May Art Journaling Challenge ~ Week 2 {FORTITUDE}

Welcome to Week 2 of our May Art Journaling Challenges. This month's word prompt is FORTITUDE. What a powerful word this is! In my preparation for this week's challenge, I've been so moved by the imagery and quotations that I've found. First, here is one of the dictionary's definitions of the word.

fortitude /fôr′tĭ-too͞d″, -tyoo͞d″/

noun

Strength of mind that allows one to endure pain or adversity with courage.

Power to resist attack; strength; firmness.

Similar: strengthfirmness

That strength or firmness of mind which enables a person to encounter danger with coolness and courage, or to bear pain or adversity without murmuring, depression, or despondency; passive courage; resolute endurance; firmness in confronting or bearing up against danger or enduring trouble.

I created a mood board, using some of the quotations I found on the web and photos I found on Pixabay I hope this sparks some creativity about the word FORTITUDE as you begin to think about what you'll create this week.

You can choose to do a single page, double page, tag, TN each week, or use a divided template—one part for each week. If you don’t have the Divided Template and would like to have it, you can get it here at Dropbox. Thank you to Ona @wombat146 for providing the template choices for us! If you use the template, we would love it if you post incrementally: post one done in the first week, post an image of the two together on the second, and so on until the finished page in the fourth week.

Again—the template is NEVER a requirement, just something fun and different if you want to use it.

Challenge Rules:
  • You have until 11:59 p.m. CST on May 31 to complete your pages for this challenge.
  • To qualify for the drawing, you need to use 80% Oscraps products that are currently in the store (non-Oscraps products or retired O designer products can be used whether the designer is selling elsewhere or not).
  • You need to credit all the products used on your page.
  • You cannot use a page you create for this challenge for another Oscraps challenge.
  • Upload your page to the Art Journal Gallery and then add your layout to the challenge thread. (Below you will find instructions on adding your page to this thread.)

Adding a linked layout from the Gallery to a thread:
  • Upload your layout to the gallery first. In your forum post, click the Gallery Embed icon (little camera).
  • This will open your gallery; simply click on the layout you require, then scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click the Continue button.
  • Your linked layout is now in your post; the image will appear once you have clicked the Post Reply button.

Everyone who participates in any of this month's challenges will be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift certificate to Oscraps. You can receive up to four entries into this month's drawing.

Your mood board rocks!!!! I love it!!! Here is mine - the fortitude it takes to swing with the changes that happen in parenting. I was inspired by the definition of the word that Cheryl shared: "Strength of mind that allows one to endure pain or adversity with courage."

The May theme of fortitude really kept my attention.

The journey to begin to learn a way of living without my soulmate was not fast or easy. Taking 2-3 steps forward to seeing some good things then a step sliding back into sadness. And slowly realizing that there was a turn-around to more good days than bad, It was okay to accept the sadness but also to rejoice in the good memories. I began an album of memories of my journey without my love which soon included pages of memories of our lives together. The pages in the album let me see the gradual shift from overwhelming sadness to a life of finding some good and happiness not only in memories but also in living each day. My phoenix was finding that I was beginning to accept both sadness and joy as the days passed and she would rise to live with both.

Of course I also added it to the template

I'm SO happy that my mood board inspired you, Susie. Because you are The Queen of Mood Boards. I love the quote that particularly inspired you and I think your layout expresses the ups and downs of parenting. LOVE the sweet photos and the photo techniques that you used. What a powerful word and you have used it to perfection!!

Oh my goodness, Kay. You just summed up this "journey" so well and I'm so in tune with how you said it. I love that you're building on The Phoenix and your Divided Template is amazing so far. I'm so happy that you are embracing these challenges. I know they have certainly helped me in my "journey".

Thanks for the challenge, Cheryl! Today is a day of remembrance for me.....I know you will understand.
This is so moving and full of love, hope and definitely FORTITUDE, Vicky. Your blending is superb, as is your journaling and those tear drops! Hugs to you and yes, I certainly do know what you're feeling and going through, my friend. Sending you lots of cyber hugs. :heartpumpred: :heartpumpred: :heartpumpred: :hug1:

I did it @pachimac Grunge added and I'm still here to tell about it. It didn't hurt one bit :giggle4:
You were right again. It was fun once I let it flow.

You DID do it, Tracy!! It only hurts for a little while, then you'll have to add the grunge more and more. Beautiful layout and I'm heading to the gallery right now. :heartpumpred::heartpumpred::heartpumpred:

My layout for this week's challenge is added in Post #1.

It's a little "different" but I was deeply inspired by the one of the quotes that I used on my mood board. Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in a prison cell because he wouldn't denounce how beliefs. That poem spoke to me and I used it as a springboard for my layout.

You are ALL creating some fantastic layouts for this week!!! I'm a little bit slower than usual, but we've had some "things" going on - family wise. "Life happens" sometimes.
