k.. I'm fairly new to digi. I think I might be hooked, the more I play, the more I learn... the more my "paper supplies" collect dust. I can see my paper becoming obsolete.. *gasp*! huh?.. k.. maybe not totally.

What I'm REALLY hooked on, is BUYING digi supplies!!!:D haha.. maybe even more than the actual scrapping part! haha. I can buy it, and in two seconds, have it downloaded, on my computer, ready to play!! *Eeek*!! SO EASY!! .. I just want it all!!;)

.. has this happened to anyone else? .. think it's just the convenience of it all that I'm really liking!

:) Ahh...nothing like that instant gratification!! LOL! I know exactly what you mean! When I first started dabbling, I downloaded every freebie I could get my hands on! Free?? Download! :) But then...the buying began! Oh my...it is SO easy to justify a little $3.00 purchase here and there and before you know it, you've got $25 in your cart!! :) Yep...definitely know what you're talking about!! (BTW...is it wrong that I'm so excited to hear that your digging the digi so much??) ;) Oooo...be on the lookout for NSD sales, too!! Lots of deals!! (I'm such an enabler!) :)

Know exactly what you mean Amanda........... I was only telling two of my DIL that they could have my scrapping supplies............ its been nearly a year now and I haven't done any paper scrapping and it is just gathering dust! LOL! They are beside themselves with excitement LOL! and I have to agree, I love the buying just as much as the actual scrapping part! I had PROMISED myself that I WOULDN'T buy anything this week and here it is Friday and I have spent about $50 aaaaaarrrrggh!! I hate to admit it but there are some kits that I haven't even used........ at least hubby can't see that I have been buying, I don't have to sneak anything into the house anymore! LOL!

well I'm STILL dying to own it all even after 3 years of digi scrapping and having 200 Gig worth of supplies!!! I still want the new!! So don't feel bad! My biggest advice is since you are just starting out with the digi side...FIND AN ORGANIZING METHOD NOW!!!! It is soooo much easier than trying to go BACK and organize everything later!

Love this thread! I've just come to grips that there are certain aspects of digi-scrapping that I get so much enjoyment out of that has nothing to do with actually scrapping, lol! I tend to "collect" stuff and "scroll"! I used to feel guilty about buying kits and not using them, until I realized how much I enjoyed just looking at them! Sounds crazy...I know!

It's definitely addictive! Enjoy your shopping!

ha ha! LOVED reading these responses!! So, you're telling me this might not ever end??!! ha ha!! .. that's alright.. I can see myself becoming a "scroller" too.

.. and ya, the organization thing, I might be going a little overboard with that actually.. I can open one "designer" file folder and it can branch of in several different directions. I think once I use things a bit more and get to know what I like and don't, that I'll be able to figure out what kind of organizing is gonna work for me best.

.. and my son has already noticed I've been "scrapping" on the computer and has been eyeing up my paper scraps! hee hee!! I'm NOT ready to part with those yet!

I love the fact that I can "hide" my purchases from my DH - who sits a mere 2 feet away from me, but as I know my credit card numbers off by heart (oh dear - just goes to show quite how often I use them!) I don't even need to reach for my purse each time. And never mind guilt over my digi supplies, I feel EXTREME guilt everytime I spy my paper supplies! I do the odd paper LO now and then (like I did 2 last year!), like a Christmas album, but in all honesty, this was mostly digital then I made the sleeves with my paper supplies.

I now have enough stash from Oscraps (never mind anywhere else) to be able to say I probably have all the supplies I need. But then a new kit comes out and it's got that something special about it and I just want it (Hollie - I mostly blame you for this - LOL!!!!). And then the sales come around and OMG......

One thing I would say though, when I first started I went mad downloading freebies, checking the freebie forums everyday and whatnot, but I almost never use these supplies now mostly because the quality is not generally as high as purchased items. Now these bits are just using up space on my hard drive.

Another thing.....do all the challenges here - practically every one of them has a freebie attached and many offer participation gift certificates also. That's what got me hooked on Oscraps in the first place and now they can't get rid of me - hehehe!

Welcome to the Dark Side!

Totally agree with Selena about the not so good quality of a lot of the freebies.......I REALLY have to go through and just get rid of them, don't ever use them! LOL! about knowing your credit card number off by heart!!! I am not THAT good yet but I am trying.........and trying........and...... LOL! and it certainly is the DARK SIDE Amanda but WOW what a lot of fun it is!!!!! It's Friday afternoon here in Aussie land and I am just about to log off my work pc and go home and NOT LOOK AT ANY MORE THINGS TO BUY ON OSCRAPS!!!!

LOL!! I I think most digi-scrappers can relate!!
I sold most of my paper supplies to a teacher last year at a garage sale for $25, stickers, run-ons, stamps and pads, paper scraps, Fiskers... I kept most of my paper b/c that always comes in handy for the kids school projects.

ITA with Selana-- The O always has challenges going on, coupons/freebies, they have chances to win kits by posting inthe O SO Inspired Galelry or O So Happythreads. And you can always think about being on a ct-- nina is having a call right now.

OH YES!!! My God!!! I wish somebody gave me this advise when I started!!!
NOW I am using ACDsee, but it crashes a lot :( there is another program?
I love HYBRID and I am a Card Maker, so, I still use my regular stash but not nearly as my digital...I am by now, completely addict!!! and love EVERY MINUTE of my addiction!

I use ACDsee as well...but I'm thinking of trying Adobe's bridge since I have it...as you say ACDsee crashes alot and maybe I could clear it off my system and make more room for digi supplies (not like I need them :))

I am a huge collector. :) I just love it all. But - I make myself scrap a page with each thing I buy. I have my stuff organized so that before I put the item into it's special folder within my "Shops" folder, I must scrap with it. Otherwise it sits in the Supplies folder with the other organized folders (for my CT's, Shops, Templates, Alphas, etc).

