Happy Hump Day!
I might have to break this post into smaller sections or I might end up disappearing completely. My internet and phone keep going out.

And on top of it, Facebook is really wonky too.
What a start to a day

Good news- the weather turned out nicer than expected and I was able to spend some time outside in the yard. Then my neighbors invited us and my other neighbor who I am good friends with over to their house for pizza and beer for dinner. And then I got that great news about my friend Joselle (if you didn't see the thread, she is getting married to a wonderful man, who makes her very happy unlike her rat of an Ex.) So it turned out to be a good day for me.

Gary is really sick- and I don't know why- could be a good herx. Scott got his progress report- How can you get F-'s!? I don't know how to help the kid. Cait is doing ok- she dyed her hair red (temporary) and it looks really cute.

Today I am off to clean. Maybe that will inspire me to work on this house. It is getting bad. I "maintain" but it really could use a good scrubbing.

Ok, going to try to post now....

whew! Going to go for personals now....

Ona- you crack me up! And 57- DAMN girl- you look awesome! I am older than MMG but only by 10 months so it doesn't really count :p
Fingers crossed that you keep on drying out!

Sandra- I hear ya, things like all day out just put me "out" for a while too. And LOL at YMG comment. Eh, men all only large kids anyway hahah!

ME- your cruise sounds wonderful! And the "why" stage.... I love it (now that I am not going through it. or at least I am going through it in a different way as in "why?" "Because I said so.")

Dawn- LOL- that stage is starting to show itself her eand there w/ Scott. I am gonna be in for it!

Ok, so far so good ;)

LindaW- awww, I am so glad you joined us here. I love this thread every day, love getting to chat with everyone. :) Hope your perfectionism doesn't get the best of you if you scrap today.

Sara woo hoo- I love your long posts. It sounds like you got a heck of a lot of stuff done! Wow! And add me to the "you know it in your gut" when you find the right house. If I listened to my gut more often or more closely, I'd be much better off hehe.

Sally- if you see this- get off the computer and go be with YMG!!!!!! Nah, JK! Hope you had an awesome time out with him.,yay!!!
Wow- I can't believe you made all the way until June w/o missing a LO. That is just amazing!

*gentle hugs Clara* Hope that you back is better today. Did the x-rays show anything?

Joslyn - you sound great! Chase does too:) I did that with Scott when Cait still needed to nap. They shared a room, so I made him lie down for a half hour, That way, she would be asleep, and he would get some down time (and I did too!)

Dawn- ITA with Sara. You always have such a great spirit. I love reading your posts.

Well, it is that time again!
Have a great day ladies!
xoxoxoxoxo

Anyone have WWW?
I wish I wasn't in pain..... but it will be ok.
I also wish my O-fam has awesome days!

Hello....

Another night of "very little sleep"...seems to be the norm for me at least 4 nights a week....my stupid doc says I am not going through menopause yet...well...he doesn't know a d@#! thing!!! When I read the books...they wrote the freakin things about ME!!! There is not one symptom I don't have...oh well....I am still determined not to take anything for it. I am not sure what my day has in store for me just yet...My DD has a dr appt this morning...so I am watching the little ones for a couple of hours...but the rest of the day......hmmmm....get back to you.

Since we are on a "posting mania" I got to most of you yesterday except for...

Joslyn...sounds like the little guy is settling right in...your third time around...you are a pro by now ;) I don't blame you on the "quiet time"...if my Grandkids are with me all day...I make them take a nap, or quiet time...they need it!! But when they start school and stop getting it..they usually drag butt for a while...but they go to bed at night so well!!

Ona...Yay!! Congrats on your win! oh, your DH is seven years younger than you...mine is seven years older...and sometimes, he acts like he's 20 years older....he stresses too much, and acts like he has one foot in the grave...but just sometimes...most of the time he's a worker bee and when he is playing with those boys, he acts like a 5 yo! LOL!!

Dawn...yipppeeee! Outback....yum! sounds like a FUN night...I miss those from my working days...I haven't worked in 8 years...I don't miss the work..but I miss the fringies...so happy that you had a great day and feel so much better!!...now go have another one today!!:p I don't really consider myself miss fixit, I just try to jump in if necessary...doesn't always turn out to good...but so many things people don't realize, are just easy....you just have to try it....

Hope everyone else has a great day too!

and Chris...glad you had good weather..and sorry about your DH being sick..poor baby! {{Hugs}} to him!! you should show us a pic of your DD with red hair..too cute!! and slap that pc around a little...that's what I ended doing yesterday to my "old dino pc"...didn't help...but made me feel better!! LOL

gotta run...

and slap that pc around a little...that's what I ended doing yesterday to my "old dino pc"...didn't help...but made me feel better!! LOL

gotta run...

LOL!!!! that always makes me feel better, too :). Just watch and don't do it too hard it's a little hard to explain if you accidentally break it ;). Um...not that I've done that.....

Don't work too hard today Linda, try to get some rest and scrapping in, too! (((hugs)))

Good morning O precious ones :)

Hope the day/night finds everyone happy and well! I forgot to tell y'all I finally got my knee xray'd yesterday, haven't gotten the results yet but should today. My dr thinks I have a fractured or very bruised patella...of course I've only been walking around on it since...oh April 22 or 23, LOL. I wouldn't even have seen her but I keep hitting it on things and oooooooooh my does it hurt and of course riding the bike with DH is not so fun right now. She said no riding for a while dang it. hehehe we'll see. If it's not fractured I'll keep on going I just wanted to make sure. I'll just keep on popping the good ole Ibuprofen and doing my thing :).

So, this weekend I'm hoping to go get my peepers checked, it's overdue and I'm going back to contacts I think...at least parttime...that way I can wear cute sunglasses when DH and I are on the bike ;). I miss that. The rx ones I got are dog ugly, LOL. I guess that sounds a little vain, Huh?? I'm not usually like that at all, but really, look at some of my layouts and you'll see what I mean, those things are U-G-L-Y!

Personals next :)....oh, Davy is being a monster this morning but he says Hi!

Chris-Hi sweetie! Woohoo for good weather and beer and pizza, 3 of my fave things :). Hope Gary feels better! LOL, you just wait, Scott will be giving you heck for some time to come I'd imagine, just keep remembering it's a stage and they all go through it to some extent. Maybe his won't be so bad! Don't work too hard!!

Linda-Yup, Outback was soooo yummy! I never go there except when one of the reps take us out so I really pig out when I do ;). Hope you have a fab day!

Hope everybody has a day filled with happiness! xoxoxo

good morning! Went to school with Will this morning as I had a little goodie bag for Will's teacher... she really is just the sweetest thing... we haven't been real happy with the principal lately... as you know Will is considered to be accelerated... he's reading at a 3rd/4th grade level etc... well the principal has decided to get rid of the split classrooms which Will has any and did it without any input from the parents about how they felt about... and her plans are to get rid of the accelerated program altogether within 3 years... check out what she sent us http://www.sandersville.fcps.net/menu/newsletters/prolet.pdf - I was SOOOOOO not impressed, and am actually quite angry about the whole thing...

anyway, we're off to Boyd Orchards this morning to meet up with friends from ballet class to go strawberry picking... Piper LOVES strawberries and so does Matthew and since we're taking the summer off from ballet, it gives us something to do... I'm also going to take the kids to the library and get them started on a summer reading program...

my last day of babysitting is tomorrow, although I am planning on going back to work... I've applied for an office clerk position at a local high school... but if I don't get that then I'll try to do retail nights/weekends... I don't want to go back, but with our new insurance taking $200 plus out of each paycheck, I just don't know that I have a choice *sigh*

Chris - Gabe is worse than Will sometimes LOL... hope Gary feels better soon!

hi LindaW, Ona, and Dawn!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi all! Nothing terribly exciting here. Just wanted to pop in and say hi!

Chris - sounds like you've gotten a bunch of good news! I hope that continues. I'm sorry to hear that Gary's sick again and that Scott is still struggling. I'll bet Cait's hair is super cute!

Linda - Sorry to hear your dr. doesn't believe you! Isn't it his/her job to *listen* and think? Hope you can get some sleep soon.

Dawn - hope your knee feels better soon. Take it easy!

Sandra - How frustrating that the schools aren't focusing on the kids! Have fun at the orchard! I wish I could get DS to eat colored fruits - I know he'd like them!

Hi to all who post after me. Have a great day, everyone!

what a bummer... strawberry picking didn't happen... he poured the freakin' rain! so we went and let the kids play at the McDonald's playground LOL.

Dawn....so sorry about your knee...but isn't just like us women to be walking around in pain...just doing what we need to be doing....Take care of it!! Prob need to be off of it!!!!!! and NO WAY is it too vain about your sunglasses.....I have glasses...actually just got my first pair of bifocals....but I wear contacts out of the house...and I own 10 pair of sunglasses....FLOPS and sunglasses...the key to summertime cuteness!!! and they are cheap!! so get some sassy ones and take us some pics!!!;)

Sandra....well...I would be writing a letter to that dang school...makes me angry just reading it! WANT ME TO WRITE A LETTER FOR YOU???? I get a little fired up and I write letters or email EVERYBODY!! Our local newspaper probable has me email addy on ignore...TV stations too!! LOL..hope you guys have fun picking strawberries....I used to take my girls...I need to take my little guys...they would love it...Thanks for that inspiration...good outing for us to do!:D

Kehfrog...NIIIIIICE to meet you!! :)

Meet Ginger

Hi everyone, it's sure been a while since I popped in. I just wanted to say Hi and share a new addition to my family. Meet Ginger! She is a lhasapoo and weighs only 4lbs. She is keeping me off of my computer. :) She is so precious and smart and stubborn. ;) She is keeping me on my toes. She is very alert and doesn't sleep well during the day and wants major attention. She does however sleep during the night with only one potty trip. Yay!!

AWE Merkee....how precious!!!!!! We don't have any animals...but I swear those pics make me want to run out and get a sweet little dog like that:)

Ok..it has brewed up one heck of a thunderstorm here...it looks like night time outside...the wind is blowing so hard the trashcans are all flying...

that's not why I came back...I just wanted to share this thought....

Since I have been scrapping (2 years paper...6 months digital), I had only made one page with myself in the picture....problem for me....but without even realizing until a few minutes ago, you ladies have brought out something in me that really allows me to let go of that a little...in one month, I have made three pages that include myself...THANKS for that:p

Good afternoon. I've been in a funk today. I think it is the muscle relaxers. I think they make me groggy during the day although not actually sleepy until later. Last night after dinner I laid on the couch and crashed for a bit. I couldn't get my eyes open to save my life. I have been meaning to write in here for awhile but instead I've just been hopping around online doing absolutely nothing. Tonight I have to go shopping for taco fixings. I am having an all you can eat taco feed on Sunday to raise money for Relay for Life. It is at my church but we can't advertise at the church so we are going crazy on facebook instead. I surely hope we get people there. I am hoping to feed at least 100 people. We'll see what happens.

Okay, I had a few notes...

Chris - Aren't those unexpected nights with the neighbors sitting on the back deck drinking beer and eating the best?? I love that.

Linda - I think you should see another doctor and also look into some herbal stuff. I know Black Cohash is supposed to help and there are a few other things that seem to help some people. You definately should hold off on hormone treatments if you can. They make you feel much better but are so not great for you. Check out some natural stuff though. It could help.

Dawn - you knew I would yell at you, right?? You didn't get x-rays?? You dork. I told you to get those back when you bashed it. I hope the report comes back good though. Did they take 3-4 pics? I hope they took more than 2 anyway. Don't you just love drug rep food? I used to get several lunches a week but the hospital I work for said we had to limit them because we have a limit as to how much can be spent on us in a year or something. I hate that we can't get pens anymore. I am almost out and have to use lame boring pens. Drug reps always have the best pens.

Sandra - Strawberries sound yummy. I hope you get to go soon. That really stinks about the principal. It seems weird that her say would be the only say. Seems like curriculum stuff like that should be run through a board or something like that. Weird. I'd be mad too. I'm glad you had a great teacher for Will this year, especially with getting him on meds and everything. It sure helps to have a good teacher to talk to about his progress.

Random - I just got a drug rep coffee from Starbucks and I got a Chai Latte Frappacino. Heavenly!! It is so yummy and I definately needed it.

Merkee - what an adorable puppy. I love Llasaapso's (sp?). I don't know about the poodle part, but she is sure adorable. She looks like a lot of fun.

OKay ladies...I am off. I want a nap!! I so wish I could get one of those.

Good morning!! for me that is!! Good evening for you guys!! It's raining again here and I am sooooooooo not impressed! my car looks like its gone in a mud rally, there is mud and gunk everywhere........no point in washing it though, it will get just as bad again when I go home tonight. Nothing exciting on my horizon today, my manager is coming to visit today so that should be fun......she really is a lovely lady and we often have a rave and a giggle when we talk to each other on the phone. No doubt she will take me to lunch so that should be nice!! So I had best away and get my office tidied up a bit, at least clear the spare chair so she has somewhere to sit! LOL!!

Dawn: LOL! about the avi and not chaning very much!! its two years old and I have put on a few pounds since then...........have had a lot of thyroid probs. and had to have it nuked last year so finally it is settling down and my weight gain has stopped...actually lost 9lbs between Sept and Dec last year and even though I have gone off the rails a bit I haven't gained any of it back so it looks like I am getting back to 'normal'.......whatever that is!!

Clara: I have had similar experiences with the pain killers........I don't like taking them for the same reasons.......REALLY strange dreams and feelings........I can't understand how people get hooked on them either I'm afraid......no doubt taking the pain away may be better than having the spooky dreams I guess! Hope you are feeling better though!

Chris: getting together unexpectedly with people you like is always great!! sometimes its better than the ones you actually plan!! and good news about your friend, you sound so happy for her.......from experience it is lovely to find a special someone after being with someone that was a real ratbag!

LindaW - hey girl! just listen to your own body!! or look around for another doctor. I have been through my meno, nearly at the end and am feeling so much better. A couple of years back I had the doc telling me that there wasn't anything wrong with me too. Went to another doc who actually listened and has helped dramatically.......I had to go on HRT but Iam easing off that now which is great.

Sandra: that's bad news about the rotten weather setting in. Hope it fines up for you real soon so you can go strawberry picking! that sounds so much like fun!! and that stinks about the school changing their procedures so drastically. I'm with Linda, write them a letter ....... they need to know that some consultation with the parents is needed when big decisions like this are made!

Merkee: I can't see the pic cause I am at work so will have a look tonight on my home pc. going by the comments your new little addition is adorable!!

LindaW: forgot to ask if you survived the storm!!? hope it wasn't too bad.

Hey Sally, ME, Josie and Tali..............hi to you all!

Anyway, best go, hope everyone has a great night! cya. Oxx

Awwww, Merkee, that pic of Ginger with her food bowl is simply adorable!
What a little doll! I can't wait to see some layouts of her :).

hi LindaW, Ona, and Dawn!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Sandra-that really, really stinks about Will's school wanting to cut the accelerated program! We have a local 14 or 15 yr old girl who just graduated from UK have started to college there at the age of 11 I believe, I wish I could remember the whole story darnit. She is going on with her studies but just imagine if she hadn't been encouraged? With her inquisitive mind she would have been so bored in 'regular' classes going at the pace of students at the level she was expected to be at. I would just hate to see Will held back and not allowed to advance at his pace, I'm afraid a lot of times that sets kids up to fail. I agree with LindaW. Time for a letter writing campaign ;).

Sorry your strawberry picking got rained out. We had storms here in the Western part of the state as well :(, still raining in fact.

Well, the plain x-rays (yes, Clara, I had 4 films LOL A P & lat, and I knew you'd fuss at me hahaha) didn't show any fractures or bony abnormalities which I am thrilled about!!!!! Of course that doesn't explain why my dadgummed knee hurts LOL, they didnt' even show degenerative changes or osteoarthritis which I was surprised about, there were some 'decrease in joint spaces'.My dr isn't there on Wed so I will have to ask her tomorrow what's next. She said the other day that she would probably have me get CT scan or MRI which I hate to do because my insurance does not pay well on either one, then send me to ortho. We'll see, more than likely I will just live with it now that I know it's not broken ;).

Ona-I hate that you are getting rain again! Goodness! LOL about your car looking like it's been through a mud rally :). I hope you had a lovely night/day!

LindaW-Remifemin, it's over-the-counter take one twice a day. It works, seriously! It helps with hotflashes, mood swings, all kinds of the menopausal stuff. I can't take hormones and my dr recommended it. Thank you for being so sweet about my knee and glasses/contacts! You are such a wonderful friend :). It really stinks that your dr doesn't take you seriously about the menopause, no one knows your body better than you!

Kehfrog-Hi! nice to meet you! Help me out....what's your real name if you don't mind sharing...just your first name :).

Love and hugs everyone! I've got to get some scrapping done!

Dawn - am I that predictable??? Well, yes. I know. :) Good, I am glad they got all 4 views of your knee to check out the patella itself and the tunnel all your ligaments and stuff hook onto. So, it didn't say anything major, huh?? That is a good thing, even if a pain in the butt. If you need something else done it needs to be an MRI, A CT won't give you any better info. That sucks you have crappy coverage. I'd hook you up if you lived here. I hope it starts feeling better soon.

Chris - I'm sorry about Gary and Scott. I hope Gary feels better soon. I don't know what to tell you about the grades. You are a good mom who is trying everything she can. That's so hard and I can't imagine how frustrating it is.

LindaW - I'm convinced that girls should see girl doctors and boys should see boy doctors. =) You just don't understand some things and how they feel until you've been through it! And I'm so glad that we helped you bring out the best in you. =)

Dawn - Every girl needs a cute pair of sunglasses! =) And I understand about the knee. I usually don't go to the dr. The wrist thing was a big exception. Ibuprofen is wonderful. I have it stashed lots of places.

Sandara - I have a special entry for you next. =)

K - Hi!!! (Waving)

Merkee - Too stinking cute!!

Clara - I hope you got past the tireds to go shopping. And I really hope your fundraiser goes well. Mmmm Chai Latte....(On a side note, I think they did run it through a board...it says it was passed by the "SBDM". Probably the school board....)

Ona - I love reading your posts. Your language can be so fun and different to read. =) I hope you and your boss had a good time.

Dawn again - glad your knee isn't broken.

I had another good day today. Worked a little, "worked" a little with my friend. I say worked because we always seem to get distracted too much. =) Made another good dinner and played with Ben. Found out the daycare lady is taking vacation the one week this summer that I really need it. I'm so glad I decided to make the switch in August to a real preschool. Ben's been gobbling up all the educational stuff I've been doing with him, so I really think he's ready now. DH made a funny comment last night about he could get used to me being a SAHM or PTSAHM. I laughed. But said I could get used to it too. Tonight we both said the same thing. He asked later if I'd really be interested in it. Part of me thinks yes. Part of me thinks that is a little anti to what I believe in....(That every school should have a full-time Media Specialist.) I don't know what to think about that. It is a little tempting though....

Anyway...I'm finishing up my margarita while DH gives Ben his bath. So, I thought I'd post. Technically, I've been posting for quite a while now..but I'm finally getting around to hitting submit. =) Hopefully, you all read this. Especially Sandra! =)

Be prepared for a tirade everyone..
Sandra - Hmm...I'm not thoroughly impressed with the phrasing of the letter you received. I think it leaves a lot of detail and explanation out that could have been provided to help ease your mind. (And frankly, some of the language seems a bit unprofessional.) How are your standards administered? Are they developed by each school district? Or do the students take a standardized test? I'm curious how they have determined that most of the students are "proficient" or "distinguished". You could also check out the state of the schools report card and try to see how your particular school performed. Although, if each school district administers different assessments, that can be a little skewed. Where does this achievement data come from? I would ask to be provided with a copy of the overall data that they are basing the decision on. Will the flexible grouping be fluid for each classroom? Meaning...how often will they be reassessed and grouped? If it's only around quarter time, that may not be as individualized as it should be. The paragraph about what they expect to happen if a student masters the curriculum is really important. It sounds like they have really good intentions and plans here. But I'd be interested to see if that differentiation truly takes place in the classroom. In my jaded education experience, it takes truly exceptional teachers to be able to accomplish that. And on a side note to that paragraph...just how exactly do they gather data on work ethic? Blind placements are stupid and don't work. And in the next paragraph they say that placements are made by committee decision of teachers and that placement requests are accepted. Huh? That' s not blind placement then. That's really confusing. I would also be curious to find out if they have plans to provide High Ability instruction if it is determined to be needed. 27 is a big class size. (Not as big as 30 or 31 as is sometimes the limit...but still big.) If needs of High Ability students are not being met, what is the district plan to provide services? Certainly they are not eliminating Special Education services, so what would you do for those students if this differentiation plan fails to work? All that being said, I would be willing to place a bet that state aid and funding is forcing some of this to occur. And it is certainly an idealized approach to meeting the needs of all students and create a learning environment that is truly ideal and student centric. That's pretty optimistic though, if you ask my opinion. I would make sure you stay on top of it with Will and ask to be shown the assessment data quite often. How often are they assessing and what assessments are they using to determine if he is meeting is potential or not? I hope it all works out.

/tirade =)

okay...sara...first off, your editing reason is the best i've seen yet!!!

second, i second what you say...and go a step further to say, who is it anywhere that sets the standards?

I mean, i had an argument with Mr Gorgeous' cousin about whether or not having a GED meant you were a good-for-nothing slacker...LOL!!! I mean, who determines what is accelerated or not?

okay...that was just my tirade! LOL!!! I'm thinking we are doing okay here...but this very issue is one of the reasons I homeschool. I know not everyone has that choice, but I am thankful and grateful that I do have that option. So if one of my kids is reading above average and one is below average, I can push each child to success (whosoever's definition of success i deem fit!).

oops...looks like i got on another soapbox...just practicing for my homeschooling conference this weekend at which we are selling our new CDs!! heehee...

Sandra, we are all standing with you, doll, that Will gets the best education ever!

I wanted to address everyone who commented on my rant about the principal... let me explain the assessments...

DRA (developmental reading assessment) helps teachers identify a student's reading ability and level, document their progress, and tailor teaching to drive effective reading instruction. DRA tools allow teachers to assess accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. This quick and accurate assessment will: build students' reading skills and confidence by identifying their independent reading levels and helping teachers match students with appropriate text; deliver immediate analysis and instructional suggestions to group student appropriately and better address their needs, and target critical points of intervention and compare student progress against benchmark expectations with easy-to-use data analysis.

This DRA is administered 3 times each year - at the beginning of the first semester, at the end of the first semester, and at the end of the second semester. To be on grade level for 2nd grade (Will was in that 1/2 split) Will had to be at a level 24... Will tested at a level of 38.

The proficient/distinguished assessment comes from the PAS Score. Founded by Vanderbilt University, ThinkLink Learning developed a formative assessment known as Predictive Assessment Series (PAS) that assesses student progress toward meeting state standards for reading/ language arts, math, science, and social studies. The tests are preconfigured and analyzed by ThinkLink experts to provide teachers the prediction of mastery, proficiency, and adequate yearly progress (AYP) that is so critical to monitoring student progress toward Kentucky's Core Content (curriculum goals). The benchmark tests are administered in the fall, winter, and spring. Each test is carefully constructed to mirror and match the Ky. Core Content Test (KCCT). Will scored distinguished in all areas.

Our school is run with a site based council or SBDM which is made up of both teachers and parents. The change from the split classes to straight grades has to be approved by the SBDM. From what I've heard, the members were not given a choice to keep the split grades - they were basically told (railroaded IMO) they had to approve straight grades. As for accelerated placements, you can read more about that here http://www.sandersville.fcps.net/menu/sbdm/Policies/PlacementProcedure.pdf

As for the letter the principal sent home, I was not impressed either, and it created more questions than it answered. Basically our teachers work in teams. So for example, when it came to reading, Will was grouped with other students at the same level and went to a different classroom for instruction. I told her that I was not happy nor impressed with what she said in the letter. I also stated that Will had been pushed to perform and master 2nd grade work the entire year, and I didn't think it was fair that he was basically repeating the same grade again (while the classes were split, the kids were considered to be in the higher grade all year). I also told her that while the expectation was that all the students should perform at proficient or distinguished, this was really unrealistic and that the kids who are considered accelerated would be held back if they got rid of the accelerated program. Another thing I addressed was that I thought the families of the children in the split classrooms should have had some input about changing from split classes to straight classes. The principal felt that it input from the parents wasn't necessary as the parents don't have any control over placement issues and that while she will try to honor placement requests, it won't necessarily happen. She also told me that the accelerated 2nd grade teachers will work with the 3rd grade teachers to produce plans in reading, math, etc. to develop plans to meet all the students needs to ensure a full year's developmental growth for every student.

I suppose a further explanation should have made me feel better, however, I still feel she didn't address a lot of the questions I had... Will and I talked about what was happening and he said he would like to remain in Ms. H's class (his teacher for this school year) if he could, and frankly Gabe and I both agreed that we would feel better if he remained in her class because having been her homeroom parents, I was really impressed with her teaching style and ability and know she will push her students. So I did ask the principal to keep will in Ms. H's class if she taught an accelerated class and the principal did honor it.

I was more upset when the summer packets came home and it made it seems like it was required that all kids basically do summer school all summer. I also emailed the principal about that. There was a letter from her that did not come with the packets that says it is voluntary and that parents were upset that summer school was not an option... so the packets were being sent home to assist parents who wanted a summer school type option. Kids who do complete the packets will get a special cookout, water-ballooon fights, and other games during the first week of school and Will says that he wants to do them. While they are packets for a 2nd grader, I plan on trying to do things at a 3rd grade level and even 4th grade for some of his reading. I've told Gabe that we will give it a year, but if we see that Will is not benefiting from the straight grades, I would like to be given the option to homeschool and this would include Piper as well. Gabe is not real keen on the idea of homeschooling at all! So we will see how the year goes. After talking with the principal I know that rather than the "within 3 years" to get rid of the accelerated program is not actually true... she is planning for the accelerated program to end at the end of the 2009-2010 school year.

My children's education is VERY important to me... I'm not going to sit by and watch my children suffer because of her actions. So if necessary I will go to the superintendent, but I will give her some time to see how it plays out and will do all I can from home to ensure that Will is getting what he needs.

Well you do have reliable assessments for the main assessments there. DRA is a good tool. What are they going to use to assess for the flexible grouping style approach? Do they have leveled reading assessments they use? Running records? Are they going to rely solely on chapter work and unit assessments? Just things to look for.

That's good she honored your request regarding Will's placement. Around here, most schools take the standard approach of "parent placement requests are not accepted". Most districts around here rely on the teachers discussing students and attempting to place them in the best environment that they see. (Of course, my back-asswards district doesn't even do that...but hey...whatever.)

I'll be interested in hearing how things work out Sandra!
