Sewing

I pulled out my sewing machine yesterday to make a cover for a piece of equipment at work, and it struck me how little I sew anything anymore. When I was younger I would sew a lot of my own clothes. When my girls were little I used to sew cute little outfits for them, and even make clothes for their dolls to wear. I dabbled in quilting for a bit after that, but it didn't hold my interest.

Does anyone here sew as a hobby? If so, I'd love to see something you have made!

I used to sew all of my curtains (and some friends curtains), now it's cheaper to buy. I would alter some clothes to change the look - who has time for that anymore? I would sew up rips and pulled seams, etc. Now? Nope, just toss them.

Clothes for the kids, but that is a very long time ago!
Now i only get the machine out for repair work or some other not so fun job.

Here the same .. now the sewing machine comes out of the closet to shorten some pants or do some other repair work

Not me, I can barely sew a button. My MIL is a quilter and she taught Caitlyn how to sew. Cait makes really cute hammocks and tunnels for her rats' cage. They are made from fleece and she has ones for the holidays too.

I am like the others, used to make cute little outfits for the kids, but I was never really very good at sewing and it never sparked joy in my life LOL. Now my old 45 yr old sewing machine just gets pulled out of the closet for repairs etc. Amazingly it still works like a charm.

I used to sew many things when a was younger ...
Like Vicky a always made my curtains, all life long .... i bought only the last one, for one year !

I am very happy because my grand daughter (10) likes to sew and always ask i show her when we are together !
She dont want to sew with a special sewing machine for kids : she want to try on my machine !

My sewing machine was a wedding shower gift from my mother, so it's 36 years old, and still works just fine as well! It's funny you used the phrase "spark joy", because that's what came to mind yesterday after I finished the cover I made. I had a sense of satisfaction for completing the project, but as a creative outlet, so many of my former hobbies have been replaced by digital scrapbooking. :wink:
