With the holidays coming closer, how far are you on with the preparations?
Did you bought new party clothes ? Are there presents under your Xmas tree? Menu for Christmas already finished or are you invited to eat somewhere with Xmas?

Christmas Eve will be a fondue for hubby and myself and then Christmas morning we always have Eggs Benedict and Champagne and Orange juice. Christmas Day will be just the two of us and face timing with the kids and grandkids. Later in the day the In-Laws will join us for dinner and we will have the traditional turkey with all the fixings!! They will stay the night and we will have a nice breakfast together, we are not really doing gifts this year as we are hoping to fly to Mexico sometime in January. It will be a quiet Christmas for us. Hope to have my sisters over this weekend for drinks and appetizers. All presents are bought and sent to where they need to go. A pretty stressless Christmas for us this year!

On Xmas Eve my family comes to dinner ... my mom, my sister and her hubby, my son with my daughter in law and my granddaughter ..

we're starting with cava with some tapas

celeriac soup with smoked duck breast

scallop pan with crayfish

wildboarstew with homemade croquettes, apple and pear with cranberries, Belgian endive, beans with bacon

we're ending with coffee, xmasbuche and icecream cake.

For the packages I have some time ... we give presents on New Year's Day

I still have boxes and bags and stuff all over the place.
My cards are still in the Shutterfly envelope and I don't think that I am getting them done. You can't see my counters since I have ingredients and bottle and jars for making my Faery-Wings products for gift baskets and gifts.
Some cookies are made (some disastrously!!) but I still have several more batches to go.
The tree is up and I have some decorations out.
Some gifts are wrapped but a lot are not.

As I was just writing to Scott's GF's mom, Christmas is a 2-day free for all holiday, starting at 3pm Christmas Eve at my mom's house, for appy's, dinner and Santa on the firetruck, then over to BIL's for more food and drink, then home to collapse. Christmas morning, we do gifts, then I have the family over to my house for gifts and more food, and all of this ends at 8pm when I collapse again.

I can't wait for December 26!!!!!!

Did you bought new party clothes ? NO

Are there presents under your Xmas tree? NO, our tree is still in the box in the attic, but we don't do presents so that is easy

Menu for Christmas already finished or are you invited to eat somewhere with Xmas? NO/YES, not finished and we have our first Christmas dinner/buffet this saturday and I am supposed to make/bring dessert.

I'm never ready it seems. I too have cards that should go out just sitting. Gifts are pretty much under control. We wrap and display ones to each other on Christmas eve and open in the morning so that's fine. Dinner will just be us in some variation of roast or steak dinner.

we've finished our shopping and only partially wrapped everything - i need to get that done lol.

we'll doing the Christmas dinner at the inlaws so I won't have to cook anything (in other words, won't be allowed to do anything which is kinda nice lol)

O sO silly
Hubby doesn't like decorations much but I will just put a few lights up maybe. I don't like my flat and we don't have space to put a tree so I'm not motivated to do anything. But I found gifts for hubby and he helped me buy the lens I wanted so we are ready for gift exchange ;)
Actually he still thinks I gave up on buying him the razor he wanted cause it's too expensive. I hope this will stay a surprise until last minute :giggle:

I'm a little bit ashamed but aside from decorating the tree, I never do anything for Christmas. I always was lucky to have a busy mom and (3 years) a busy MIL

I little update from me- I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel! It took me long enough as it is the 21st. hehe!!
But I put away the boxes of decorations that didn't make it out and I am tossing the Christmas cards in the garbage. I will email it to the Exchange list as post it on FB for everyone else, but I don't have the time/money/energy to write them out.
I am learning-- scale back when necessary!

But the tree is up, gifts are (almost) all purchased, most are wrapped, and Cait and I are baking today, so I think I am tipping the scales in my favor.:)

definitely scale back when necessary!!!!! this is supposed to be a beautiful time of year, not stressful :) and beauty doesn't mean "perfection" it means finding beauty in your beautiful but imperfect world :)

I'm pretty much done here and super excited about that!

the presents are bought, (I think) and I sent every one to Ft William yesterday to go foodshopping so I had some peace and quiet.
I have not done any cards yet either,I'm just not in the mood . The people that are important to me know I wish them a happy christmas and new year anyway.
Doing up the tree always gets done on christmas eve at this house, they still have to dig one up first though.
We're having friends over this afternoon and tonight I'll do some baking or probably tomorrow.
Boxing day is at some friends so that saves me cooking one day:biggrin:

That is a fantastic way of looking at it.
Yesterday, I was in a total tizz because I lost one of Scott's gifts. I know it was delivered and I know that I saw it but either my house stole it (it is known to do stuff like that!) or I threw it out by accident (I am also known to do stuff like that!). I have another long day ahead of me and I am going to do my best to keep those very wise words in mind.

lOve the O!
The tree is up, we had Christmas with both boys on the 14th. I did not send or make cards except to my O fam- (oops) Since we moved far from family, are not enmeshed in the community, and our boys live busy lives far away, Christmas has changed very much over the years. This year we are going to visit with family between Christmas and New Years, not sure what the meals are. I am working at embracing change!
