This month, we invite you to explore the theme of "Risk" in your art journal. Risk is the leap into the unknown, the moment of courage when we step beyond our comfort zone. It’s about daring to try, embracing uncertainty, and growing through new experiences. This challenge is an opportunity to reflect on the risks you’ve taken—big or small—and express those moments creatively in your journal.
Taking the Leap:
Here is a mood board to prompt you:

And my page:
You can choose to do a single page, double page, tag, TN each week, or use a divided template—one part for each week. If you don’t have the Divided Template and would like to have it, you can get it here at Dropbox. Thank you to Ona @wombat146 for providing the template choices for us! If you use the template, we would love it if you post incrementally: post one done in the first week, post an image of the two together on the second, and so on until the finished page in the fourth week.
Again—the template is NEVER a requirement, just something fun and different if you want to use it.
Challenge Rules:
We look forward to seeing your art journaling pages!
- Reflect on a moment when you took a risk. What motivated you? What did you learn?
- Depict symbols of risk and adventure—bridges, tightropes, open doors, stepping stones, or anything that represents taking a leap of faith.
- Use bold, unexpected colors and textures to evoke the feeling of stepping into uncertainty.
- Explore the balance between fear and excitement. How does risk push you forward, even when it’s uncomfortable?
- Let go of control. Try working with unpredictable techniques like ink splatters, torn paper, or abstract layering.
- Experiment with mixed media. Incorporate found objects, spontaneous brushstrokes, or unfinished edges to symbolize uncertainty.
- Include words or phrases that remind you of courage. Quotes, song lyrics, or personal reflections can deepen the meaning of your page.
- "Security is mostly a superstition. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." – Helen Keller
- "You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water." – Rabindranath Tagore
- "Do one thing every day that scares you." – Eleanor Roosevelt
- "Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." – T.S. Eliot
- "Take the risk or lose the chance." – Unknown
- "Leap and the net will appear." – John Burroughs
- "A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for." – John A. Shedd
- "To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong." – Joseph Chilton Pearce
- "Everything you want is on the other side of fear." – Jack Canfield
- "It always seems impossible until it’s done." – Nelson Mandela
