... I gave up on ACDsee. I still have it but everytime that I updated my hard drive I had a problem. I don't use anything right now. But it would be nice to use some. Bridge does the job what I don't like is if I use a different computer and my data is in an external hard drive. How do I move my files around? A friend of mine used windows search but change the name of her files like a red rose from Vicki... Vicki_red_ele_rose.jpg and just search. I can wait to see other ideas...

Flor, that is a good idea, slow going but better than nothing, right? :D

Vicki- one of my all-time favorite movies (it was our drinking movie back in HS but shhhhh, don't tell my parents) and I don't think that I could ever pick a favorite quote from it, but this one is up there. ha!!!

Chris, I've been using ACDSee for years too, although I'm never up to date on my tagging. My computer died about a month ago, two days after we got back from vacation! I was able to reinstall ACDSee, my catalog and all my tags.
Why do you think that wouldn't be an option for you?

I'm going to get the new ACDSee when I get my new system soon but for now, I'm no help for information. I've started an ACDSEE pinterest board and will be slowly learning. But one of the things I hear is that you can save your tagging to install on ACDSee when you get it set up again on the laptop.

Jane....this is correct, right? As to how to save/download the tagging....no clue how to do it.

Hope you get it all figured out.

Yes, that's right Rae. I think the "embed Metadata option" came into effect in ACDSee 14. There are many different option that you can set to suit yourself in ADCSee in the Tools menu. One of those is under Database, set embed metadata reminder. Once this is set, every time you close ACDSee it will remind you to embed the metadata in all the files you have tagged that session. Its important to do this regularly as the number of files to embed can get huge, especially when you first start tagging. If you get thousands of files to embed at once, that can cause the system to crash.

Another important housekeeping task in ACDsee is to regularly optimize the database, say once a month. If you do that, you shouldn't find it crashes. One thing I did find was that it was too much for ACDSee to maintain my photos database as well as my digi elements, so I am using Lightroom for my photos (or I may look into Google Photos).

Jane - it's so good to hear your suggestions, since you use it and know what should and shouldn't be done. Hope you don't mind, I'll probably ask a bunch of questions when I get started :)

My copy of ACDsee is so old, and I don't have any program download keys anymore so I won't be able to re-install. I would have to buy a new version and that isn't in the budget:(

Jane, great advice on Db maintenence.
