... because I definitely don't. When I first started working and had to get up at 5:30, I used to put my old-fashioned alarm clock - the one with two bells and a thingy in between - on a baking tray in the kitchen, so that the noise was guaranteed to wake me up. As years went by, I - slowly but surely - got used to heeding the sound of my alarm clock.

Nowadays, approaching 50, I have realized that I now wake up 5-10 minutes before the alarms goes off... Somehow, I didn't notice when it started, but... oh, what a pleasure it is to NOT be jerked out of sleep by a sound - however soft and gentle it might be. This - waking up naturally - might be just a little thing, but it has had a tremendous effect on the quality of my mornings.

Anyone else can relate?

I've never been a morning person. I've been a "night person" my whole life. Even though I worked for years and also had to get up at 5:30 and also set alarm(s) that forced me to get up, I don't like getting up early.

I am definitely not a morning person! When I was in school MANY years ago, I did something similar to you, Olga. I put my alarm clock on the dresser next to my bedroom door. That way I'd have to get out of bed to turn it off and since I was already at the door, I just kept going out instead of going back to bed. I never got into the habit of hitting the snooze button because of that, either.

Nowadays I use my phone as my alarm. It's nice because the volume starts off quiet and gradually gets louder. Much more pleasant than getting blasted into wakefulness!

I have an app on my phone that has a pre-alarm setting. It lights up the screen over the course of several minutes, and the sound starts out nice and soft. It's all customizable, too—I think it's called Light Alarm Clock.
It's one of the few ways I have to control my aggravation at waking up with an alarm when I need one.

I'm definitely a morning person and wake up around 5am every day - without an alarm or even a place to go. That said, I'm definitely not a night person and can't function well once it starts getting later in the evening..... Like 8:30! :D
Funny thing is, even when I was in Australia and the time was 13 hours different and night and day were reversed I STILL woke up around 5am, crazy, I couldn't figure that one out!

I am a night owl. I love staying up late and sleeping in. But life and meds have changed me. Now my alarm is set for 7 a.m no matter what day. Every day. I have been doing this since 2020 and my body is adjusted. I stay up until 11 or 12 still reading in bed but I am up at 7. My alarm is soft tinkling sounds (iPhone alarm) and I dont wake before it and I dont hit snooze. I dread getting up some mornings but my body does so much better if I keep it on the same schedule no matter what. When I travel I make sure I am up at 7 even with time change and keep the schedule. Its amazing what the consistency does for every aspect. I dont get going for my day until 8:30 but I get up at 7 and quiet time of coffee and O. Then at 8:30 the kids wake and we feed dogs and start the day. Body function is so much better on schedule.

I used to be a night owl, but have turned into a morning person. Do I like it? not necessarily but my body has made the change. I set an alarm for 4:15 am 3 days a week to go to the gym, 20 miles away. I used to. go in later, but by the time I got done most of the morning was gone and there is more traffic at that time, plus I enjoy early morning people there more. I wake up to Christmas music year around and ready for bed at 8pm.

you wake up to Christmas music all year round??? Seriously????

I think I am an early riser but 4:15 to go to a gym is insane... lol... your days sound long though, which is nice... not much's happening at my house after 8pm, but I never seem to be able to go to bed early...

Consistency IS key indeed... when my kids were young, I used to get up 30 min before them just to have a quiet coffee and some me time before all hell broke loose... you dread getting up and yet you get up without hitting the snoose button... wow... that's hard...

I love this! Does it make you feel happy, like Christmas? I have a little mantle clock that gently chinmes soft Christmas music, a different carol each hour of the day except through the night. The first year we had it I didn't want to waste the batteries so decided to leave them in until they ran out. Which they did almost 2½ years later when the songs began to warble! I found that I liked hearing the music, first off it reminded me of the hour and secondly, it gave me a warm Christmas feelings at times, all year 'round.
And as I was typing "Deck the Halls" just played for 11am! :xmas2
