Oscraps

So tell me, what are your scrapping hang ups?

Too many photos? Can only do 1 photo layouts? Must have stitching or else? Can only use a neutral background? Tell me what you struggle with

I am trying to use more colour in my background pages and for the life of me I have to make my photos centre stage and sometime I think they are too big. i can't use these templates that are heavily layered with tiny photos.

Patterned papers. They scare the you know what out of me. I love how some people can use them as a main paper, but I just can't seem to do that.

Good question Heather, I;d love to see what everyone else has trouble with :)

The thought of art journaling terrifies me. And, if you look at my gallery, you will RARELY see blending! I have so much to learn...

I have trouble using more than one photo!! I also have trouble making my photos really small. I have been trying to do more white space also, but that kinda scares me too!!

I get hung up on the journaling - not creating the words, but keeping the journaling short enough to fit on the page.

And like Chris, I find patterned paper scary, unless the pattern is very small and easily hidden! Oh, and flowers.

I can't even start unless I have a template on the page! I don't follow it but I'm terrified of all that white :)

I'm a one photo person too - those tiny bits scare me - but I'm determined to try at least one template like this.

I'm also a ditherer - that's why I have so few layouts -Did someone mention patterned paper (eek)

I wish I could plop a piece of paper on the page, add a photo and frame and few elements and let it do. I can dream can't I?

Gosh after writing this should I even be scrapping LOL

Selena NO way - you are my journaling idol.....

Ha Selena, sometimes I feel that way about journaling!! Sometimes its like I get verbal diarrhea and can't shut up. I usually just erase the journaling !

for those of you afraid of blending or using patterns, you have to play with Anna's art plays-they changed everything for me. I know they may look scary, they don't look like your typical kit with papers and embellies, but if you open one up and play with the different transfers and masks, you will love it. The masks help to soften the bold patterns and the transfers are a must have for me (i didn't know what a transfer was until i jumped in and bought an art play) And yes I am on her team and that may make me biased, but they really are amazing and will help you "feel" all artsy!

always chatty at the O!!
I have a hard time with mixing patterns. I love papers but mixing them up doesn't seem to fall into place easily on my pages. like J, I also can't start a page w/o a template. I always know what kind of temp I am looking for but I just have a hard time with all that white. I also use templates to help me select how many photos I'm using if I have a ton of photos to select from. I know some people think templates take away from their creativity but it ignites mine.

Buttons.

What is the deal with buttons? I must have 500 buttons on my hard drive, and I've FORCED myself to use 3 or 4 of them (& I think I deleted them from at least one of those). They just always look artificial on my layouts.

I'm the opposite about 1-picture layouts. I think one photo on a page is wasteful (I print all of my LOs out), so I like a minimum of 3 pictures on a page.

it took me forever to use buttons on a layout!

Neutral backgrounds. I love bold patterns and colours...on other peoples' layouts lol. I can't seem to get them to work on mine!

I will say I use a lot of buttons but that may be because I scrap a lot of boys :)

This is making me think we need some speed scraps or guided scraps addressing these hangups/challenges, like:

- multiphoto layouts
- using pattern paper
- clusters
- journaling prompts (be sure to check out Sara's blog series on jounaling...these articles are fresh, original and awesome!)
- white space

etc., etc
Wouldn't that be fun? :)

Me, I can't do clusters to save my life. But once I was using this mini kit with flowers and stems and neat stuff in it, so I examined the preview, basically copied how things were laid out in the preview, and made a really pretty cluster.

So with some guidance, maybe we can help one another with these hangups :)

How about using one of those fab journaling cards the designers are doing now?

Take one of those, a frame made for 3 photos

1 pattern paper

1 or 2 solids

1 or more buttons or flowers (they can always be stuck on frames :) )

and just do it :fear:

maybe have a :partywine beforehand

it doesn't have to be a masterpiece or "art" but a few sentences about the photos

then we could start the really tough stuff - clustering, using multiple patterns etc

Since Kristy doesn't have any hang-ups she can be our fearless leader :bounce:

Although I am not a clustering wizard like several other people around here...I have found that using a template that focuses on clusters can be really helpful if you are stuck.

Thanks Jacqueline. I guess I'm still not sure of the purpose. Are they a stand-alone product (like you'd keep a box full of these instead of writing in a journal), or are they meant to be an element that you add to a scrapbook page (digital LO)?

There's a great article over at The Daily Digi blog today (here) about using "Project Life" supplies in digi-scrapping LO's ... and there's LOTS of examples using journaling cards!!!

This is a fascinating topic because my scrappy "fears" change, LOL. When I 1st started scrapping, I had no idea how to use string or curly ribbon. It's funny now b/c if there is a string or anything curly in a kit that I am using you can bet it will be on my page. I LOVE them now, hehe.

I also love flowers, use them on just about every page (and I have 3 boys). I feel lost when they are not in a kit and need to work on that. I do have a thing about "nekkid" flowers, though. You know, w/o foliage. Need to work on that.

My current fear (someone else mentioned it above) - art journaling. I'm working on it but I can't get past the "scrap" to get to the artsy feel of most incredible pages I see around.
I want to do that!
