hellooooo!!!
I am going to make this super quick. My hiking buddy, Stephanie, texted me a few minutes ago and asked me the best question ever. Instead of doing the 7-mile hike, how would I feel about doing a shorter one-- 4 miles? heck yeah! She has a bad headache and didn't feel up to the large group hike. We are meeting a little earlier so I need to get ready and be out of here in an hour.
This is much better for me as well. I am sure I could have done the 7 miles-- I realized that I'm averaging 4-5 miles when I am at work. Granted not the same elevation and at a slower pace but also carrying several bags of teaching supplies.
I had one of *those* days yesterday and this will help clear my head. My brother called about my parents (not doing good at all), my dr appt went as expected (waited an hour to see the dr and he put me on meds for osteoporosis and wants me to see a Rheumatologist to discuss IV osteo meds), BFF's finally got her biopsy results and it is cancerous. And Gary is taking Tindamax this week and that is always a difficult one.

Hopefully, I'll get some good scrapping photos today and Stephanie and I always chat nonstop. But I need to get dressed/breakfast and my backpack filled up. Since it's just the two of us (not guided by one of the SAR groups or Scott who is local SAR) I should bring my bigger first Aid kit, just in case....

have a fab day and I'll be back later or tomorrow to catch up!

Good Morning all!
Missed you all yesterday but after my drive and Costco run I was spent. I curled up on the cough with a blanket, book and a good stout beer and called it a day.

@faerywings Chris sounds like a great way to unwind and get all the. stress out. I like the idea of a shorter hike too. Allows you some recovery time to sit and relax.

Today is work. Just two months left. I really like my job and its easy but my body is telling me more and more that I am committed to too much stuff. Busy day followed by hurry up and out the door again is taking it toll.

I think we're officially in winter mode. Its in the 20's for temp. We have 1/4 inch of snow that didn't melt away. Roads are fun. I just hope the rain they are calling for this next week are wrong and ends up being snow. Rain from now till April is just nasty icy mess and we dont need that.

Off to get more coffee! Have a wonderful weekend.

Another lazy morning. Yep...slept in again. The good news is the coughing is getting less and the chest tightness is improving. Looks like the meds are helping!!! :yesss: Got 2 CP LO finished and uploaded yesterday.

Finished reading "The Women"... it really grabbed the heart and brought home the challenges she and other women who served in 'Nam faced. Tried reading another book but couldn't get into it.... gothic theme in real time .... just couldn't hook my interest. Guess I will go back to re-reading some of my favorites this weekend.

@AK_Tracy Glad you got your Costco run done... like your way of unwinding, too!! A book, a blanket, and couch is the perfect thing to do. SNOW!!! Guess winter has arrived for you. I wouldn't want rain on top of snow... ICE.... not a good combo.

@faerywings Glad your friend wanted to cut the hike shorter with just the 2 of you.

Wasn't that such a good book??? I was hooked from paragraph one. And oh I was so angry and sad and cried and oh what a great book!!! Worth loosing sleep to read late into the night.

Glad youre feeling better and the meds are working!!!
I did the same, Tracy.... angry, sad and cried... but so glad I read it. The story behind how it came to be (afterwards) is great. The time/years she spent researching 'how it was' is a lesson in dedication. :claphands2:

Trails Crew had our annual 5K/10K trail run this morning. Lots of fun, but chaos! When I agreed to be president I made a condition that I would not be responsible for this event - it's just more than I need to take on. So others are doing it (good!) but they aren't as organized as I am and there's always something missing. But they turn it into a fun time and we have music and pancakes and prizes and beer, and 200+ people running and walking on our trails, so I'm not complaining.

We have a lavender farm here, and they donated three huge leaf-collection size bags of bunches of lavender. When she opened the bag, the scent of lavender floated over the area and it was heavenly. She just wanted people to take them, so I brought a couple bunches home and mmm.....

Our 11 yo GD sprained her ankle and I got to see her tottering around in a big boot on our FaceTime session this afternoon. I hope she recovers quickly. Kids!

