So, I'm typing away this morning and uh-oh. Something's wrong. I keep trying to type, but it doesn't feel right. Aha! One of the keys on my laptop is gone! There's just this little rubber "nub" sticking up and it's on the "c" key. Now the conundrum starts. It was working and intact last night so what happened?

Just then, I remembered that my cat jumped on my keyboard last night, just before I got ready to go to bed. I never let him do that, but he surprised me and kind of came out of nowhere. Of course, I told him "no" and scooped him off and set him on the floor. Bingo! His claws must have pulled the "c" key off. Now, where might it be? It's a little tiny thing on a dark wood floor, after all. I got my flashlight and voila! it was on the floor, under my desk, back in the corner. How DO those things move so far away?

So, what to do? I could type on that rubber "nub" but it's annoying, or I could go online and see how to fix it. I did the latter. It's a pretty easy fix, it turns out. To make a short story long, my "c" key is fixed and is as good as ever.

Have you ever lost one of the keys on your laptop/computer? Were you able to fix it?

Oh for sure, that has happened a few times over the years and I have always been able to click it back into place. :)

My problem now is that the letters have rubbed off on the keyboard, the E has completely disappeared while the A, C, V, N and M are on their way out! lol! :giggle4: I was thinking of using a white permanent ink marker to draw them back on so hope that works! As a typist I 'know' where the keys are so it really doesn't matter and hubby doesn't use my keyboard at all. It was only a cheap keyboard I purchased about 3 years ago....... maybe that is why it was so cheap!!:lol23:Hmmm, maybe I could swap it over with hubby's next time he annoys me, that would teach him a lesson!!! :floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

Yep, the little sucker just clicked back into place. Have you seen the stick-on letter/symbols? Mine were starting to rub off so I ordered a whole set from Amazon. It's a time consuming task, but I got new white stick-ons and they're a little larger so I can see them better. Old eyes and all that jazz. :floorlaugh:

EDITED: They're black with white letters on them.

My "S" key is constantly falling off...not kitty related...just keyboard frustrations....lol Glad you found it!! Flashlights, duct tape, and clear shower curtain liners are my go-to for any situation that needs to be fixed :giggle4:

Edited to add: Ummm....I just read what I posted and I sound like a serial killer..........LOL Seriously, I use all three things to fix differnet situations, and no one dies because of it :yesss:

Well, I haven't used a shower curtain liner yet, but duct tape is a must have and of course, my handy dandy flashlight. Adding to my list - a pocketknife or two. :floorlaugh: :knifehead:

That's never happened with my keyboard. But I have lost my contact lenses so many times. It's impossible to find a tiny sliver of clear plastic when you need the lenses to see. Bwuahaha!

Note to self: Never look in the trunk of Jenn's car.

Ona, I have the same problem... the E R T A S D F C V N letters have all but disappeared on my keyboard. I am a touch typist, too... so can type without looking at the keys. The keyboard is one that came with DH's computer (about 9-10 years old) so think it is time to get a new one. :floorlaugh:

I had that happen several years ago on my computer... and I don't have a kitty to blame it on.. I was able to snap it back on.

Welcome to the club!!! :giggle4: this was happening all the time with my husband keyboard and actually became an everyday activity for 3 or 4 of my cats. Sometimes I caught them deliberately ripping off the keys, they looked like they were enjoying it. We found ourselves missing around 10 keys. They were difficult to find and ended up breaking a key socket. It was necessary to change some keys and take measures to prevent this from happening again. The solution was an acrylic keyboard cover. dance4

Oh wow! I've never seen one of these, Ana! My husband needs one of those. The cat is on his desk a lot and he isn't as strict as I am. I'm usually in the middle of creating a layout, so I've never let him on my desk. The other night, he shocked me by jumping up on my keyboard. Thanks for sharing this!

I hardly ever use the "W" but when Melissa was using my computer for gaming, W was one of the keys she used all the time. The damage I do to keyboards are rubbing off the letters on the. home keys and the r and e!
Ahhhhhhh. So that's a gaming key, huh? I remember when you were sharing a computer with Mel.

This new laptop I will have to share with Michael when he goes to train shows, but that's only a few times a year. It's not like sharing every day with a gamer kid!!!

I actually have a piece of clear shower curtain and 2 large rocks that I keep in my trunk!!! :floorlaugh: My car is a convertible Toyota Solara, and about a year ago the back window shattered while we were putting the top down, so I have to cover it with a tarp after I am done driving it so water and bugs don't get inside. And when it is raining and I HAVE to drive it, I cover the back seat with towels and put the shower curtain liner below where the window should be and hold that down with two large rocks so the liner doesn't blow away! It's very frustrating...but getting a new top installed is too expensive for us right now so I am just living with it...:gloomy:

BTW, the shower curtain liners are way cheaper than tarps, so that is usually my first suggestion to Tim and the kids when they need to cover up something outside :lovey3:

OH!! Zip ties are super handy to keep in your trunk, as well...and bungee cords! I PROMISE I am not a serial killer :haloslip:
