"Sydney" covers a vast area and the places mentioned as being flooded are away west and north of Sydney itself. All the places like Windsor, Cattai in the west and the Hawksbury in the north are all very close to large river systems hence the flooding. My sister lives in the Peakhurst area, an outer suburb of Sydney and has had rain but nothing compared to the places I mentioned here. Those places are in the 'normal' areas of flooding on a yearly basis, but this year as been especially brutal for them all. Mother Nature can be relentless sometimes! :(

Thanks for that info Ona (@wombat146) When I hear Sydney, I think of the city. Nice to learn something new!

I lived in the Hawkesbury for 30 years (Windsor) and now we're in the Hunter Valley - we're not copping it as bad as the Hawkesbury is, but roads are cut off left, right and center. They are saying the next 24hrs are going to be bad here, but we're up on a hill so not worried at all, we might get cut off, but water won't get anywhere near our house.