I think the rest of the weekend will be slow and quiet. Except for the big question tomorrow: when I call up the jury duty phone line will they say I have to come in, or can I just lounge around tomorrow? We'll just have to wait and see.

Good evening,

Hello all. I'm in the process of getting ready to go to the Halloween party. Ava just called me to see if I needed help with my hair or anything. She's such a sweetheart. I told her I have this, and Adrienne insists that I wear my hair down, so one of them has to deal with it when I get there. LOL. My hair is always in a messy bun. I decided to "channel" Beth Dutton. I'm wearing my fur vest, new boots with fur tops and my cowboy hat. I told Ava that they had to do something with my hair, but not until I go up there about 7. I want to braid it down one side, but that may or may not happen.

These people go "all out" and I can't wait to see everybody's costumes. Oh,"the girls", Lila and Marley will be here shortly and will stay with Daisy while I'm gone. Daisy is "sad sacking" already because she knows I'm going somewhere.

Chris, @faerywings hope your "shorter" hike went well, I'm sorry about your BFF
s biopsy and sorry that Gary isn't doing very well while he's on that medication.

Terri, @Terri M I'm glad you didn't have to manage the run, it sounds like a lot of work, but that lavender, ohhhhhhh Heavenly scent. Hope your GD gets along ok in her boot. Those are annoying, but way better than crutches.

Tracy @AK_Tracy glad you got your Costco run done - I know that's a huge job and glad you crashed on the couch afterwards.

Kay, glad your cough is letting up and that you're taking it easy. I need to read that book or listen to it - I don't "read" very much anymore, but love to listen to audio books while I scrap.

Hope I didn't miss anybody. I have about an hour before I have to leave and I still have to do my makeup - glad I don't have to do my hair. LOL

Hugs to ALL and XOXO.

Well back from Burger Bash at the club. We made and served free burgers/hot dogs with the fixings for free to all the hurricane victims here in our community...70 hamburgers and 50 hot dogs. Then after that I went for a swim with a bunch of the ladies. Water was so nice.

@faerywings --sorry your parents are not doing well. Nice to take a hike with your friends...I used to love to go hiking with friends, we used to do geocaching which was a fun extra for walk in the woods.

@BrightEyes I saw that you were going to the commissary so you much be retired military? nice perk to shot there and medical too.

@MariJ - so nice not to have to worry about fires.

@vickyday what fun scrapping vacation pics...I try to scrap mine so I remember the details. I hope your wrist and ribs heal quickly. Your chill out by the fire looks awesome. You are not missing anything by not having ice storms they can be pretty nasty and driving dangerous.

@taxed4ever Wow how wonderful to get all that family information. I hope you can scrap those memories of hers.

@mimes1 You are working allot so I am happy for you that you like it and are not stressed.

There is so much going on here I just cannot keep up with the comments.. I do read them but cannot find time to comment on every one.

Sunday will be finish up the yard work and grocery store, I need go get fixin's for stuffed mushroom to take to a friends dinner party tomorrow night.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend

The same sentiment lives here too Debby! Everyone says it's ok to do fly-by check ins...

Today was Trunk or Treat at Church, my first "whole church" event. It went very well, I learned some things, and will write down everything we did so we remember for next year. Mark did parking, and surprisingly his arm was very sore when it was all over so that's a little concerning. I realized today that I worked 6 days last week and 7 days this week. Things should quiet down a little bit now. Looking forward to a little down time.

The dogs have been rascals, Reesie is 100% fine after our little ER fiasco last week, and Gunner keeps either chewing up his suit, getting out of his suit, or peeing in his suit. His stitches looked pretty good, then in 5 minutes tonight he chewed them up. That thing is never going to heal. So tonight I ordered a THIRD suit for him, and that's in addition to the first suit fail that gave him the droopy drawers. He's in that one now while his suit dries, and he's all safety pinned up so it fits better. Dogs. You love them no matter what! But boy these two have given me a run this week.

Hope you all have had a good day!

