Musicals

Have you seen a musical?

I never liked musicals much. Always wondered why you had to tell a story in songs and music.

But yesterday I watched my very first show, Anastacia.
and guess what, I liked it very much!

Anastasia was one of Maya's fav videos and we watched it over and over again when she was young. Now that it is a musical it was a great choice to go and see it. The story is not the same as the film but the basics are.
We listened to the music the days before the show so we could recognize it.

Have you ever been to a musical? Which one did you see are would you like to see?

While I haven't been to any musicals in a long time, I have seen several - Les Miserable, Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar come to mind right away. Of course the music is always compelling but there is something about being in a lush music hall to make the experience so special.

I remember when I was teaching PreK, we had a dance teacher come on and she had all of these dances choreographed to the Anastasia movie. I would have those songs stuck in my head non-stop. :p

One of the nicer things about living an hour from New York City (without traffic haha!!) is that I have been able to see a lot of musicals and shows.

Lemme see...
Cats (waaaaaay back when, 1991?)
Beauty and the Beast
Wicked
Rent (multiple times)
Tick, Tick, Boom (twice)
Next to Normal
Ragtime
There is more, but I can't think of anything else at the time.
Rent is my favorite one and I was lucky to see most of the original cast in that. I was able to see Idina in Rent and in Wicked and OMG- her voice...
I wish I had the money to see more of them cuz it is an expensive day to get in the City. sheesh

I see there are a lot of musicals left for me to go and see, but maybe I will first look for a video version, to see if I like it?

I have seen Les Miserables in NYC and a few times here in Ohio. I also saw Wicked in NYC as well as one called Jerome Robbins' Broadway (that included scenes from a number of musicals he's directed or choreographed, like West Side Story). The video versions just aren't the same.

I love musicals! The latest one I saw was Wizard of Oz. I'm hoping Santa will bring tickets to Les Miserables this year.
