MRI scan results and Specialist

Hi Everyone I know I have not been around much lately due to the fact that on Tuesday May 18th I had my results back from an MRI scan taken at the end of March I have for 53 years suffered with back problems after having a bad fall when I was 18 down some concrete flat steps holding my 2 babies tight so they would not get hurt my back took the brunt of the fall having been told back then my back was only bruised no Xrays were taken then when I was in my 30's I was nursing and taking a patient to the bathroom where he started to slip from the hoist which I had to crouch down to support his weight he was a very heavy person this tended to make my back worse and was retired on ill health over the years I have had Physio ... Osteopath... Accupuncture Manipulation and pain meds and still my back stayed the same a couple of years ago I had a bad fall in Italy xrays were taken but no xray was taken of my back then on boxing day this year I spilt some fat from taking the roasters out of the oven onto the floor I was mopping it up when I felt an agonising sharp pain it was sciatica my osteopath very kindly saw me on Boxing day and gave me Accupuncture and manipulation which helped but then I noticed I could not feel my wee when going to the toilet I could hear it but not feel the sensation so I phoned my doctor who asked me to come in straight away he gave me a rectal examination to see if I had .....Cauda Equina Syndrome which means .....
Cauda equina syndrome is a rare and severe type of spinal stenosis where all of the nerves in the lower back suddenly become severely compressed. Symptoms include: sciatica on both sides. weakness or numbness in both legs that is severe or getting worse. numbness around or under your genitals, or around your anus.
I was sent to A and E straight away after 12 hours examined again and told it was not serious my Doctor also requested an MRI scan on my back which I had on March 28th and now after seeing the specialist on Tuesday May 18th he tells me I have a fractured disc pressing on the nerve which is giving me more pain it is near the coccyx and that I need an operation so by now I am in shock a little he tells me I have to walk with 2 sticks or a walker and walk a bit everyday if I dont do this the nerve will die and he wont be able to operate he also said there was a back log of patients needing surgery on the NHS to 2019 he saw me at my local hospital where he only visits once a week so he said he would send me an appointment to go and discuss more at his hospital which is one of the best reputed hospitals in England where they specialise in spine operations I will hear in about 2 weeks we mentioned going private and are thinking this will be the best and quickest way to get my operation....I will update as soon as I hear anything ....I wont be commenting as much however I will still enjoy joining in with some of the challenges as some of you know Just Art is my Home I hope to continue on there for as long as I can and still pop into my holiday home here at Oscraps as I call it. Thank you for listening.x

OMG Poppy, my medical English isn't what it should be, but that sounds terrible. Guess the back log situation is as bad in the UK as it is here ... so much has been put on hold due to corona ... and the medical staff is getting exhausted. This pandemic will leave traces way past it's time. Having said that - hoping you will get help ASAP. Get well!

You just relax and do what you can and have the strength to do. Oscraps is still here when you are ready (Trust me ... I know, since I've just come back after a 5 year hiatus!) And of course ... I'll see you over at JA.
