Have you seen that the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral is on Fire!!! OMG it is so sad to see!! My Heart is so sad for the people of Paris!! They think it started from a Renovation that they are doing on the Cathedral. :hurt: I am so glad that we got to see it when we did last year!

I watch TV, the fire is still not out.
The roof is totally burned and/or collapsed.
Horrible vision

I know! I have been shedding tears over this!! To think that my grandkids will never see it in its glory is just so tragic! We saw it last year with our son and his wife and it took my breath away!

I just the saw the news about the fire. My heart is breaking. I remember being in awe when DH and I visited Paris and went to the cathedral. So breathtakingly beautiful. So glad we got to see when we did.

We were watching a bit of the coverage at work today. What a tragedy; a building that has stood for centuries likely gone in a day. We were hoping a lot of the treasures from inside the cathedral had already been removed for safekeeping during the renovation. I hope it can be saved.

What devastating news!! We didn't get to see it on our trip there in 2012 but I had always hoped that I would do in a future visit!! Such an enormous slice of history gone, just so sad!

It truly is so sad. I was there when I was 16 and was in awe and at that age, I didn't appreciate it as much as I should have. Seems like this morning there is some good news, that the windows and gargoyles were saves as well as the religious artifacts.

The video of the crowd signing hymns was really touching. If you haven't seen it, you should look for it...

Hearing conflicting reports about the stained glass windows. I am hearing that they were most likely melted by the heat of the fire. Such a loss!!

My sister will go to France next month, she wouldn't be able to see this beauty.
She was plan to go there few times, but the tour agency was advised her to hold on, because of the protests there, which often affects tourist traveling with their own car.
This is why you shouldn't postpone too long, for some things can become too late.

Our hearts are with all Parisians! They will renovate it, and this will be new chapter in her story, but... it never wouldn't be the same! As a beautiful lady with plastic surgery, pretty but no authentic.

This was most shared pic in my IG story today

Here news said different thing. The most important artefact are been saved yes. But many vitrage and bells are lost. Also few paintings showed signs of smoke damage.

The signs behind that are many and in different directions. Some said it's happened because the defenders statues was taken down for renovation; other makes parallels with the bible and The Parable of the Talents on Great Tuesday; Victor Hugo also wrote part with fire (I'm read the book long ago and honestly didn't remember this).

I read this today: An art historian explains the tough decisions in rebuilding Notre Dame
It looks like a lot of the building is going to be ok. But there are now fascinating (to me at least ;) ) philosophical decisions to be made of how to repair and reset the design.

Do you repair and improve the structure and design? Do you repair it to where it was when it was first designed? The part I was most interested in was do you keep the history of it, such as the damage done intentionally during the French Revolution?
Should it go back it's original iteration or as it follows through history?
I love those perspectives and will be interested in how the process plays out.

For sure, so many differents things are said !

I heard nothing about damage on clocks.
The vitrage are not lost. However , it will take several days to make real dignostics and see the parties that have suffered either fire or the huge amount of water spilled - this applies to walls, vitrage, numerous works of art.
I am impressed and positively surprised by the desire to rebuild, and this great impulse of solidarity and union in misfortune. As if we always needed a misfortune to find unity and to " feel together "
I hope this feeling will last and give great impetus to the country, we need it after months-years of grumbling, protests and disorder
I am also impressed by the worldwide generosity !
Our lady will be rebuilt, the wills are there to do it as soon as possible: it is a great challenge !