When I paper scrapped I was even worse. I need to find a good way to get rid of all of it!

...loves her some "O"
Okay...I sooo have opinions about all of this!! LOL!!!

first off, Lia, the sales will mostly be on Saturday, National Scrapbooking Day, May 2nd! :) look for Ads to be posted soon and in your Haps newsletter on the 30th! yay!!

Second, I LOVE digi scrapping and always will!! but my heart is still with paper!! I recently reorganized my craft room, and promptly scrapped 5 LOs in a weekend. (you can check out my BLOG to see!!) I love to lift paper LOs digitally, and lift digi LOs with paper!!

For me the digital scrapping helps me to scrap fast and be with my family while I scrap! then when I need to escape, i run to my craft room with my laptop, of course, and scrap with paper!! yay!!

I will say that when you've been digi scrapping for sometime, you get really peeved when you can't resize an element IRL!! LOL!!!

As far as organizing....hahahahaha...my digi files are in three catagories:
NEW STUFF TO SCRAP WITH
OSCRAPS designers
everyone else (much smaller folder!!)

There are sub catagories, but I figured you could figure those out!! LOL!!

Wendy, i totally loved your scrolling explanation!! heehee! Tali, I totally do what you do...scrap with something that I d/l hopefully pretty quickly!! I have two kits that I need to scrap with...one that I just took pics for today! heehee!! Do you guys do that? take pics to go with your kits???? or is that just me???? LOL!!

just my two cents! LOL!!! and Amanda, when you have digi scrapping to back you up, you'll be more apt to open up that craft room door to your kids!! Or you can do what I do...invite my children to digi scrap!! heehee!! (right, lainebean???)

I'm an Adobe Bridge user and I haven't had any of the problems some people have with it crashing and apparently losing stuff. The program crashes about as often as any other program (like hardly ever, but it can happen), but the difference being that I've never "lost" anything as it's really just a storage facility, not a "doing" program like Photoshop. I tag all my new kits as I buy them. Tagging the papers is easy with keywords, but you can't tag .png files with keywords so I use labels & ratings - I just had to think up a system and stick to it, so for me, all flowers are tagged with ***, all frames *****, all ribbons/stitches are green, all wordart blue etc, etc.

Hope that helps.

I want to start using the Bridge too, but I don't know to use it so well...the ACDSee has the good thing that you can see what is in the folders without the need of open each one...like I have a Kitty folder and it will show me like a preview of each kit inside, but the adobe bridge doesnt have it, or I didn't find it, and I need to open the folder and sufolder to see what it's inside and it takes me so much time compare to the ACDSee...any advise?

Are you a Mac user Yam?

If so, in Finder there is a way to do it, but it was rather blurry and now always easy to see. I found far easier to use Finder in CoverFlow mode, then the spacebar will bring up previews on screen. I use a combination of Finder & Bridge to look at stuff, but if I want to actually search for something I use Bridge everytime, as my tagging scheme is contained within it.

If you're not a Mac user absolutely none of this will make sense!!!

Well first Amanda, welcome to the dark side :)

Selena, you are too funny!!! - I am having a big NSD sale. Those who have signed up for my newsletter will be ahead of the game ;)

I use ACDSee. I couldnt scrap without it. I have lots of catagories and cross reference things many different ways. I wish I had done this from the get go. It took several months to get my 1T drive tagged....yeah, I REALLY like to shop! LOL.

Sally , thanks for the information about NSD ! I'm preparing my wish list and saving some space in my hard drive ;) !

Selena, I do use Bridge too (I'm a Mac user... so ACDSee can't help us). I like your idea of using labels and tags for the PNGs files... I have to try it ! I believe you can use keywords for PNGs files in the Bridge that came with CS3 or CS4.. if someone could confirm it would be great !

Yam, using Bridge you have to create keywords for your stuff. I have my kits organize in folders by shop/designer/kit (so I can look trough the folders anytime without any order program). In Bridge, I create keywords for kit preview, templates, papers and wordart ad categorize them... when you want to find something, just have to go to Edit > Find and define your criteria.

I suggest you try it with one folder and see if it helps you. I really use it a lot !

OH, yes, it happens! It starts innocently enough. Maybe you're online looking for a font to print out journaling for your "paper" layout, or browsing for 'real' supplies. That's what happened to me. One click was all it took, which led to another and another LOL. Insanity set in. I bet I have purchased and d/l'd more in digi-supplies than I had amassed in paper ones (and still have gathering dust). I'm not even sure how many GBs of stuff. I have one 320gb EHD full and need to purchase another.

I need to get rid of all my old supplies, I would have soooo much more room in my hobby/bedroom.

All I have to say is, welcome to the madness, Amanda!

For any PSE users....the organizer is awesome....it allows you to tag and create a folder system. I'm slow in tagging...because I tend to try to be too detailed. And...I can't keep up with my shopping!! lol! I shop faster than I can tag!:D

Before you really load up, has anyone told you about the NSD sales?! Huuuuuge sales next weekend!

Where can I find out about the sale here?

If you are signed up for The Haps at Oscraps, most of the designers will have ads in tonight's edition. The remainder will go out in Thursday's issue. If you don't currently subscribe to The Haps, you can sign up on the main page of the shop, scroll at the way down to the very bottom.

Here's the link:
http://www.oscraps.com/shop/home.php

Enjoy your shopping spree - the sales here are going to be GREAT!! :)

I LOVE the organiser.......it just makes it so easy to find and then be able to just move it into the Editor. LOL! I hear you on the 'shop faster that I can tag' but I MAKE MYSELF tag everything before I use them! That way I feel I have SOME control over my addiction! LOL! :D