Hi Debby, actually we have not had one drop of rain here in all of October, that's never happened before.
And, sadly right before this I read about a forest fire in the next town over from me, that's a bit scary. I don't remember that ever happening.
My friend is a volunteer fireman there, I'm waiting to hear how he's made out.

Hi everyone. I'm missing you all. I miss being here on the team but yet, it's silly b/c I'm so busy with everyday life, I don't have time for a lot of scrap time these days.

I went to my first Xmas craft fair here in Alberta and it was so much fun. It's great having a big group of new friends to hang out with and do things together. We are going to at least 4-5 more over the next 5 wks and have a ladies shopping day with a bus trip to a big mall I haven't been to yet. Then we have a bus trip to a little town east of Calgary where they put on 4-5 plays a year, we'll see the Xmas play and have lunch. We have two game tournaments next month too. This is besides the weekly games we play at the seniors club.

Remi is recovering from her CCL tear so time will tell if she will need surgery or not. So far so good but that could change at any time. For now she is doing well with the restrictions and has adapted very well to her new quieter schedule. We lots of short time walks around the neighborhood. We enjoyed our cruise along eastern Canada and I loved Boston.

I hope everyone is well. I'll be around when I can. BFN

OhMyGosh, Amy, you just mentioned Trunk or Treat. One of my favorite memories was when we took Asher, then a little one, to a Trunk or Treat at a church in town. What a fun, fun thing and I have so many great pictures from that event that i still use.

So, the dogs have been rascals, huh? Sounds about right.

Rae @bcgal00 good to see and hear from you.

I just got home from the Halloween party. It was a lot of fun but I'm glad it's over. The usual shenanigans - Braden and his GF were here - it's always nice to see both of them. Right after I got to the party, he kept calling me and I couldn't figure out why. I couldn't find my phone, but it was ringing in on my Apple watch. I finally answered him on my watch. He and his GF were down at my house, and he couldn't figure out where I was. They were inside my house playing with all three dogs. It's a circus around here, all the time. I told him I was at him mom's house. I had no idea they were coming to my house.

They did a "best costume" contest and "Shrek" won. There were some really cute costumes there. Ava and Drake were both "parts" of a unicorn. There was a womab=n there that they have all been trying to make a match with us - she's cray cray and I think I made a new friend. Her name is Sally. She's really funny and I'm sure we will get together soon.

Ava ended up coming down here and fixing my hair. She braided it in one braid on the side (like I wanted) but found some of my little Halloween lights and she wound that in my braid. I got SO many compliments on that. Even this guy who never talks told me he loved my "lit" braid. It was a fin night.

Good morning! I never got back here yesterday. I mean-- I got back to the O-- I *had* to upload my two color play pages but that was pretty much it, I wasn't able to pop back in here.
The hike was the perfect distance and difficulty and I told my friend that I was really glad she suggested the switch. It was 5.25 miles and I think those extra two miles would have done me in. This is what the waterfall looks like in a drought. There are still a few days left in October but it looks like this area is going to close out the month with not one day of measurable rain. It's sad to see.

1730027346714.png

After I got home and showered, washed and blew my hair out straight (that's an hour right there) I got the LOs uploaded and called my mom. They had to get some work done on the roof of the house in PA so they went up on Friday. Unfortunately, when they got there, they saw the mice got into *everything* including three in the toilet bowl. They were pretty upset by that and the last they either of them needed was to spend the day cleaning mouse poop everywhere. Plus my dad fell two more times and no one knows if it was just not paying attention because he was stressed or something else. It's really difficult seeing them deteriorate.

I did get some cuddle time with the rats and you know how that always cheers me up. I sent a few pics to Caitlyn and it seems like they are having fun. Scott sent Gary a picture of the cabin they decked it all out for Halloween, with lights and real pumpkins, plus an inflatable one too.

Since the last two days were out of my control, I have sooo much to catch up on. I already started my shopping order and I have to finish the lesson plans for the session that starts next week (Nov 5). That is way too wild... November. SMH! Next Sunday, DST ends. (boooooooo)

Have any of you taken Actonel or similar? That''s what the GP prescribed for the osteo and I was curious if you had any side effects from it. I took the pill this morning (And what a PITB- You have to take it on an empty stomach and can't eat or drink for 30 minutes afterward) and the list of side effects seems rough but that doesn't mean anything IRL. Just wondering if you had any experience or advice.

xoxo!

@AK_Tracy Curled up with a blanket, book, and beer sounds AH-MAY-ZING! Glad that you listened to your body (I am sure that it was *screaming* at you ) and got off your feet. I hope that the two months of work fly by.
Yikes, it is crazy that you already have snow sticking. I hope that it stays as snow and not ice. Even as much as I hate snow, ice is so much worse.

@BrightEyes That's a relief that the cough is easing a bit- the new meds must be helping. Whew!
Everyone who has read The Women raves about it. I have it on hold through Libby and I think it estimated the wait at 36 weeks when I put the hold on, no idea where it its at now. Probably 35 weeks :rotfl:

@Terri M Isn't this the truth???
When I agreed to be president I made a condition that I would not be responsible for this event - it's just more than I need to take on. So others are doing it (good!) but they aren't as organized as I am and there's always something missing.
It sounds like you handled it well and as long as everyone had a good time, that is what matters.
Ooooooh------ how in the world did you restrain yourself from not diving head-first into the bags of lavender???? I can't even imagine how wonderful that smelled. I had a gorgeous lavender plant in the small raised garden by my patio and you would catch the scent each time the dogs walked past it when it was in bloom. I was devastated when it didn't make it through one winter. I have a smaller plant but it's nowhere close to what that one was, in size and blooms.
Good luck with the jury duty and I hope GD gets around in that boot ok.

@Cherylndesigns I had to google Beth Dutton-- I think I am one of the few people who never saw Yellowstone ;)
I hope you got a ton of photos and had a great time at Adrienne's. (of course, you did!)

@BoatLady What a nice thing to do for the community. The burger bash sounds like a perfect pick-me-up.
Scott and I came across a geocache by accident once. It must be a lot of fun doing an actual search for them.
No need to reply to everyone-- that's the rules. No stress. (Ignore me :ignore1: when I stress, ok?? LOL)

See- @mimes1 Amy's got it! Listen to Amy!

Today was Trunk or Treat at Church, my first "whole church" event. It went very well, I learned some things, and will write down everything we did so we remember for next year.
That's so sweet, bet the kids' costumes were adorable. Smart to write everything down for next year.
Ugh, the dogs are really giving you a run for your money-- if only on buying more and more of the suits for Gunner. Gotta love the big doofuses through :lovey3:

We miss you on the CO Team too, but are always happy to see you pop in here!
A Christmas Fair already? :fingers in my ears* That's honestly really cool and smart. You will have all of your shopping done soon and everything will be unique. Plus-- it's while having fun with friends so win-win!
I'm glad that Remi is adjusting to the quieter life and really hope that surgery is not needed. Give all three pups some belly rubs from me!

Cheryl- how fab that Braden came home for the party!
LOVE the way Ava did your hair/braid. I hope that you have pics!!

Good Morning,
Quick in and out. Didn't even get in here yesterday. Been trying to rest my wrists this weekend. So not much scrapping, either. I did finish up a set of ATCs and a spread for our Alabama trip that I need to get posted. I worked on them in bits and pieces.
We finally got some rain last night. Looks like it cleared the trees quite a bit. And looks like we are going to get more today.
Gotta get ready for church.
Have a great day!

Yes, for sure! I was so amazed, my friend said it was on all the NY news stations. This morning they were saying it's 60% contained but to keep your windows closed. I can't believe it's that close to me - 5 min away and in the center of highways/stores that surround the "forest". I would expect it more by you with more woods, but not as much here except the South Mountain reservation. Apparently the winds were a big factor too.
Turns out my friend had to be at a dinner for a friend's brother who has health needs so when I talked to his wife he wasn't there but it was driving him nuts that he wasn't. I'm getting ready to text them, I'd bet he went up after the dinner.

