Happy Weekend! We made it! LOL

Hope you all have some great plans.

I am working from home at some point today, and then hope to relax a bit. We'll see. Y'all know how hard it is for me to just sit and "be."

Caitlyn and her BFF made coffee cake for b-fast. They has a (non) sleep over- I had to get up at 2 am to tell them to get to sleep! And now, it is time to eat :)

Good morning girls!

Well...I was drooling over the thought of going to Cozumel...but I don't know it it's doable!! The tickets alone would be about $1000.00 for us...plus it's long plane trip....Dr may not let DH do it! because of the past blood clots. but mainly...not enough $$$....I just can't justify charging too much...when I know that DH could just decide anytime to retire (he is really wanting to retire badly!!).

Should be a quiet day for us....

Hope you all have a great day! and weekend!!

CHRIS....PLEASE let yourself relax!!...maybe if we don't do the Coz. the rest of us can plan something much smaller and RELAX together!!:)

Good morning ladies. It's cold here in Iowa. We had record lows last night. Supposed to get to 74 today...which is unheard of in July in Iowa. We have a baseball game at 7 tonight and I think we'll be in sweathirts. I love this kind of weather really but it's making me realize that summer is almost over.

They took my aunt to hospice last night...don't expect her to last the weekend...58 years old. So for those of you who are over 50...get the recommended screening for colon cancer.

Chris and Linda W, I so wish that we could meet up in Cozumel. Last year was my year to stay at home and I know that's hard. :-(

Chris, I hope that you do get some relaxation time in today. I don't really look forward to the sleepover stage. :)

Ok...I'm off to the gallery. I'm making my July post count THIS weekend.

Chris - ohhh yum Coffee cake. 2 AM...Yikes you must be exhausted (((hugs))) I hope you find a few moments to just be and center :)

Today DH & Nick are having a bonding day....they went swimming in the pool and now they are getting ready to go to the movies to see the Transformers2 movie. Too quiet here for me!! It's just one of those days when I feel like I am suppose to be doing something else and can't really go anything!! Maybe it's anticipation of my visitors coming back in the morning! I don't know!! I am trying to get DH to get out of the house and do something...he's not cooperating!! Grrrrr.....

Good 8 O'clock ladies,
We went car hunting this morning and then went to a b-day party.
My mom wants a lexus rx or a mercedes benz r530, I think hard to remember all the numbers.
and right now I'm trying to talk my dad into letting us go to the movies.

Goodnight lovely ladies

P.S. My little sis accidentally deleted every single one of my pics from my new camera. Oh well, I forgave her and it's in the past :)

hey all... about to head to bed, but wanted to pop in and say hello... my mom and sister came by for a bit on their way home from my aunt's house in Ohio... then we just hung out here... tomorrow I have to run to staples and pick up some much needed office supplies since there's no budget for that at my office... at least its tax deductible... and I'm gonna take either Will's or Piper's school supply list and get started on that...

now... I don't know what other schools make kids supply, but here's the combined list for both Will and Piper... 4 - 24 ct boxes of pencils, 1 bottle of white glue, 22 glue sticks, 2 - 24 ct boxes of crayons, 2 boxes of markers, 1 purple handled pair of friskars scissors, 5 boxes of Kleenex, 3 rolls of paper towels, 2 packs of loose leaf paper, 2 containers of baby wipes, 2 spiral notebooks, 2 boxes gallon size ziploc bags, 1 box qt size ziploc bags, 1 box snack size ziploc bags, 5 different composition notebooks, 5 folders, 1 ruler, pencil top erasers, rectangular pink eraser, 2 pens, highlighters, 2 bottles of hand sanitizer, and another pair of scissors...

my question is this: if each student brings in 4 boxes of 24 ct pencils estimating a class size of 25, what the heck is the class going to do with 2400 pencils? And while I am glad to donate when I can - why should I provide school supplies for children other than my own? this is my big pet peeve with the supply list... that I'm providing for other children... I really don't mind doing that if I've got extra... but I don't like being required to buy all this extra stuff when my children won't use a large majority of what's on the list...

okay sorry, didn't mean to get off on a tangent... was looking at the list and it just ticked me off LOL... I'm off to bed now!

Hi ladies!

I'm just checking in before bed time. We went to Ribfest here today. It was a good old time. Then we sat and watched Princess Bride and vegged out the rest of the night. I started looking for Halloween costumes. Something caught my eye and I saw that a lot of them are on sale right now. So I spent far too long looking at them. =)

I have lab hours tomorrow and 46 more things to grade. But I'm totally ignoring them. =) I'm awful.

Chris - Definitely take a minute or two to relax girl. =)
Linda W.- Sometimes winding down, or in between, can be the worst part of having visitors!
Linda S. - I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt. My uncle just had his colon removed before Christmas. It seems sorta crazy because he is so young in my mind. He's my uncle.... We're lucky that they caught it early enough to be able to do that. It seems to progress so quickly...that and ovarian. They both seem to develop fast.
Kat - Hope you enjoyed the scrapping!
ME - Hope the BBQ was good! I'm jealous about the humidity thing. =)
Dawn - I'm so sorry I missed out on the accident. I just went back and read it all. How awful. I hope your husband is hanging in there.

OK chicas. I'm going to read a bit before bed. I'll check in at some point tomorrow! =)

Cbear- Hi! Neato cars...

Sandra - I hear ya on the supplies. I know that each classroom does go through a crapton of pencils though (if you pardon the expression). I don't see it be too unfanthomable for a student to go through four boxes throughout the entire year. Especially when you factor in a) standardized tests (no. 2 please...) and b) the fact that most kids are never satisfied with how "sharp" their pencil is. However, I also would think that given the amount of pencils that disappear fromt the library, office, etc....the supply could reduce to probably three boxes per student... hee hee! I think the glue stick total is right on. Glue sticks don't last very long. The "purple handled fiskars scissor" seems a little over the top to me, as does the whole ziploc bags thing. Our school also provides paper towels and hand sanitizer most of the time. But we have sinks in the classroom and have made the hand sanitizer thing a priority too.
Five boxes of Kleenex I can understand, but I've never heard of having to provide baby wipes. I don't know that I totally get that one, unless it has to do with a project. After all, when you have that much hand sanitizer, a sink somewhere close by, cleaning sprays and clearly a lot of paper towels...why do you need the baby wipes? Oh well...just buy what you want and tell them to forget you providing the rest. =)

At our school, the list is a "suggestion". We can't make anyone provide those things. (I actually think that's a Nebraska state thing.) And the students who really can't afford all those things don't have to provide them.

Ok...now I'm really going to go read!

Sandra....WOW...that is crazy...Nick is starting Kindergarten and so far all I know is a box of tissues.

always chatty at the O!!
The school lists are unreal. The older they get the crazier the lists get too. One thing I learned when Ethan went into kindergarten is that some of the teachers will only ask for things every few years. So one year they will ask for notebooks to last them 2-3 years, then the next year they will ask for index cards or something, and so on. That way each person has to buy less different types of supplies. Your list sounds a lot like the lists I have had in the past. Last year the one thing that irritated me was that they requested a specific brand of pencils...not #2 but the exact brand. Everywhere was sold out and I spent a ton of time trying to find them. i think I finally threw in the towel and didn't send in pencils. Purple handled scissors? that seems a bit strange. Good luck with t he school shopping. I don't have to do ours yet. I have to wait until they announce Ethan's teacher for next year and all that. Of course every class is different. i remember the days where we didn't get the lists until after school started when all the sales were done. My mom hated that.

So, today has been an interesting day. I had to get Ethan all packed up for his trip to Florida. Packing for such a different climate is hard. I think I did okay. It is just weird that the things I would send him with around here are so much different. We had to go and buy a few more things this afternoon and then he had everything he needed. I got him all his spending money and then broke it up into days so that he only gets a little bit at a time instead of just a big lump sum.

