I am doin' the fake it til ya make dance today.

I went to bed in a good mood. I was able to get a lot done again yesterday and the family watched A Christmas Story together at night. That is one of the big family traditions. But I have been awake since 4 am after having a dream (nightmare???) that Caitlyn and Brendan got back together and were discussing wedding plans. I guess this is worrying me more than I expected. I have to let it go and trust it will work out for the best. That isn't an easy thing for me. It is putting me in a bad mood.

I can remind myself again and again how smart she is. And I have tangible proof of that. Not that I need it, but I have it. The professor that wants Cait to present the research at a conference took her aside after class to let her know that she nominated Caitlyn for a scholarship. All of Caitlyn's professors gave unanimous support/letters of rec to go with the application. This is HUGE! Even if she doesn't get the scholarship itself, to have her professors submit her name for consideration, it is a true honor. I am so DAMN PROUD of my kids. Sorry for curse-yelling but I can't help it! :D

I have a few things to tie up around here and then I am cleaning this afternoon. Hopefully, if I keep myself busy enough I won't worry about Cait.
There is literally nothing I can do either way. She knows how I feel. :/

PS: On a funny note, both of my kids want to get drunk with me on the cruise. That will be ... interesting! Hide the :photo:

I should probably make these short. I can tell my brain is running a bit slower than usual ATM.

Kay- I hope that it is warmer today by you than yesterday. Right now it is 12* and very windy.
Gary -- while being a source of frustration on occasion LOL-- is my *rock.* Hugging him literally grounds me. Did you and DD have a nice chat yesterday?

Nancy- I hope that you stayed warm enough at your game yesterday and you weren't outside at all when that squall came through. Did it hit your town? One minute it was sunny-ish, then next thing the snow and wind and ice were flying around. Dumped about 2" in 15 minutes with a whiteout. It stopped right before Cait had to leave to babysit but we were watching out the window wondering if she was going to make up the mountain.
The dates are fine for Scott and he shouldn't have trouble taking time off of work. He is most likely taking the job at the Ecology center he is interning at after graduation. They want him to stay on for pay and will continue to help him network should he choose to move on. Win-win.
FIL got the family rooms booked at the concierge level which will be really nice! I will get spoiled.
Poor mice. I would have brought them outside too if they were still alive. SO far so good on not seeing any more in my house. *knocks wood*

Trudy- How long were you w/o power? Hope it wasn't long at all.
That stinks that hockey is so expensive. I have to agree with not wanting the boys to play hockey or football at this point.

Jean- your orchid must look so pretty when it blooms and fascinating to watch it as it goes through the process.
I will think of the cruise- and how warm it will be! My ILs love to travel and will spare no expense. The rooms that we have are midship with little balconies, so I can sit out there and relax and breathe the ocean air. And try not to worry about my mom dropping dead or missing Gary. (Whoops, there went the good mood! :pound:)
*giggles* I am incorrigible. At least I recognize that it is unhealthy how much I worry about things I cannot control.
The woodpecker is beautiful- I love the stripes on her head.

Rae- Yup, I know exactly how you feel. Every year I try to keep everything under control. And fail! But you are good that you are not concerned. I wish I could be more like that. How do you do it? I would love any advice you have.

Felis- the kitties must be so happy with everything sparkly! Floyd always eats the ribbons that I use to tie the stockings to the stairs- even when I put it where he can't reach, he still gets at it. I tried to pull it away from him the other day and he batted at me. Bad cat LOL
I had to look at the Metal Rat horoscopes- they look very promising. My wishes are all to have a positive year ahead for everyone.

xoxo!

Morning ladies... well it is good to be able to do this on my computer and not my phone!! The power was out for most of the day :mmph: Not sure what happened, but did hear that it was a transformer that went out and it took out the power to quite a large area! Hope no one was hurt because of it! Thank goodness the temps are pretty mild, so the house stayed pretty warm with the fireplace heating the couple of rooms that I was using. I ended up spending some time (when it got light enough) doing some painting on my turtle and making a couple of cards, so at least I kept busy! Today I need to get to the grocery store and get a few things for supper and breakfast tomorrow. DH is taking tomorrow off and we will do one final run to Costco to pick up a nice Ham for Christmas dinner. DH wants Ham and a Turkey, sheesh!! Oh well it will mean lots of left overs for us! I am hoping to get some shortbread done today also. The days are flying by soon it will be the New Year! Yikes!! How the heck did that happen??

Chris - Sounds like you have everything under control! Lots of things checked off your list, good for you!! Sorry you had the bad dream, but I suppose it would bother me also to think of your loved one perhaps making a mistake! I am sure Cait will do what is best for her! How amazing that she is being recommended for the scholarship! Her professors must have great confidence in her!! I will keep my fingers crossed that she gets it! You should be shouting from the roof tops that you are proud of your children!! Don't ever apologize for it LOL. Hope your day of cleaning goes well and that you get to spend more time watching Christmas movies with the family tonight!

