New Year, New Healthy Habits

I always like to start the new year off with a positive outlook and enthusiasm for my health. Over the last five years or so, I've been slowly making changes and I think each one has been an improvement in my overall health. This coming year I think will be about maintaining weight, organizing make-ahead meals, finding new veggie recipes and cutting back a bit more on red meat. I've started re-organizing my pinterest boards (ugh, a huge project) to more easily access recipes and deleting many that don't fit into my diet plan anymore. I want to utilize my electric pressure cooker and crockpot more. Also, I want to start using my spiralizer tool too.

What about you? Have you thought about any changes you want to make, any recipes you want to try out or maybe introducing or eliminating any foods from your diet?

I always look at January as a fresh start, a way to introduce some healthy, positive habits into my lifestyle. Do you?

This year I really hope finally to start with yoga!
Always find some excuses to procrastinate that, and just keep it in my To Do List.

I am going to start the year with Vegan January to see how it goes. Already gluten and mostly grain free so will really be a challenge.

You are an inspiration, Rae-- so many good lifestyle changes. :high5:

Felis- yoga is something that I really need to get back into doing too. Yell at me in the Ooos and maybe I will do better this year.

Amsen- good luck on going vegan! My DD is vegetarian and she would love to go vegan too but she adores cheese. She freely admits that it is horrible but she cannot give it up.
If you ever come across good vegan recipes, I would love it if you shared them :)

Oh, if I start it I'll want to have 'company' with sure, so I will remind to you too, but if I'll still procrastinate will stay quiet, so to not remember for my fail. :yield:

I also want to try yoga this year. There is a yoga studio close to me so am going to book some beginner classes in January.

I've been working out - bodyweight, yoga, hiit, weights and alternating that with the couch to 5k program - so i can gain strength and endurance and just general fitness. That's been going well but the diet has been a struggle. I'm planning to hit that hard in January. Thinking I"m going to give keto another shot!

Everything you mention are all good goals. I fail most of the time. I need to try to loose some weight again. In the past 6 months I've gained some weight back. I need to exercise in order to loose weight.

I agree about Pinterest boards and constantly organizing them. I have found some old pins that are no longer to active pages and I have begun to save the pages as .pdf and put them in folders on my laptop instead. I do go there to search before I google though.

I agree about old recipes and making way for the same in the new. For instance, so many of my recipes in my stash use cream of chicken soup or other soup. That can of soup has who knows what in it and I haven't used those cream soups in a long time. A few weeks ago I learned how to make cream of chicken soup on my own for chicken and dumplings and I loved it! I quickly made it again and froze it for other recipes.

We can do our best and try-- and if we fail, we can start again :)

Felis....I believe the key is to always keep striving, keep trying. Most of us fail at some point or another, but then you just keep moving forward again.

Great ideas here. We're going to be decreasing the amount of meat and grains that we eat and increasing fruit and veg. We went through the Whole 30 program last year and took away some good things from the program but I don't want to have to be that restrictive on a regular basis.

I just saw that the Pegan 365 Diet (paleo and vegan) is this year-round diet plan at doctor Oz show. Bunch of information have on their site. Bunch of information have on their site.

I had a health scare in 2014- with my blood pressure shooting up and staying up. That was a wake up call! I decided to make real life style changes- including losing weight through better eating and regular exercise.
I ended up losing 66 pounds over the next year and have kept all but 5 pounds off- Ima work on those 5 pounds this year, LOL.
I do a lot of cardio and want to bump up some resistance and weights this year!

Good for you for changing your health. It's been almost a year for me and I'm happy and maintaining my weight and better health (same weight loss as you, I'm at 66 lbs gone now too).

Feels good, doesn't it? :)

I just hope that this enthusiasm wouldn't disappear with the end of January!

For now I'm grateful to Rae and Chris that keeps me stick to the yoga.
I looks like more that the girl with the sweater by the Adriana Rodríguez León's illustrations, but hope soon to have progress!

I'm sticking to my keto this time around and feeling good with it. I didn't really think the "being in ketosis" was that big of deal until I had a carb heavy but still gluten free pizza and knocked myself out. I was sluggish and had to fight cravings for a few days. Hopefully won't do that again lol

I'm almost finished with the couch to 5k program which I don't know if it's actually turned me in to a runner or not, but I gotta admit I feel better on the days I run than the days I don't.

Have lost some weight since the 1st, so very excited about that.
