How do you cope with the heat?

It looks like much of the Northern Hemisphere is going to be experiencing record heat in the next week or so. I am in New Jersey which is notorious for its humidity but even here we are getting heat warnings with temps over 90* and 95-100% humidity.

I used to go to a local lake/beach when the kids were little and even as a guess of one of my friends more recently. I *love* being down the shore but that gets harder to do. But for the most part, I don't mind being outside as long as I have lots of water to drink. I think I am going to see if I can get my one dog, Whisky, to splash in the tiny baby pool we have. She loves to swim in the lake but it has algae bloom so the lake is closed.

How hot is it by you and how do you stay cool?

I don't, I just can't! I hate heat, so in some moment prefer to stay awake at night and napping at the hottest part of the day. The pretty of work from home life :fish2: .

I was outside for an hour doing some weeding yesterday. I was fine but when I came inside, it felt amazing to take a nice, cold shower.

That is smart to nap when it is the heat is at the worst. Hope that it cools off soon.

I take my walks very early (about 5:30am) and then have a cup of hot coffee as soon as I come in. The coffee, oddly enough, seems to cool me down. Then shower time and the rest of the day stay inside. haha I'm so thankful I can have my car inside a garage so it doesn't get hot in case I have to dart out during the day, briefly.

We have been in the low 90s, for a few days, but Tuesday, we are supposed to have a high of 76 and I cannot wait. :) Then we are back in the low-mid 80s. Not too bad for the latter part of July!

in Belgium we also get another heat wave the next few days ... early last week it was rather cool 20 ° C - 68 ° F - the weathermen give up to 38 ° C - 100 ° F for Wednesday and Thursday ...
I am definitely not someone who can take a nap during the day ...

We have no air conditioning in our house .. it will be puffing and blowing and ... drinking water ...
tomorrow I do my shopping - the following days mainly salads are planned - so that I don't have to go outside much ...

Danesa, that is so strange to me that coffee cools you down. The last couple of mornings, my coffee made me break out in a sweat :(

Marijke- yikes- that is a huge shift in temps for you. I am like you. I can't nap during the day, they make me feel worse.

I was outside again for over an hour yesterday working in the yard, pulling weeds. I was sweating quite a bit but it wasn't bothering me. I wish I had a pool to relax in, might be a nice change from yardwork LOL

Any outdoor activity is done in the morning or evening. Otherwise it's air conditioning and swimming pools! Normal july temps are 100+ but we've been lucky and only in the 90's for the most part. Today was in the 80s! Unheard of!

We have been so dry for two weeks but Monday an all night rain and all day yesterday rain we are looking mighty green today. :) Yesterday, our high temperature was 66! It was an amazing reprieve in middle July! Today we are back to 79. Still not bad. :) I'm trying to prepare for all the heat in Florida, next week. :) A trip to the beach is on my list for sure...in the early evening for their beautiful sunsets.

Very hot here too !
Yesterday 38° C = 100 F .... today is expected a little more 40° = 104 F ... but not sure we make the difference : it's definitively too hot !

The most hot day will be tomorrow as they say ...
I am lucky : whe have installed the air conditionned last year : and i am so happy about it ! My computer is upstairs under the roofs, and otherwise using it is just impossible !

Today in my region 39.92 ° C
tomorrow is expected a little more 40° = 104 F .

I manage here with a swimming pool that has been set up, I am only afraid of nature and the animals that suffer from the heat. We as humans can or try to cool down (for those who don't have to work: D)

I saw a lot of headlines this morning that the EU is going to be experiencing more record-breaking temps. How many more records have to break before those in charge do something???