Nancy - Sorry I did not do personals for you yesterday, but I think we cross posted and I just find it too frustrating to try to do posts with my phone! Had to laugh that you love hockey so much, but don't like the cold building!! I used to have to take my son to hockey practice in a rink that was not heated at all!! It was natural ice and man was it cold!! DH worked shift work a lot then, so I got to get up at 5am to take him to hockey practice :mmph: Oh well those days are far behind me now! I hope that you are keeping warm as you experience these cold days! How is Luther liking the colder temps? Having your hair done tomorrow will be nice, hope your hairdresser gives you a nice scalp massage!!

Jean - The photo of the woodpecker is great! Such a rare occurrence to actually see one so close! Lucky you! Hope you get your last two letters in the mail today! How nice to see your orchid starting to show life again! I can't for the life of me keep an orchid alive for very long, I am afraid I am not very good with indoor plants, I tend to neglect them LOL.

Rae - You are so busy with work these days, not sure how you find time to get everything else done! Hope that you have time to get your baking done! I miss all the goodies that I used to eat at Christmas, but my hips don't LOL.

Felis - Sounds like you are enjoying your kitties so much! I don't blame you for wanting to spend more time with them than with people! Especially at this time of year when things are so hectic and the crowds are so large in the stores etc. Hope that you are having a nice evening! Oh darn the link to the video is not working, maybe it will be up and running a bit later on??

Ok off to make the bed and do my other morning chores, then I am doing a bit of scrapping finally before I get to the grocery store today. Have a great Thursday everyone!

i actually slept in this AM...all the way until 6:30 AM! LOL Didn't get the visit with DD yesterday after all. She called back to say that the guy from the Window place called to come over and put film on a few of her windows. That should cut down on the heat coming through them. 2 of them are large with no blinds/covering as they are high up - one over the front door and one over the stair landing.

I decided to run some errands since she couldn't make it. Was tootling around when realized that my car was down to 1/8 of a tank of gas!!! I never let it get down that far! Then realized I needed to go to the bank for some money. Then had to stopped off to get the car tires aired up as they were low. Geeze - think my brain has been snoozing on me. Stopped by the bread store and saw that they are no longer using plastic bags - good thing that I always have my shopping bags with me. Our city is suppose to stop using the plastic bags this next year. I got some plastic bins for under the sink... now just have to get the mojo to get things put back under there. The foot held up pretty well but is aching a bit this morning so will be taking it easy.

Chris... go ahead and brag like a proud momma... what a great honor that Cail's professor put her in for a chance to get a scholarship!

Felis, yes.. long-johns are winter tights worn under pants. I have quite a few of them as they keep me warmer. I will also layer a turtle neck long-sleeve tee under shirts or sweaters. I keep the house temp set at 70 in the daytime. Glad you have found some things to perk up your spirits.

Oh, Trudy... hate when the power is off - especially during winter. Glad you had the fireplace to help keep you warm. I have a fireplace but it a gas sealed unit that needs power to ignite the gas. Glad you got to paint on your turtle and make some cards.

Jean, what a wonderful photo of the woodpecker! How wonderful your orchid is showing buds again.

Well, the house is finally warm enough for me to take my shower. Have a good day.

good morning - My Devils won and I was not there. My son was sick and could not go and we had the squall come through and I was not driving and I was surely not walking in the snow. But it is ok. I still have plenty of games left. But they did win and it was so funny Adam Henrique who Devils traded to Ducks scored as did Kyle Palmieri and Sami Vatanen who the Ducks traded to Devils scored against the Ducks. How strange. Got two more pages done and need to get them posted. This morning was cold. It was 15 and now it is just 20 degrees. But luckily the sun is shining and that makes me happy.

Chris your cruise sounds awesome. So glad that Scott will be coming too! And wow sorry about the bad dream. I am sure Cait is one smart girl. She will do what is right for her.

Trudy what a bummer to be without power for so long. Glad the fireplace was there to keep you warm. Hope you got some scrapping done and your shortbread.

Rae have fun baking when you can squeeze it in. But I know you can! You are the best at time management. As I continue to say I am loving the bird photos!

Jean love your photo of the woodpecker. Glad you got your newsletter got mailed. And so glad to hear the orchid is doing well - I think it is getting good vibes from you doing so well.

Felis how fun to have the kitties enjoying their new found glittery decorations!

Have a great day all!

Good morning ladies. I'll try to come back later when I have more time but need to get started at work. Lots to do. I'm almost done a challenge page but that'll probably be all I can do this wk. I just keep telling myself if I can make it to Xmas then my schedule with be much lighter for the rest of the month. I will sure need that break by then. It's my own fault, leaving so much to do before Xmas. I should know that things never go as planned LOL. But....like I told Chris....I don't stress about it, it will either get all done or or it won't...not the end of the world.

Chris - if I start to feel a bit panicked or anxious, I slow my breathing, take some deep breaths and clear my head. In a minute I feel better. Sounds so simple yet works for me. I just focus on my breathing for a minute, feel it filling my lungs and then letting it out slowly, roughly 8 seconds in, hold for a few seconds, and then 8 seconds out.

Ok, gotta get to work and see how much I can get done by lunch when I'll pop out for errands. Not going to see B this afternoon, too much to do but that's ok, she's going out with her caregiver and I'll see her lots over Xmas.

Have a great day everyone.

Got my shower done and dressed. Decided to tackle putting things under the sink. I had put 3 bins under there yesterday to see how they fit. Also put 2 boxes of dishwasher soap next to the bins... nice fit with some space in the back for extras of things. I ran the dishwasher last night for the 1st time since the disposal was installed. Open the cabinet doors about an hour ago and notice something shining in one of the empty bins.... yes - it was water! Thank heavens the bin was there and caught quite a bit of the water so none ran out onto the floor. Took the bins out and sopped up the water and dried off the shelf. The boxes of Dishwasher powder were wet on the bottom so set them upside down to let them dry. Called DD#1 to give her a heads-up on the leak. Told her I only run the dishwasher every 3-4 days depending on the load... so no hurry to have SiL come over until sometime this weekend. So glad I had held off putting stuff under there until after I run the DW!!!

Going to go put my foot up and read this afternoon.

Hello girls,
yep, I'm posting at 3AM, don't even ask me why!!
Just two more working days and big food shopping between them, once when survive this can be completely happy! My big plans for Christmas are movies at day time and scrap at night! I have not progressed with the 52 project at all, 10 more pages to do, one only wait for text, but still is too much. It's a shame, but I'll have to finish this at the next month. Ouch, work on this from 3 years! Next project definitely will be not weekly but monthly!

Which bring us to the post I made earlier. I don't know why link don't work. Is it blocked for all of you? Maybe it is some area stuff, I'm not sure how youtube work these days.
It's a song from my favorite band. I saw at other Thread that
Chris is said she needs music to "regain perspective". I use music to express my thoughts.
Of course I chose specifically this song totally innocent, because at the way I understand it it's about person who tried to escape from his old personality and bad habits. Am I right?!
So it's something we have been discussing over the last few days around the book and our attitude.
Anyway, this song is my cure for bad mood  , Chris!
Congrats for both of your kids, for Cait's scholarship nomination and for Scott's job at the Ecology center! Proud mom with reason! Oh, please, rumble us for things like that, we all needs more good news!

Trudy, sounds as you are satisfied day even in this so short day lights period! Sure hope no one was hurt because of this breakdown!

Kay, how bad about this water again! I can see your disappointment. At least as you said it's shows early and will fix it without other damages! Dress in layers is a key to happy winter mood! I use also knitted wool socks.

Nancy, smart decision, risk to drive at this weather not worth it! Hope your son get better fast!

Rae, interesting technique, I must try it too! Thanks for sharing! Good luck with the errands!

Felis, surprise! I just posted my week 50 from last year. Still missing 3 in October and after week 50, but maybe I'll finish it yet. Guess you will too, one of these days. This should be like Rae and Christmas worries...it'll get done when it gets done, not to stress over it. (Sounds good anyway). And I can't see the link either, so it maybe a location thing.

Anyway, Thursday was a nice day for us. It started in the teens but quickly got to the upper 20s and the sun shone. Sun makes such a difference. We did grocery shopping through Christmas dinner though I forgot I need more mushrooms as I'll use them three dinners. Tonight I made chili and we watched the movie Rocketman that I'd brought home from the library. It was pretty interesting, especially visually, but not nearly as good as the two big music movies last year, A Star Is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody. And thanks all for the nice comments on the woodpecker photo!

Chris, for sure brag on the kids as they sure deserve it. How super for Cait to have even the possibility of the scholarship and what the professors' support means. Scott much the same. However, C's being so smart is not insurance against getting back with B. She is such a rescuer that it can get in the way, among other things. But I'm sure hoping it really is just friends. But as you say, best not to try to influence her. It does seem your Christmas is developing better than you thought and you're getting family movie time.

Trudy, so glad your power is back and everything seems OK in that regard. Most of the rest of us would have been very cold without the power, so better it was you (with warmer temps) :tape: Painting and making cards must have made it less disruptive.

Kay, whoops, sure was a good thing you had the (empty) tubs in there to discover the problem. Hope it gets fixed easily and then you'll have a nice setup under there. The foot must have been better for all the errand running, but hope it didn't flare up any more once you put it up.

Nancy, hope son is OK now. Yes, much better to stay out of the stormy weather. I assume you watched the game on TV instead? I am loving your bird project pages, but you may have seen my surprise over the name of the NWR. I must be behind the times on that.

Rae, loving your attitude toward Christmas readiness. It has to be a healthy approach.
