Ah! I'm so sad that the Netherlands AGAIN are not in the finals!
It's a lot of eastern europe countries that are in the finals. Or am I wrong?

Vicki, here's some info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2012
Or let Eva explain it to you LOL
I can only tell you it's a song contest what is going on every year. The country that wins can host it next hear.

The netherlands is doing an awesome job to stay out of the finals :(

Now you see the UK's tactic is to do quite well most years but try not to get the top spot - although I notice from the wiki list of past winners we've come 2nd an amazing number of times, always the bridesmaid!

Did our current favourite old crooner Engelbert get through?

UK is one of "the big fives" that don't have to compete in the semifinals. UK, Italy, France, Spain & Germany are guaranteed a spot in the final. Also, the last years winner are guaranteed a spot in the final.

I really like Engelbert's song. I think it's one of the best this year. But it might be that UK usually send crap songs, so we don't expect much ;)

Ok, never heard of this. what on earth is it?

It's the closest I get to idolatry LOL

Quote from eurovision.tv:
"The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the longest running television shows in the world. It was on the 24th of May, 1956, that Europe saw the first ever Eurovision Song Contest. After 56 runnings, the contest is one of the most typical European traditions and without doubt, Europe's favorite TV show!"

EBU (European Brodcasting Union) has been hosting this show all the years. Almost all nations join, but at times some don't (Like this year Poland isn't cuz they are hosting the European Championship of soccer this year, and decided they couldn't afford both). Most countries have national competitions first, to select which song should represent their country. Here in Sweden it's a HUGE event with five semifinals, and one final.

ABBA got their international break because of the ESC. Also Celine Dion, Cliff Richard and Julio Eglesias have competed in ESC. Did Riverdance find it's way to the U.S.? That was a huge success one year when the final was in Ireland.

The big final (tomorrow) is broadcasted live all over Europe, and everyone can call in and vote for the best song. Usually the rest of Europe (i.e. everyone but me) have terrible taste and the wrong song wins :) This year it's a bit exciting, cuz many betting places have Sweden as most likely to win. It's a great song - but not the best. But I'd love for it to win! I want next years final to be in Sweden. Here's Sweden's song this year:
