Happy Thursday, and if you are reading this a bit later, Down Under, happy Friday!

Thanks everyone for the b-day wishes for my pook. She seemed to have a great day. She is a Peer Mediator as school and yesterday was her first training session, along with about 15 other 8th graders. They had donuts for b-fast and real (as opposed to cafeteria) pizza for lunch, and no classes all day long.

i don't know if other schools have this program but it is a way to help kids who are having peer conflicts or being bullied work things out with the help of other students. It is supposed to encourage more openness and less fear of punishments/stigma. NJ also has a new and really strict (and IMHO- over the top) bullying law so I am sure that they have to incorporate that as well. The part of the law that I don't agree with is that if their is any bullying done between students even outside of school- not on school property, or on school time etc- that is has to be processed according to the law. I think that they are trying to get to the core of cyber-bullying, which is commendable. However, i think that this oversteps bounds and removes parents from the picture.

Back to Cait's b-day.... ;) she loved he gifts- a new make-up mirror and some cool wire desk organizers for her make-up brushes and stuff. The cookies were delish and so was the chicken if I do say so myself :D
I am off to work at MIL's today so no scrap time for me.

Temptation on Thursday
i want to book another trip to disney, even though I have no money to do it. Isn't that what credit cards are for????

Morning all - i am happy to have the day off. I have spent the last two days trying to long distance support my nephew and his soon to be wife during my SIL end days. That has been exhausting, although I feel like I am doing something constructive. So today is cleaning, picking grapes, mowing lawn and after dinner- dance practice.

Good morning!!

Real quick here today. I am starting my volunteer work at the hospital...FINALLY!! I'll be there about 3 hours. This whole process is really to try and help me get a job so that it isn't ov er a year since I took an x-ray. Hopefully it s like riding a bike. LOL!! I need to be a rock star to get a job because I am not the only x-ray tech volunteering. There are not enough x-ray positions in this area. It stinks.

Anyway...I've got to go and dry my hair and finish getting ready. Have a great day everyone.

Early am for me today. I love the fall days when the sun doesn't wake me up! When he's home, dh is up just after 4:30am so I get a nice lie in just dozing in that twilight zone. Come winter I kind of go back to getting up at 6am but right now, I can easily sleep til 7.

I put the a/c back on last night cause it got so muggy. I wish the temp would drop just about 10 degrees cause I think I'll have to keep the summer clothes out a bit longer. It sure makes the bedroom a mess when I've already started putting some piles out to stick in the cedar chest and then....no I still need them.

Getting ready for a week in NYC is all I have to do today. Got some groceries last night for the train ride. Poor dh flys in tomorrow at 10am and drives home, packs for NY, and then we drive back to the train station which is at the airport for a 12:30 train. Cutting it close...I will not be surprised if he somehow manages to fly home tonight!

Chris, sounds like yesterday was a good day. I don't know what peer mediation we have here in MD. My days of working with legislation are blessedly over. I do know that if we had good parental involvement we wouldn't need most of the laws! Really sad.

Laurie - Picking grapes? to eat? to make wine? I'm intrigued!

Maureen- I think I am going to try to make jelly- more grapes than I can eat- amazing all the rain we had this year, last year one bunch of grapes, this year hundreds. Oh and MMG means My Mr. Gorgeous! Have fun in the city- I have not been since my babies were born- nearly 30 years. MMG has family in the city.

Good Morning my fellow scrappers! Sorry for missing you yesterday but I was running late and couldn't post.....I get to train employees on the use of an online service for viewing their payroll checks today and tomorrow.....whooo hoooo.....

Chris don't get me started on rules and regulations that are imposed by government local or federal. In my humble opinion they are too involved in our everyday lives and take away our "rights" as parents. I could go on and on about this, but will stop at that comment.

Laurie - lucky you to have the day off....I need about a year off myself.....hee hee

Clara - WOW I'm surprised that with your skills some hospital hasn't picked you right up! Goodluck on getting your foot in the door that will lead to a full time job.

Maureen - sleep in what's that? Looks like you are pretty organized in getting your seasonal clothes put away.

Good luck with that training- we have that- all it means to me as an employee is that I never- ever see my paycheck-I do know the amt deposited via my bank and when I do need to see it or print it, I lock myself out and have to ask the payroll people to resend me a start up password- can you tell I locked myself out AGAIN this weekend and had to wait until Monday to print a paycheck!

and changing the password everytime because you log on so infrequently- grrr- love it when (this is what happened last weekend) you get into the site with your password, then it tells you you have to change it and you use the same password to change - follow the letter symbol number rules and it tells you you have entered the wrong password- GRRRRRR- glad I can help you folks keep your jobs though - never thought of it that way, thought I was being a pain.

Morning all... Dark and very :rain: here today. Last day of work this week, home by 2:30 and then its time to pack for our trip to Kelowna. Looking forward to this wedding and seeing everyone again. Hopefully lots of dancing!! New Dress, new shoes...hope the shoes don't hurt my feet!! I have been wearing them off and on just to break them in.

Chris - Sounds like Cait's birthday was great!! What a great Mom and Dad she has!!
I would go back to Disney again too, but it would have to be Disneyland, as Disneyworld is so far away for us! Such a long plane ride, but oh so much fun when you get there!!!

Laurie - How nice that you are such a good support to your nephew during this most difficult time!! Grape Jelly!!! Yummm!

Clara - I know that you will be a rock star at this volunteering, you will surely get some work out of this , they would be :loco: if they didn't hire you!! Have fun!!

Maureen - Awwww, sleeping in  I just love the cooler fall mornings also, you could just stay under those nice warm blankets for hours and just snooze off and on!!
Hope your hubby makes it home tonight so he won't be worn out for your trip to NYC. I have never been there, but would love to see it!

Frani - good luck with the training, hope your day goes by smoothly!!

Well better hit the shower and get ready for work, so hard to get going on dark rainy days!! Have a wonderful Thursday everyone!!

So, all done with the volunteering today. I only did about 3 hours, which I am going to try and do every week. They claim they need assistance on the evening and weekends but my husband is not happy about that and is ready to throw a fit. The x-ray department has been trying to pull one of his guys (but not the one he is more than will to give) for the evening shift and he says he'll be damned if they get on of his nuc med techs and his wife. So, Thursday mornings it is. It was so great to be back in a department. I hope it is just like riding a bike.

Chris - I am so glad Cait had a great birthday. That sounds like a really cool program she is involved in. I hope the program is helpful to the students.

Laurie - sending more hugs and prayers for your family. Watching people's life end is such a long exhausting and heart-wrenching process. I'm so glad they have you for support. Grapes sound yummy.

Maureen - Enjoy your trip to NYC. I have a cousin that lives there and I would love to go and visit him sometime. You know...I have no idea about the whole changing out clothes thing. in Washington I never had enough summer clothes to put away...and here we only need winter clothes for a couple of months, so most of them are just hung in my closet. I will need to have plenty of cool weather clothes for our Christmas trip to Washington this year though. One day I might live some place with actual temperature changing season...but I doubt it.

Frani - I love the way you put job security into perspective. I love it. The reason I can't get a job around where I live is that there are no jobs. In this area (Fayetteville, NC) there are only 2 hospitals in the near vicinity and so the people that have jobs don't leave. The good thing is that one of the hospitals is a military hospital and so there are always people coming and going. Hopefully something will open before the end of the year...but I'm not the only one volunteering either. I could drive to Raleigh...but it takes about 90ish minutes to get up there. That's no fun.

Trudy - Enjoy your trip. That is on thing that sucks about the NW is the dark winters...but I sure do love the long summer days. I hope you stay dry and enjoy your weekend.

i have to get better about addressing everyone else's day, not just talking about what I'M up to, since i see now how it's "done" here at The O! i promise i'll get less self-centered in my future posts. just got back from my Little Vacation. had a nice, simple, responsibility-free time of it. and someone made me breakfast every morning. now THAT i could get used to. how much do you want to bet that breakfast won't just magically appear in front of me tomorrow morning here at home?:eek:hwell::Cry:

I'm curious why you would need to print a payroll check if it's direct deposit? (I'm curious about a lot of things as you can see.)

When I was working, my paycheck was the same for a couple of years no matter what the hours I worked. That is the 'joy' of working 'at the pleasure of...' an elected official. No job security whatsoever no overtime etc. Fortunately I had a sweet boss who let me take time off whenever I wanted without using leave. That is very rare.

Sorry, I missed seeing that there was a page two of posts. This chatting is new to me too but as there is nothing quite as interesting as people, I love to read what y'all do.

Addressing everyone else's day is new to me too. I hope to get the hang of it soon. Most of the time I find myself so busy I don't have time to say a little something to everyone. Do know that I am reading and love getting to know each of you.

I'm extremely busy with work right now. My assistant is going to be out indefinitely because her mother had a stroke and she is spending all of her time with her mom. That being said I am dying on the vine here. Putting in about 12 hours a day. So, I really don't have much going on besides work.

I am excited because I go to the doctor tomorrow and get my stitches out. I had foot surgery two weeks ago. Wearing a boot on that foot too. Let me tell you that thing is big and clunky but allows me to walk. I'm a little worried about walking tomorrow once the boot comes off too. We'll see.

Clara- I manage a bunch of radiologists. We have no openings here for techs either. About the only thing available in that field are vascular ultrasound techs and MRI techs.

Phylis-when you figure out how to get breakfast to magically appear, let me know.

Maureen- new York for a week. I'm envious!

Chris- don't get me started on the school and regulations. I feel your pain.

Laurie- I have a sister with the same name, spelled the same way. Hugs coming your way.

Now I'm going to try and scrap a page. Have a great and relaxing evening.

Maureen- I have had to print it for several reasons- needed when we applied for a loan, needed to check how much was being taken out for FSA versus HSA- cause I can't keep track of that stuff for beans- I'm a therapist, not an accountant- thankfully there are programs that automatically take care of your checkbook balance! I also need to double check on my PTO to make sure it is accruing properly- mistakes happen too frequently where I work- always computer glitches. I am also salaried- which is not to my advantage by any means. It is easier for me to read a paper copy than on my computer screen- just one of my (many) quirks! Maybe tomorrow I will tell you about my sensory issues!