Yes, my hubby was a retired Master Chief in the Navy. The medical/Pharmacy and commissary perks do help.

@Cherylndesigns Can't wait to see your photo as Beth Dutton with lights in your braid!!! How wonderful that Braden popped in unexpectedly.

I will be late checking tomorrow... have an early morning appointment to renew my driver's license as it expires on Tuesday! At least I remembered to get both handicap placards put in the car so I can get them renewed, too.

Well, maybe laundry since I'm out of clean undies. But we shall see. Might just go commando and call it good! :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh: Never gonna happen. So laundry today. Just one load. But otherwise, nothing. Maybe read another book. Maybe scrap. Maybe snack. Options are good. Trusty wool blanket at my side, and a good book or 100 and I'm set.

@AK_Tracy Tracy, you are funny. If there was ever an incentive to get laundry done, possibly having to go commando will do it. I had to laugh. It brought back something funny that happened with my mom. She lives with me, but every evening we go up the street (8 houses) to her house so she can use her own walk-in shower that is set up just for her with a seat and handheld shower head. It is the only bit of independence that she has and she enjoys it.

Well, one evening I forgot her clean underwear at my house. No worries—she had a long nightgown with a long robe over it and we have attached garages. She was fully covered and nobody would see her. Gotta tell you, that 93 year old was horrified that I wanted her to go commando.:rotfl:She did it and now she can actually laugh about it. She told everyone what I made her do.

@AK_Tracy @bitzee Our family commando story here is when one of our daughters dressed the other daughter for preschool graduation. She had on this cute mid calf length dress. They were both so excited to have done that themselves. At the ceremony, they paraded the kids in, shaped them into a horseshoe facing the audience and had them sit down on the floor. Well there was our daughter, front and center, sitting cross -legged on the floor, all commando for everyone to see. :eek3::thud::eek:o_O

OMG, that is too funny, better than Hollywood types who do it on purpose.

Ribs on the grill and a layout that crashed and burned. I wanted to get it done for Erin's pre-release, but it wasn't coming together. Time for supper.

Late hello all,

Today has been a lazy day - I took a nap this afternoon, which I rarely do and it felt so good. Then I went up to Adrienne's to pick up a couple of things that I had left up there. They had a "movie day" because they had two Halloween parties back to back. The party they went to Friday night was a benefit and they paid a ton for the tickets. It was for women and families that need help in our area. Great cause. I used to go to these very expensive auctions in Ft. Myers - they cost several hundred dollars to attend. I always went with my artist friend, who got two tickets. It was kind of the same thing that Adrienne and Roger went to Friday night.

so, then they had their big annual party last night. The pics are just starting to roll in - Adrienne was Marilyn Monroe and Roger was a gangster - they looked so awesome. Roger wore all black, with a white cummerbund and Adrienne even found him some black and white wing tip shoes. Here's a picture of me that Ava took and a picture of me and "Marilyn".

Chris @faerywings I hope you found out what the "spirit of Beth Dutton" was. I made the change last minute to go as "her" after I started looking at what I had, and the fur boots that I had just gotten from Amazon.

It was a very fun party and there were close to 50 people there. Two of our favorite guys weren't able to be there - one is a pilot for American Airlines and he was on call and the other one just didn't show up. They are usually the life of the party, so were missed.

:floorlaugh: :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh:Oh my this is the best!!!! Especially that she's 93!! What a hoot!
At the ceremony, they paraded the kids in, shaped them into a horseshoe facing the audience and had them sit down on the floor. Well there was our daughter, front and center, sitting cross -legged on the floor, all commando for everyone to see. :eek3::thud::eek:o_O
:floorlaugh::floorlaugh: As only little kids can do!!!! I think I would have died and melted into the floor.
You'll find this surprising, I love a good stout too. I think you found the perfect end to a tough day.
Founders!!! Love their stouts and the chocolate stout.
