Happy weekend everyone! It really feels like fall. I am so tempted to get decorating for Halloween, really! I have to go up in the attic to get down paper goods for the family party today and I am going to have to walk past Halloween stuff... must resist! Must resist!!!!

I overdid it yesterday and I hurt today. I was only going to do "light" cleaning, but I saw how many cobwebs and how much dust and crumbs under the stove..... and yeah-- by 4 pm, i was a mess. You would think that after all these years I would learn: Pace yourself, Chris.... nope, I just cannot do it. LOL

Cait had to get picked up from school too- her stomach was upset. She is on this one abx that is EVIL. I swear, I was on it for 6 months, maybe more, and I hated every dose. I thought she was on a 5 day on, 2 day off rotation.... oops.... it was 4 on/3 off. No wonder it was killing her stomach. I used to be so good about keeping their medication schedules organized and up to date, but after so many years, its too much and I have slacked off. Thankfully I know enough about the different meds/doses/timing that I didn't do anything harmful, but wow. I really have to get my head back in the game.

Enough about me- I am going to post this, refill the :tea: and come back for personals.

xxoxo!!!!!

I am back.. * rolls neck, cracks knuckles* Actually no- I didn't crack my knuckles, I cannot stand that sound. It really stinks b/c part of Gary's Lyme comes in the form of having to crack his ankles and feet over and over and it makes me *nuts.* However, if I roll my neck just right, it sounds like a bag of popcorn in the microwave. :p

(Do you think I am stalling to getting off of the computer so I don't have to finish cleaning my house? )

Hi Laurie, sounds like you did have a good say shopping. Was work better today than it was earlier this week? Frost! Ick! I heard some areas around here in NJ had frost warning, that's just crazy-talk. I do the same w/ my heat and I try to only turn it on from 5am to 7am while we are showering and getting dressed it the am. Its getting closer to time for my Anti terrorist/Terrorist hats to come out of summer storage. :D

Phyllis- what did you end up making for dinner?
Maureen-- you are a cooking goddess? Please help me find new recipes that my insanely picky kids will eat!

Clara- not only are we soul sisters- I think we married soul-brothers!!! So many things that you have said about D apply to Gary too. But the throwing stuff in a pile and not being able to find anything later. Ugh!! That must be the worst. Over the summer, Gary had someone interested in buying the motorcycle. He would have taken it, but Gary couldn't find the title- which according to him, I must have lost. He finally spends $60 to get a duplicate, and a few weeks later I found the original in the attic in a pile of his medicare papers.Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! When you are done, can you send "our" mom up here? I love my mom, but she is another Move the Pile of Papers type too.

How is your SIL's health, BTW? Is she taking any better care of herself? I hope that no news is good news.

Maureen- I couldn't tolerate fish oil, so I switched to Omega-3 instead, much easier on the stomach. Not sure if they will work for you, but I thought I would toss that out there.
The recipe sound yummy! I love spinach too. Could live on that stuff. I'll have to check out your blog too :)

Frani- oooooh what kind of soup did you make? I love soups for dinner in the winter.

Sally- hi darling!!! I found the pic of my fuzzy socks from my avi last year when I was searching for a coffee mug photo for the Anna Lift. I love me some fuzzy socks. And while 100*s is def. HOT, you know I would prefer that over this cold any day. Remember how my kids laughed at me in Coz when I was complaining how cold it was when is was "only" 80* hahah!!

Chris. would you believe that we had LEFTOVERS for dinner last night? i just got lazy. i bought a giant brisket a few days ago and had lots of that left over. so, instead of heading out to buy some chicken breasts for Maureens recipe, i took the Lazy Woman's Option. the option i always choose when i can....

and, Chris. do you find it's hard NOT to overdo it? i always do, with this thing i've got, because the line keeps moving around from day to day. one day i can rearrange the furniture, no prob. or minimum probs. a few days later i have trouble lifting the grocery bags. i just proceed on the assumption that i'm likely going to feel crappy no matter WHAT i do, so if something needs done, i just do it, whatever it is. it has to be hell for you to juggle all this with your family having troubles, too.

so far i have no idea what i'm doing today. somewhere in the back of my mind is the idea that i'm going to go through every stitch of clothing i own and get rid of half of it. i mean. does anyone REALLY need 20 pairs of jeans?

and, yes. Maureen IS a cooking goddess.

one of the few good things i make is this soup. it's good for these chilly days!

Ribollita

3T olive oil
2 onions, chopped
2 carrots, sliced
4 cloves garlic, crushed
2 celery stalks, finely sliced
1 fennell bulb, peeled and chopped (i omit this. i am suspicious of fennell)
2 (or more)zucchini, finely sliced
14 oz. can of crushed tomatoes
2T pesto (you MUST add this. it makes the soup.)
4 cups beef broth (m/l?)
14 oz can navy beans, drained
salt and pepper

heat oil in a large saucepan.add onions, carrots and celery. (and fennel, if you're using it.) fry slowly for 10 minutes. add zucchini, fry 2 minutes longer. add the crushed tomatoes, pesto, stock and beans. bring to a boil. lower heat, cover and simmer for 25-30 minutes until all vegetables are tender. season with salt and pepper.

i never do this step, but to do this up right, fry 1 lb. of young spinach in some oil until it wilts. put some crust bread in the soup bowl, top with the spinach, then ladle soup over it all. sprinkle with Parmesan cheese shavings.

brrr. Jeans, french terry shirt and socks today. Plus HOT tea! as much as I like these seasons, it's been a shock to the system. While we have a gas furnace, we also have a gas fireplace the lr and a gas Jotul in the kitchen. Our house is old - 1910 - and when we remodeled, a wall came out, thus losing a heating vent downstairs. The heating vents kind of suck to begin with but it is what it is. I was sorely tempted to turn the Jotul on last night but the pilot has not been lit and I let dh do that cause it's a real pita to lay on the floor in front of it and do it. Same with the lr.

I decided to go out last night and ended up seeing an old friend who just recently got chickens. He lives back in one of the few places round here where you could have such things. This is for you women who wonder about men, mostly, and their idea of order. There was not a room or place in his house that did not have clothes dropped or towels on the floor and scattered papers and LL Bean catalogs hither and yon. His washer and dryer are right at the front door and I suspect he gathers his stuff up periodically, does a load and dresses as he goes out! Did he ever say ...Excuse the mess or any such thing? Not at all! He doesn't think twice about it.

In addition to his new chickens, he wanted me to see his rugs. He's buying a lot of good oriental rugs, and I had to mentally shake my head and think...so incongruous. Some of the pictures and art on the wall are really good but hung in the ...oh here's a space, I can hang something there! God bless him! Sadly, I didn't get any fresh eggs cause the ladies are not thrilled with their laying boxes it appears. He also has a sign over the chicken shed, which was custom built and lovely!, that says GITMO. I said that's the reason they won't lay. You're calling them prisoners!!!! geesh...

Well I hope that gave y'all a laugh for the day. I am going to my...gasp...50th hs class reunion this weekend and there's a dinner tonight at one woman's house. (Catholic girls hs with very very liberal great nuns) It's hit me this week that I cannot see so well driving at night so I'll have to get a place to stay tonight. DC Beltway driving at night?? I think not.

Well other than booking me a room, I will be packing an overnight bag, and looking forward to seeing some women I haven't seen for 10 yrs. Tidy up the house, and see dh Sunday night.

Have a great weekend all!

Good morning ladies. I did not get back for personals...I'm lame. :) Anyway, I did get a lot done yesterday but all the flowing dust made my allergies flare up so I had to run into the ER last night to get a breathing treatment. Too bad I couldn't just go to the desk and say "Give me and inhaler" but those are the rules I guess. The ER on post is almost like an urgent care so it went pretty quick and smooth.

Today we are taking the kids to a science museum for their "Bug Fest" exhibit. That will be a lot of fun. Then tomorrow we are having my friend Andrea and her family over. Some of you know Andrea...she spends her days at TDC lately. Her husband is deploying again on Tuesday so we're having them over for dinner before he leaves. He's only been back for a year. I am thankful every day that my husband has a good hospital job that doesn't send him overseas anywhere. So many of my friends are husband far too often. It almost makes me feel guilty.

So, that's my world. I need to go get dressed and then wake up the mama...but I'll do a couple personals from today first.

Chris - Silly girl...over doing it. You're supposed to task that stuff out to the family too. Stinks that they feel yucky too. Hugs to Cait. That tummy stuff from abx doesn't sound fun. Enjoy your party this weekend. That is too funny about our husbands. It makes me laugh that you found it in the attic off in a weird out of the way spot. ugh!! BOYS!!!

Laurie - enjoy your scrap time. I am a bit jealous. I'd like to scrap a bit but don't see it happening.

Phyllis - I love leftovers for dinner...our only problem is that we rarely have enough to feed everyone because my husband eats it all. I did get some left over panang curry the other day that somehow he missed. It was amazing.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Chris, thanks for the meds suggestion. Unfortunately, these fish oil pills are prescriptions and I need to try them for 90 days. If I take them with food it seems ok, not great but ok.

Phylis, I WAS the cooking goddess - perhaps. Now I have to take time away from artsy stuff and cook. Cutting out most of the 'white' stuff has taken some of the fun away, though I do hope to get back to making bread, good whole wheaty stuff in October. I still do take pics of my food which is a carryover from my GardenWay forum days. I just can't eat like that anymore.

Morning lovely "O" ladies a :rain: one here today. I was lazy and did not get back to do personals yesterday, but I did manage to get some scrapping done, Hooray!! We are off to Victoria today to look for some new shoes to go with my new dress that I am wearing to a wedding next weekend. Then hubby is taking me for supper and to the movie theatre, yay for us!!! Finally a date night with my favorite guy!!

Chris - Hope your daughter's tummy feels better soon! Sorry you are also hurting today, but we are all the same and never really know how to pace ourselves, then we pay for it later!! I still am making all the wonderful soup recipes that you guys gave to me when my jaw was so sore, they are wonderful and will taste even better as the weather gets colder I am sure!! DH made me add ground beef to an Olive Garden Copycat recipe for Minestrone and man does that taste good!! He would make me add ground beef to everything I think LOL.

Laurie - sounds like you are going to be busy scrapping today, have fun!!

Phylis - twenty pairs of Jeans??? Really?? I would say keep them if they all fit! I keep having to buy new ones because someone keep shrinking mine

Maureen - Love the story of your friend!! I think that it would drive me nuts to see a place like that and I would jump right in and clean up ,redecorate, and hang his pictures properly, I am very Monica that way (Friends show) I hate clutter and mess!!

Clara - have fun at the Science Museum!! Sorry you were having breathing problems it must have been very scary!! That is sad that your friends hubby is getting deployed again so soon!! My son just got deployed to Italy, but he is a tech so he hopefully is not in any danger, my heart goes out to all of our brave men and women, it will be difficult to be away from the families for so long!! We are doing our best to keep in touch with our daughter-in-law (also military) and our two grandkids, we love facetime!!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!

Trudy - where in Italy is your son? We lived there for 3 years. How long does he have to be there? I think it sucks how long the Army has to leave for...and they always seem to be home for a year or less before they take off again. My kids and I pray for someone we know, every night. Right now we have 2 friends over there...but now it will be 3. Ugh!! I just hope my brother doesn't go over there again.
