Hey Everyone ... I've had my Nikon D60 camera since Christmas 2009 and although the kit lens (Nikkor 18-55mm F3.5-5.6G AF-S VR) that came with it is fine for everyday photos, I'm starting to think it may be time to explore other options available ... :photo:

... and so I turn to you, my dear friends, for ideas / suggestions / hints / tips about which lens(es) to splash out on! What lens do you have? What type of photos do you take with it? What lens would your really like to own? What would be the benefits of owning in?

So come on, please share your insight with me ... even if you're not a Nikon camera user, please share your lens ideas regardless of camera (I'm sure I can always find a Nikon equivilent!!!)

Thanks (in anticipation) for sharing!!!

I have a Tamron lens and I love it. I can't remember the size of it but I think it is 80ish mm - 300mm. It is awesome. The price of it is not bad.

My Camera is an Olympus...and it came with two lenses....I love my extended lens...40-150mm...as I take so many photos of my kiddos running around playing....I am thinking I need a more extended lens than this!!

But...I am no expert, as I have just started out on this SLR adventure myself.....I will anxiously await some of our resident experts to pop in and tell their secrets!! :)

Oooh ... thanks Clara! I was looking at a Tamron AF 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 lens actually and wondering if this would be a good investment. Think I'll take another look at it!!!

Thanks Nana ... I'm with you on the whole "new to dSLR merry-go-round" too... as I'm gonna be traveling through an airport in a few weeks, I thought I'd do some research before I go, so I know what to look out for when I'm in the duty free shops!!! See there's a method in my madness ladies!!!!

I LOVE my 50mm, although I am a canon girl, buit sure you can find a 50mm for nikon... right
50mm f1.8... makes wonderful portrait, with huge DOF, and can as well be a good lens for daily shot.

My fav lens ever, ( even if I have 6 or so, in a bag- not all mine, ;-) )

Thank you sooooooo much Val ... I've seen a Sigma 17-70mm F2.8 - 4.5 Macro lens which is supposed to be good for portraits ... will do some research & see if I can find a Nikkor / Tamron / Sigma equivilent for the one you've got. Thanks sweetie!

Terrific thread Sue, I am learning a heap!! I don't have a SLR as yet, I am using a Canon Powershot S5 is which is supposed to be a bridging camera. I was going to learn how to use this one 'properly' and maybe then go onto a SLR. My photographer DIL thinks I should be going for a SLR now. She has used my camera at family functions to take pics and said that it wasn't 'quick' enough, the press down button has a slight lag to it. So might get one sooner than later!! We will see! But I am going to take note of all that is being said here!! :)

you're going though an airport.............. where are you going???? anywhere exciting??? :)

That's the one I have. Just as a suggestion also, go to a camera store with your camera and try some lenses on. See what you like. Also, I don't know if they will ship to Europe but you can find some awesome camera and camera accessory deals at Cameta Camera on ebay.

I need to update my stash of holiday photos, you know the kind ... white sandy beaches, turquoise crystal sea and clear blue skies!!!!! I'm teasing on my blog at the moment but will "reveal all" soon ... we fly out on 20 June and I'm getting SUPER excited!!!

Great idea about trying out lenses at my local camera store! I'll check out that eBay store you've suggested too. Thanks for your suggestions!!!

That's what would suggest as well. Take your camera, and try out lenses. If the owner wants to sell something, he'd be happy to help you a lot! LOL

I've got a nikon D60 and a sigma 18-200 lens. I use it for everything.

Oh Sue....I have seen the results of some of these girls 50mm lens....GAH!!!! I am dying to have one!!! They are fantastic!!! Most of the pics look like NO EDIT REQUIRED!!! It's amazing!!
