I have only one technique in my wheel house for blending, but it doesn't always work for me and what I envision. What are some blending tips and tricks you can share with me (and us) that could help bring my pages to the next level?

ETA I use PHotoshop CC on a Mac

I get very good blending results with the blend if function in Photoshop. This works perfectly to blend layers together. You can find it in in the FX layer styles-blending options. Down at the list are two options for current and underlying layers. You have to play with the sliders to get your wanted settings depending on your artwork or page. Works very good on artwork and artjournal pages. Check it out on google there are much free tutorials online!

I use the blending in the layer styles for making my journaling more realistic instead of the words looking like they are floating on the page.

The blend of is pretty much all I use but sometimes it just doesn’t cut it! I love it though and it’s my most used action!!!

Yes - I make sure to do that too. When I first started, I used to put DROP SHADOWS on my journaling! Gasp!!!!

I use blending modes on most -if not all-of my pages.

Some additional ideas for blending if they aren't hitting you the way you want:
  • Duplicate the blended layer and use different modes on each layer
  • adjust opacity and fill levels
  • add a layer mask and erase parts of the blended layer
  • Use a blender over the page (Kay did a tutorial on using Jenn's Blenders)
  • add a layer underneath the blended layer to lessen the intensity of the blending. I did that on this page: https://oscraps.com/community/media/octobor-color-play-the-bride-and-groom.400034/
I can't remember the exact process but I masked the photo so it fit inside the moon and blended it into the background. Too much of the background color/texture was showing through, so I added a new layer under the photo and painted where it needed to be "blocked." I adjusted the opacity on the paint layer until it looked "right."
That's all I can think of right now-- maybe some of this will help!

Oh, one other BIG tip that helps me sooo much-- Use the Snapshot tool in your History. If I run through the blending modes and I see one that I like, I'll take a snapshot. After I go through them all, I go back to the history, look at each snapshot, and delete the ones I don't like. At the least, I can see which direction I want the page to go in.

HTH!

Oh, I forgot about the MODES!

One thing I like to do for creating blended layouts is to put a blank layer beneath my photo layer (or any layer!) and clip the photo layer to the blank layer. Then I brush onto the blank layer and watch the photo emerge. You can use multiple brushes of different shapes, sizes, textures and hues of black/grey.