So, after we did our shopping we went to go see dh at the hospital where he works one weekend a month. I wanted to make sure Ethan got to see him before he left. when he works that weekend he doesn't have set hours...it is based on patient load and he had a lot of patients to do today when he got in. For some reason Derek only gets sick when he has to work. After staying home with Addie he is now got the flu. this is the 3-4 time he has gotten the flu when he's been working. It stinks. He can't really get anyone to cover for him so he has to wear a mask, wash his hands twice as much as he already does, use extra purell...plus feel like crap. It stinks. Wearing a mask when you aren't feeling good really is not fun...but you have to do what you have to do. I hate wearing a mask. I can't wear my glasses when I wear a mask, they fog up. that is one of the best things about working in a clinic...I don't get mrsa patients. mrsa itself isn't horrible to deal with but when it is someone in the icu it is just hard. They are hard to move and get set up plus they feel like crap so thay can't generally help much, if at all. mrsa is just not fun for the patients or the people working around them...WOW!! That was quite the random tangent!!

So, my whole point was dh is sick and now i am downstairs trying to avoid him. I'm debating where to sleep...in bed with him? maybe i could sleep upside down? or in ethan's bed...we have a guest room but we are getting ready for a garage sale in a couple of weeks so that isn't going to work out so well since a lot of stuff is being stored there right now.

Well, I am off. I will try and stop in tomorrow. Ciao ladies!!

Good morning all. We spent two hours sleeping in the tent last night. The weather was a bit chilly and the ground was hard. I woke the kids up at 12:30 and we continued the campout downstairs!

Got my tickets to Cozumel booked. To get the free tickets we are flying into Cancun on Wednesday. Leave Des Moines at 8:20 in the morning and spend most of the day sitting in the Miami airport. We get to Cancun at 7:20. I think we'll spend that night in Cancun and head to Cozumel on Thursday. I'm so excited...and so are the kids.

Oh Sandra, I know about the school supply thing. This year, I'm just paying $50 and that's supposed to cover both Sydney and Shaun for the year. The list was so specific and so long that I just didn't think that I could stand the shopping.

Hi everyone. I am here!
I had a quiet weekend, but that is kind of nice. We invited my IL's up for dinner tonight, but they weren't able to make it.
I pretty much bummed around, did some housework some computer stuff. More yard work-trying to weed out my way overgrown back yard.

Linda S- so sorry to hear about your aunt, I hope she spends her days in relative peace.

Clara- how did Ethan do getting off? Hope he has a fun trip!

Linda W-how is C- Man feeling?

ME- did you have a nice BBQ?

Hi Dawn!

Sandra- hope all is good with you- I hear ya on the supplies lists, it does get crazy.

I have to get going again, I really should be on the computer- I just logged on to search out grocery coupons for my shopping tomorrow

Quick run through from me...story of my weekend, LOL. I'll just say I am soooo happy not to have to do all the school shopping anymore, except the clothes, that's always fun!

I hope everyone had a fab weekend :). I ordered satellite internet today, I can't wait for it!!!!! Got sunburned yesterday at our bike rally but it was a blast!

Love you all!!!!

Holy Cow! That's an unbelieveable list of school supplies! I can't believe the quantities of stuff. Sounds like they've got some health concious/scared people asking for five boxes of tissues, rolls of paper towels, hand sanitizer and baby wipes. Our school supply lists here are pretty slim, notebooks, pens, paper, pencils, and a jump drive. Hope you didn't have to spend a fortune!

Happy weekend O's! Let's see, on Friday Jenna and I went to see Harry Potter - it was fabulou! I was really hoping for a preview of the next twilight movie, but no such luck. Saturday we worked on the house, Mr. Wonderful spent several hours fixing the roof so I weeded perennial and annual flower beds while keeping an eye on him up there. Today we hooked up the sprayer to the tractor and he sprayed bugs. We are having a plague of grasshoppers this year! We also made another trip to our favorite home improvement store! Tomorrow we will mix and pour more cement and see if we can finally get the basement stairs built!
I'll get some pictures of the garden and get them posted, promise!
Linda S. - so sorry to hear about your aunt. I pray that her days are peaceful and that she is surrounded by those she loves. A colleague of mine battled colon cancer three years ago. He was simply amazing - healthiest sick person I've ever known. It was quite a wake up call for all of our staff, he's the last one you'd ever consider getting sick!
Happy weekend everyone! Hope it was fabulous!
