And our school isn't the only ones, two other school have reported an unusually high number of kids with lice. WTH? I check her every day, the poor thing. I am So Itchy!!!!!

My girls never had it....their classes did get it, but we lucked out....treated them anyway!!! But my grandson had it when he was 3 yo...we found out Mayonnaise works really well....you rub it all over their hair and scalp and put a shower cap over it. No nit picking for him though...just buzzed his hair down to the scalp!! Hard to do for a sweet little girl though :( Let me see if I can find a link to this info.....

here are a couple of links:
(in the 2nd column page 4...under suffocants. Also some alternative nit removals in there too)

One of the things that makes me cringe as a teacher. And it's so hard to deal with! Especially for girls! Good luck Heather!

O so scrappy!
Oh Heather I can only imagine. One of DH friends informed us that his daughter had it... after a weekend spent at her birthday celebration. I panicked for days about Isbelle getting it. She has waste long hair that is really, really curly. UGH!
I checked and checked and rechecked and we were in the clear.
Not a week later, there was a not home and someone in her class had lice. EEK! The panic set in again. I worried of course that I had missed it and that Isabelle had gotten it from her friend and spread it in her class. After a quick check from the nurse we are still in the clear, but I keep checking it daily just to make sure.

I have to admit just thinking about it has given me a case of the crawlies. I feel like I got some little critter crawling on me all the time. EEK!

Hope you are through the worst part and get the all clear soon. Darn those little buggers.

eeek!! When I taught PreK, that would make me cringe every time it went through.
Just thinking about i makes me crawly! :spider:

One thing that seems to help it to use a blow dryer on your hair-- high setting. I never got lice, my kids lucked out too, so I have no idea if that works, but I think that the heat helps kill them. Also-- run all stuffed animals in the dryer.....

Good luck!!!

Sticking my hand up here and confessing that my kids have had lice multiple times. Once one kids gets it it seems to spread like wild fire round the school.

I've done all the chemical treatments over the years and found the only thing that really helps is using a few (quite a few) drops of tea tree oil at the same time as you shampoo, then the age old conditioner aided combing every 3 days. We've just got through a bout and won't expect another for a while as it's so cold now, but when we lived in Singapore the little b*****ds were impossible to get rid of.

I think I'm relatively patient as I had a rather traumatic experience when I was about 10 - I had very long, thick hair and my mother was fed up doing the awful combing routine and me screaming each time, so she grabbed my plait and just cut the whole thing off at the top. Of course, it was all jagged and she then had to take me to the hairdresser to fix it, but told everyone in there that I had nits and I was taken off to a special area for washing, there was much disinfecting of everywhere (in my presence) and everyone in the salon stared at me. I've never forgiven my mother for this one!!

Fingers crossed that they are gone really soon and stay away for a long time.
My kids had it once in 2012 and hopefully they stay away in 2013 too

Oh my son had it once- he had been with scouts the day before and was sitting in the front row of church head to head with another boy- I checked him out side the church and then started making phone calls, went home to discover a niece lying on the couch (the families had come to work on my inlaws home being built next door) and I told her that my son had been lying there before church and she stomped out going to a clean house next door. I spent the day doing laundry driving to the store to get treatment and when I finally got home I discover the families had cooked and left me the dishes- yeah that is what lice reminds me of!! Good luck!
